PRC91: Once Upon a Time in a Chasm (Cave Story) [Results]
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
There is a point in that there is little to no front page support. But seriously, what can be done about that? The least that can be done is if people do their part and start advertising the competition and whatnot. Even if that is a contributing factor, that didn't stop PRC88's prowess and end up with eight entries in total. I still think it depends on the strength of the source rather than the general exposure, though some good advertising backup could be of some benefit or other. Man, there are times like this when I miss Nineko. -
The remixing stage is over. The voting stage has begun! To vote, you send me a PM and in that PM you rank all remixes from first to third. Contestants don't need to place their own entries as they will automatically get a first place vote. The vote of the winner of PRC90 (myself) has a vote that counts for double. You have until Tuesday, April 10th at 5PM EST to cast your vote. The winner will get to choose the source material for PRC92! ZIP Archive Chavous - Spelunking Chickenwarlord - Fried Circuits Xela - Do the Robot! The People's Remix Competition 91 PRCv4-13 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! PRC90 kept the string of quiet turnouts, resulting in myself having to choose another source tune. What PRC needs at this rate is something that can help tow in a wider and more familiar audience as well as the potential of the source material. In that case, we are going back to PC territory, though not in the usual commercial sense. We're going for what is arguably the best freeware game ever made! I've seen in the past year or so that this game gained quite a lot of reputation on the remix front, what with an entire remix project dedicated to it and the inclusion of two arranegments from that game on OCR. Taking the experience from those into account, it's fair to see how far we can go with the source music as provided by this title. The score, among various other aspects, have been tweaked and finalised by Pixel over the past five years to create the game that we see today. On top of that, those that seem to come around to playing it have often reacted very positively to the end result. We can also take into consideration that the aforementioned remix project didn't quite cover every song in the game, and there were a few potential ones that I would have liked to see covered. This one, being played in the Egg Corridor stage (how appopriate for Easter!), is one of the more simplistic numbers that I thought could have got some instant coverage, with some strong melodic material and a justifiable length to make this more than appropriate for at least the remix project. Happy mixing! Cave Story - Mischievous Robot MIDI | MP3 I don't even know how to end this blurb... happy nine days left of giving up for Lent? GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. There is no limit on entry format or file size, but length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed. Entries must be posted in this thread by NEXT SATURDAY, April 7th at 4:59am Eastern US Time. Alternatively, you can also email your submissions over to submission@doulifee.com, though it would also help if you put forward a reminder in the thread. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted. The winner of the previous contest may not enter an eligible mix, but his/her vote will count double. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. Doulifée's PRC Archives! PRC90: Haven't I seen this jazz before? (Deja Vu) [Results]
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
The voting stage is over! And now, let's move onto the final results. Total number of mixes - 3 Total number of votes - 8 Highest possible score - 24 Anorak and Sir Nuts have both settled for the runner-up spot with 14 points each. And the winner of PRC90 is Rexy with 22 points! This competition was pretty quiet o_O() but still, it would be nice if we can get a little bit more promotion. Though I'm worried if my posts could be ignored if I clutter the main Community forums. Either way, I have a firm idea for a source tune for this coming Friday, so get ready for it. See you there, people -

Still at least it's better than nothing. Do you want it to be shown as a voteable entry though? I just want to make sure before we jump ahead. Nonetheless I got an entry down. I wasn't planning on entering due to having a lot of stuff to do by Monday morning, but never mind that. -

Well, this is getting tedious. We have eight hours left and not a single entry. I say we get to push people as much as possible but other than that, odds are we might be heading for time extension territory again. -
OCRA-0008 - Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Project Chaos
Rexy replied to SnappleMan's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Both aspects can be true - I can sneak in other themes at times, and I have a passion for Spyro the Dragon. However, the intro is actually referencing to Sonic 3's title music. Though, I do see where he's coming from with the rhodes piano and whatnot; I do see the uncanny similarity in musical style. Ragnor, your commentary is very well detailed; thank you for taking the time to express your opinions -

Star Fox 64 was our choice of game for PRC89, but not even the entries were just as quantified (is that a word?) as the amount of times the phrase "Do a Barrel Roll" was exclaimed in the game. Nonetheless, Villainelle pulled through as the competition's winner with her first foray into FL; hopefully we'll see her keep using whatever tools she has to polish up her skills in the coming months. For PRC90, we're heading all the way to the mid 1980s via a game that had its origins on the Apple Macintosh and later transferred to the NES several years later. PRC89: How many barrel rolls have YOU done today? [Results]
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
A first place vote has as many points as there are entries. So if there's six entries competing against one another, a first place vote is worth six points. Likewise, in the case of this PRC, first place was worth three points because there were three entries. -

