Yep, most modern hip hop is just awful. No two ways about it.

Well... OCR doesn't make much money from ads. Basically only enough to pay for things like shirt manufacturing and hosting. If anything, site staff, especially Dave, lose money by running the site (and certainly lose time.) It would have been nice to be paid for something like this, but consider that most of the music was written beforehand for fun anyway, and we didn't technically have the rights to do it. We ended up with AAA credits and the pride of being on an awesome game.

OverClocked ReMix Artists on OurStage Need Your Support (FINALS)
zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Nice job guys! Five OCReMixers and six songs made it into the semifinals. The top tracks from each category will win $100 and move on to the finals for a shot at $5,000... your continued support is GREATLY appreciated. Just think of all the free ReMixes we've created over the years. Every vote really does count. Also, in the semis, there are only 45 rounds per category, meaning it is much easier to vote now than it was before. -
OCR01784 - Street Fighter II "Clamato Fever"
zircon replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh man, this one is just ridiculous. I heard the WIP awhile back, and I repeated it about 100 times. Then, I heard it in game and it blew me away just as much. Such a kickass tune. Thanks guys!! -
Saying more people play games than sports doesn't mean anything... completely useless statistic. Far more people play video games in the U.S. than those who play football, but that doesn't mean that people in general here don't get more pumped up about the Super Bowl than, say, the latest Halo game. Not that many people play sports past high school, in ANY country, whereas video games are a leisure activity like reading books.

Even hitting robots on the head is tricky, they are often pretty heavily armored so you don't end up doing much damage. Ultimately, Pulse Grenades do the trick a lot better. I don't have much of a problem with Talon mercs... then again I have the Rifle accuracy boost for VATS as well as the Sniper perk. The Combat Shotgun really does the job at medium or shorter ranges, killing almost anything in a few shots. So far I have 22 hours logged, I'm on the branch of the main quest where I have to search holotapes, and I'm level 13. This game is very deep.

OverClocked ReMix Artists on OurStage Need Your Support (FINALS)

With 24 hours left in the quarterfinals, a bunch of our tracks are really doing well. However, the following still need some love. If you like 'em, take a listen and cast some votes: * "Labyrinth" by zircon in Ambient * "Air" by Beatdrop in Techno * "Arigato" by Jewbei in Club/Dance * "Brushless Motor" by Xerol in Experimental Remember, we just need to be in the top 10 to pass the quarters and into the semifinals. Anything you can do to help is appreciated! -
No, I haven't turned into a spambot. The eSoundz group buy is over, but you can still get a killer deal on software there! For $99, you get: * SampleTank 2.5 L: A multitimbral VST instrument with a 2.5gb library of all around sounds, used by ReMixers like djpretzel and Big Giant Circles. Very cool plugin, normally costs at least $99 by itself. I have this myself and it's wonderful. Lots of great drums, keyboards, basses, guitars, and other highly usable sounds. * Your choice of Your choice of AmpliTube DUO, Ampeg SVX UNO or the new T-Racks 3 EQ. The first two are guitar amp/cab simulators and bass amp/cab simulators, respectively, and the last is a highly detailed vintage EQ effect for mastering. * Your choice of: Miroslav Philharmonik Classik Edition - Solid orchestral library based on the "Miroslav" collection which has been used all over the world for over 10 years. T-RackS 3 Standard - Plugin mastering suite. This has been my mastering tool for years, and is used by many other ReMixers as well. Both of these are worth $99 alone, so $99 for several plugins is just amazing. What are you waiting for? http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=169 If you buy, please put in "Andrew Aversa" or username "zircon" for who referred you

OverClocked ReMix Artists on OurStage Need Your Support (FINALS)
zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Quarter finals start in the last week of the month. We usually have at least a few tracks there. The top 50% of tracks from the quarters move on to the semifinals, which are two days. The top 10% of those go on to the finals, which are just 24 hours. -
Hello and welcome back to the OverClocked ReMix on OurStage thread! Don't know what OurStage is? Skip to the FAQ a little lower down in this post. November 28th: Semifinals begin! Thanks to YOUR support for these great songs, we've managed to enter six into the semifinals, which will last for all of the 28th and 29th. Keep up the good work and we could get a record FIVE artists into the finals, with a shot at $5,000. Who wouldn't want that? * Audix with "Super Wonderful (Audix Remix)" in Electronic/Electro-Pop * Beatdrop with "Air" in Techno * Jillian Goldin with "What Child Is This" in Holiday/Seasonal * Skrypnyk with "Medium 6" in Ambient/Chill * Skrypnyk with "Untitled" in Techno * zircon w/ Jillian Goldin, "Breathing You In" in Club/Dance FAQ What is OurStage? A monthly song contest with tens of thousands of entries and dozens of genres. Anyone can enter for free - if you're an artist, you should too! Most of each month is spent determining the top 20 songs in any given category. In the last seven days of the month, only the top songs remain. The quarterfinals contain the top 20 songs of each genre, while the semifinals cut it down to the top 10 in each, to selet the #1 song in each genre. The winners of the semifinals all receive a $100 prize. During the finals (on the last day of the month), the winners from the semifinals go on to compete against each other for a $5,000 grand prize. Artists from OCR have been successful on OurStage so far, due in part to the assistance of people like you! Both Jill Goldin (pixietricks) and sgx have won the grand prize. How can I help? First, register an account at www.OurStage.com - it's free and takes less than a minute. Then, click "Judge" and navigate to a category where an OC ReMixer is competing. You can see the list of songs, artists, and categories we are competing in earlier in this very post. You will be presented with a pair of songs. You cannot choose which songs to vote on, as the system is randomized. Listen to at least 15 seconds of each song, and then select which song you like more, and by how much. When you vote favorably for a song, you encourage that song to move up in the rankings. NOTE: Once you have listened to at least 15 seconds of any given song, you never have to listen to that song again for the remainder of the round (ie. quarterfinals). This will save you time when you want to vote quickly in hundreds of rounds. Anything else I should know? Please do not cheat to support OCR artists. Do not create alt accounts or use any kind of automated scripts. Do not simply vote against popular song ("voting down") to help us. No one in the running for the grand prize wants an illegitimate victory. If you don't want to contribute your time or support the ReMixers listed because you don't enjoy their music, please do not feel any pressure to. OCR's involvement on OurStage is unofficial as it is simply individual ReMixers. What's in it for me? OurStage is a great place to discover new music. I personally have found a bunch of great artists there, and a ton of great songs. Plus, you get a sense of satisfaction knowing that you helped ReMixers who have put in countless hours of time into this community in the form of free ReMixes.

