  1. http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/the-new-52/ This Wednesday, DC Comics is starting a line-wide refresh/relaunch/reboot of their entire superhero line. Every single issue coming out in the month of September is a #1 issue; they're renumbering long running books like Action and Detective, and they're launching new books like Blackhawks and Static Shock. If you've ever been interested in reading comics by DC, this is basically the most perfect time to start reading. Every series is being written with "new readers" in mind; this entire relaunch is designed to get more people reading comics and to expand the market. Some books are getting major overhauls (Superman titles are being changed quite a bit) while other books are basically continuing from where the pre-September stuff left off (Batman, Green Lantern). But the basic idea is that all books are accessible for newbies. Another thing DC is doing is publishing every book digitally on the same day the print version comes out. So if you don't want to buy comics at the store, you can get digital versions to read online (also on iPad and Android tablets). Anyone gonna be jumping in? Justice League #1 drops this Wednesday. I already read a ton of DC books every month, so I'll be grabbing a lot of these books.
  2. Uh, the melody comes in around 1:50. What remix are you listening to? And there is way more to the Hyrule Castle theme than just the melody; specifically the instantly recognizable syncopated brass line that AeroZ adapts to great effect in this mix. There are many ways to approach and arrange a piece of music; adapting the non-melodic elements is one way of doing that. Stevie Wonder is "early rock 'n roll?" Are you accusing Elvis and Stevie Wonder of not writing strong melodies? Have you ever even heard a song by either of those artists? It seems to me that you have no idea what you're talking about. If you want to post a review in the review threads, that's great. If you want to leave a constructive review, that's fine. But if you're going to sit here and get on a soapbox and spout ill-informed nonsense about some hypothetical pervasive decline of melody in modern music, you can keep it to yourself.
  3. Here's another fun thing to try. Every time you get killed, switch to the class that killed you!
  4. Bumping this. Here's another one: don't force me to watch long, slow scrolling, movie-style credits. Credits in movies are like that because you have to put them somewhere. When I beat a game, don't force me to sit through credits. Put the credits in a menu option on the title screen or in the options screen.
  5. Sounds like there's a bandpass filter over the whole mix. I kept waiting for things to open up, but this mix sounds so muffled. Your samples also sound really dry, particularly the string and piano stuff; it makes everything sound really weak, like a toy synthesizer. The synthier breakdown around 4 minutes is a nice change of pace though. Arrangement isn't too bad, but I think it's pretty repetitive. Not a bad piece but I think it needs some work. NO (resub)
  6. Yeeaaaah this is chill bro. I love it. It's got a really sweet, laid back vibe to it. Rhodes and piano really do it for me. Nice flute in the second half. SUPER COOL! YES
  7. You guys think way too much about this crap.
  8. Yeah he's a brilliant writer but Ice and Fire just isn't his style.
  9. What's wrong with that? It's the official turntable room that we advertise on Facebook and Twitter, so I put it in the one turntable.fm thread on the forums, so that people know to go to the official one. It's not like I sneakily changed the URL Will put in his post. My edit is in bright red letters so people know it's me talking and not Will. Stop getting pissy about it. Stop acting like it's some kind of fucking competition. We want to use 'ocremix' because—and I've said this before on IRC like a million times already—all of our other external website presences (twitter, facebook, youtube) use the same thing: twitter.com/ocremix, facebook.com/ocremix, youtube.com/ocremix. It's easier for people to remember and go to if they can just type ocremix.
  10. Sanderson wouldn't be a good fit for Ice and Fire.
  11. Not necessarily! Sometimes a mix gets subbed at a lower bitrate to fit into OCR's filesize guidelines, whereas album encodes are possibly higher. If you specify that you want the album version used, then we can make the mp3 ourselves and use that.
  12. Don't sent Emunator a wave file, he isn't a judge. If you want to send in a correction, contact a member of the judges panel. Don't send a wave file either, send an MP3.
  13. Methinks you're reading the wrong books. xD
  14. Caught episode 4. WOW! The music in this show is great!
  15. It's probably not necessary to post about a new remix being posted to OC ReMix on the OC ReMix forums. xD
  16. Ha! This is really fun. Really nice all around. Guitars are spot on. I don't mind the organ at all. Great!!! YES
  17. Strings get pretty mechanical, especially the high marcato stuff; not terrible, just noting it. Overall though nice arrangement. Nice development throughout; I particularly like the percussion around the second half and the string embellishments. Very nice atmosphere. YES
  18. This mix is dying in reverb. Fantastic percussion, but seriously, it gets overwhelming because of how much residual noise is just floating around. Gotta go back and do some serious work on balancing and mixing. NO, resub
  19. Don't really see "genre-adaptation" as a bad thing. I think it's great. A great example of some more long-form electronic dance stuff. It's not about the melodies going measure to measure, it's more about the texture of the track and how it shifts and changes. Great soundscape, perfect take on the source. Really solid. I like it! The only problem is that at the end during the subdued outro there's some clipping or clicking or distortion. Starts at around 6 minutes. YES (conditional), need a fix on those clicks at the end (I contacted him about a fix, waiting for PM) Fixed version is fixed. YES
  20. Kind of plateaus around the middle. Pretty nice sound, but there's not a lot of energy. Just sort of ends up plodding along after a while. That clap sound isn't really helping either; sounds really exposed and dry and outside of the rest of the piece. Around 2:20 things start getting mushy, with a lot of different parts layered over each other. Filtering out is a pretty cheesy ending, especially when it happens so quickly; if you're gonna vamp for an outro, it needs to be longer. The problem is that this song is basically all just vamp, which is not surprising considering that's all the stage select musics really are in Mega Man games. I think you need more variation in your piece, and you need to pay closer attention to how your elements are balanced. Not a bad start, but needs work. NO