Okay, it's results time. Fingers crossed over who managed to escape from Fortuna alive... Total number of mixes - 3 Total number of votes - 11 Highest possible score - 33 munchi had to settle for third place with 17 points. Xela made a sweep into second place with 23 points. And the winner of PRC89 is Villainelle with 28 points! Nice job, Leah! You've made some good leaps and bounds across the community in the past two months, and I hope to see it continue as your portfolio continues to expand. Anyway, PRC90 has you picking the source tune, so when you've made your choice, please send it over to me via PM. Thank you all very much, and I should see you all again this Friday. -

The People's Remix Competition 89 PRCv4-11 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! Heathens! PRC starts early! Actually, I'm going to be hanging around Manchester for this afternoon, and odds are I might not return until the early hours of the morning. Either way, let's get to business. PRC88 had a very quantitive turnout thanks to the use of some Lunar coverage. And in spite of the tight vote, you guys wanted me to pick another source tune. I've had so many thoughts in mind, yet in the end, it all came down to this. We need more kemonobitos flying spaceships, right? I didn't actually start actively playing Nintendo 64 videogames until last summer, when I went through a fair selection of titles and came to see how they shaped up. Yet it's this title that stuck out to me like a sore thumb - it may be simple to the point that much of the game is flying from point A to point B but the diversity in the way you get there thanks to the branching paths made it all worthwhile. I also really like the music score in spite of djpretzel openly criticising the sound chip (see his description for V to the X Power) - technology aside, I thoguht much of it was well written and emphasised well enough for the respective areas that we're in. It may have been a radical departure from the original title's rock/orchestra blends but I still thought it worked. I chose this song because it was shown to be one of the more easily identifiable tracks in the score as well as what can be seen to be a more frequent reoccurance than most themes emphasized in the series to date. It also has that kind of Spanish combat feel to it, which seems good enough for me. I'm sure there's plenty of room for interpretation, so I hope to see some good stuff come out of this Star Fox 64 - Star Wolf Battle Theme MIDI | MP3 | USF (library) I hope this goes down well, and I hope I come out of Manchester alive and well. But enough thoughts about the day ahead... GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. Just out of question Andy, why did you remove your criticisms in your previous post? Music is about making us grow, right?

And there was me thinking that the Forbidden Donut would be next I know how tight it was, and peoples' thoughts seem to differ a heck of a lot. Nonetheless, I thought really well of many of these entries, more notably yours and Andy's squabbling hard personally.

Mmmmmm... popcorn. </Homer Simpson> ahem. TIME UP!! And now it's time to present the scores. Are you with me? Total number of voters - 11 Total number of mixes - 8 Highest Possible Score - 88 Chickenwarlord has once again achieved the last place wooden spoon with 24 points. Chavous wasn't far behind in seventh place with 33 points. TheoConfidor made his return to PRC through sixth place with 38 points. Pocketman made a bold entry to fifth place with 51 points. Andy Jayne chipped through to fourth place with 59 points. Villainelle made her way into third place this time with 65 points. OneUp only just squeezed past her as well as only just settling for second place with 66 points. And the winner of PRC88 is Rexy with 67 points! See? I wasn't kidding when the votes were THAT TIGHT. AGAIN. >.> But nonetheless, another PRC, another opportunity to find a source tune. I hope to get something ready for you by friday. Well done on the turnout, all. I think we can come to the conclusion that Sir Nuts knows his source tunes pretty well. Nonetheless, I'll see you in a few days time with the thread for PRC89.

The votes are really, REALLY tight with 15 minutes left to go. And just like last time, the leader keeps changing with almost every vote sent through. If you want to make a difference, keep voting

If you thought the turnout for this is huge, wait til you start competing in the Dwelling of Duels every month. THAT'S what we gotta fear more Over 11 hours left, and tick and tock...

Just so you guys know, I will have an update over the weekend, but I've been too swamped by my IT studies lately to get time to make the render on what I've done earlier in the week. Nonetheless, I should have it here by Sunday night at the latest.

In GMT, your time is 10AM on Saturday morning. I hope this is of some clarification. Also, Bladiator's PRC81 entry just passed the judges panel and is now facing the long and tedious waiting process before it becomes available on the site. Attaboy Karl, you know we love you

You try telling that to Vig; according to the lyrics to Funky Monkey Love, he sees taking things "nice and slow" as a way to seduce the ladies. Weren't you two separated at birth anyways?