HD Remix soundtrack: What files/encoding quality do you want?
zircon replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
If we didn't care about the most popular opinion we wouldn't have made the poll. We would have just made a decision ourselves without consulting anyone. Great way to run a community-based site, eh? My own vote was the 192kbps MP3. Simple and to the point. -
HD Remix soundtrack: What files/encoding quality do you want?
zircon replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
Well, lossless fans are certainly the most vocal, by far, but the poll results really aren't reflecting that opinion. I also have to agree with BGC that if we did ABX tests, I'd wager that hardly anybody could discern between a high bitrate MP3 (eg. 192) and WAV, or even 192 vs. 256. -
HD Remix soundtrack: What files/encoding quality do you want?
zircon replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
Gollgagh; So include a torrent of over 40 RAR files? Yeah, that's not annoying at all! Prophet, there is no reason to create separate torrents. Any torrent program will allow you to select or deselect files that you want. So, if you don't want lossless, just deselect the lossless files... easy as that. -
HD Remix soundtrack: What files/encoding quality do you want?
zircon replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
The problem with compressing your files, Dhsu & soc, is that if people want to only download SOME of the files they can't choose which they want and which they don't. That was a big plus of the VotL torrent. -
HD Remix soundtrack: What files/encoding quality do you want?
zircon replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough; I still think it's not worthwhile. I disagree that most people who want lossless know about FLAC, as my guess is the average person downloading lossless is going to be doing so to burn it to a CD, not to stick it on an iPod or just listen on their computer. Keep in mind the people that actually register on these forums and talk about it are not exactly representative of the entire population, especially considering how we have about 1000x more site visitors than active forum members. Anyway, I don't really see the point of lossless for computer listening anyway since I can guarantee you in a blind listening test, most people can't tell the difference between 192kbs and lossless on a decent system, much less your average computer speaker/headphone/iPod setup -

VotL didn't use FLAC because I didn't see the point. It's not a widely supported format. Does Winamp even support it out of the box? I'm not 100% of that. Not all CD burning apps do to my knowledge either, so you'd have to convert to WAV before doing that. And, my guess is that most people downloading these albums in lossless will be putting it on a CD, not just loading it up on their computer. VotL's WAV format worked quite well IMO since we had the tagged MP3s alongside it. -
Philly People? NorthEast People? See The OneUps?

Well, I had to leave a little early because my ride was leaving, but I caught at least 8 songs of the set and it was frickin' AWESOME. I really wish I could have stayed. Probably the best live show I've ever seen... impeccable performances, improv, mixing, volume. Not even kidding. You guys rock. -
Xbox 360!!!

Actually you can start it directly by going to the National Archives and meeting Sydney there. You don't have to go to Rivet at all.

Soundtracks for a game, and contracts, etc.
zircon replied to underthesun's topic in General Discussion
There aren't any rules or laws against discussing fees. Also, with indie games, there's no standardized procedure for whether to do onetime sync licenses or a royalty-based system... or both. Though, it is generally a little difficult tracking exact sales so it's usually less of a hassle to just pay up front. Alternatively, a milestone system could be used. EG. $50 for every 1000 sales reached. -
Looking for a new, preferably smaller form factor (cube, server rack, slim tower) machine as a sample farm. What kinda price can you get me; * 2.4ghz quad core, minimum (45nm preferred, eg. Q9550, but give me a range of prices vs. Q6600, preferably) * 8gb RAM - DDR2 * 500gb hard drive, 640gb is OK if it's only marginally more expensive * Don't care about video at all, but no integrated video * No audio card needed * MOBO needs to support processor NATIVELY!!! With no bios update. Also, needs gigabit lan. * No OS needed, I'll use Windows XP 64bit
