Welcome back, ORC. Interesting 51 contest jump though, but I personally won't blame you. Now, let's see what kind of entries we can get out of this one. I wonder what kind of people would make it sound more/less pop-song-ish than it already is (yay random thoughts on a sunday morning)

Isn't S.S.H. just one guy? He was born Saitama Saisyu Heiki for a reason, Kyle.
-
It never did get a release in North America. All that came on the English side was a translation from Gideon Zhi and a bunch of translators.

The remixing stage is over. And now, let's move on to the voting. What you do is you send me a PM and rank all the entries from first to eighth. Contenders don't need to place their own songs as they automatically get a first place vote. The vote for the winner of PRC87 (Sir Nuts) is doubled. You have until Tuesday, February 27th at 4:59AM EST to make your vote. The winner gets to choose the source material for PRC89! ZIP Archive Andy Jayne - 6581: A Sid Odyssey Chavous - Far Too Lazy Chickenwarlord - Garnet Eclipse OneUp - Lunarstorm Pocketman - Lunar Mission Rexy - El Camino a Mañana TheoConfidor - Overwhelmed With Beauty Villainelle - Hold On To Now The People's Remix Competition 88 PRCv4-10 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! PRC87's Spyro related competition had one of the most heated votes I've seen in weeks, yet through all the odds, Sir Nuts came through as the winner via turning to the funk genre for creating his entry. So once again, we have a source tune from the king of palm trees, decided from what seemed like an entire Wednesday night of browsing through various source materials. We're still with disc systems, but this time we're going further back with what can arguably be seen as one of the best games on the Sega CD. That's unless you think RPGs are for geeks... >.> Lunar: Eternal Blue - Field of Reaching for Tomorrow MIDI | MP3 It's experiencing music like what I saw through there that actually makes me want to check out what else the Sega CD is capable of. That's on my list of "stuff to do before ghost-discing my computer". But yeah, I'll ramble about that later. GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. There is no limit on entry format or file size, but length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed. Entries must be posted in this thread by NEXT SATURDAY, February 24th at 4:59am Eastern US Time. Alternatively, you can also email your submissions over to submission@doulifee.com, though it would also help if you put forward a reminder in the thread. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted. The winner of the previous contest may not enter an eligible mix, but his/her vote will count double. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. Doulifée's PRC Archives! If you need help with hosting your mix, contact myself or Doulifée, and we'll help you out.

Thank you, very much appreciated So, what is there to do now than announce who took the gold? Let's all hold all hands and paws and see who defeated Gnasty Gnorc and reclaimed the hidden treasures... I mean, won the PRC. Total number of songs: 4 Total number of mixes: 14 (woohoo!) Highest possible score: 56 avaris ended up in last place with 22 points. V_gasm had a close battle and settled for third place with 37 points. The Orichalcon cleared his return via a route to second place with 41 points. And the winner of PRC87 is Sir Nuts with 42 points! Holy crap! Not only did we see an influx of votes, but we also saw a very tight battle for first place here. Either way, you've got the gold Nuts. (that didn't come out right...) You know the deal - send me a source tune by Friday and I'll have the competition geared up promptly. So, what can I say? Well done for another successful PRC. Hopefully I should see you all again on Friday, same OCR-place, same OCR-channel.

I think we need the response more than ever. We currently have a TIE at the moment, and I really hope that someone would chip in in the next 20 minutes to break it up. Please?

I still can't edit. I've had to rely on Doulifee to do that, though goodness knows how long it would last. I do see that you like a moderate turnout of 4 or 5, though for me I seem to be missing the days when various PRCs can tow in at least 6 on a more consistent basis than the norm. I do feel though that as long as quality is further emphasised than quantity for quantity's sake, that should be what matters. Anyway, you have eight hours left. Get cracking and don't let any stupid cupids knock you down on the way out
-
Wut? It's only four main entries. The only way we CAN get uptight about that situation is if there's about 7 or more entries involved. Thanks for the votes so far though.
-
Don't worry about it. It still shows that you took your time to contribute nonetheless. It's too late to add you to the voting, but I still hope that you are able to contribute again for the next contest. And man, votes are coming in here like hotcakes. Nice work so far

I played that game, and Pogo's chapter was the first chapter I got to play. Surprisingly enough, this track was among what I feel is the easiest to make interpretations of. I'm not saying that I might though, but I think it's a fun source that practically anyone can tustle with. If I have time before my Uni studies are over for good I might do that.
-
I don't think that's a good idea. Odds are that someone could cheat if they see the source tune before the next contest. And there could be bias for certain games as well, so I don't see it to work well in practice.

The mixing stage is over. Now it's time to get onto the voting stage. to do so, you send me a PM and in that PM you need to place all four mixes from first to fourth. Contestants don't need to place their own songs as they will automatically get a first place vote. The vote of the winner of PRC86 (myself) counts twice. You have until Wednesday, February 14th at 4:59AM EST to cast your vote. The winner will get to choose the source material for PRC87! ouch, that's not looking good X.x But if this keeps persisting, I'm still going to end up extending time until we get a new challenger or two. I can only go as far back as Monday morning as we need time for the winner of the contest to pick a source material too. I can't believe it might even come to that

Your new deadline is Sunday, February 11th at 10AM GMT. Same time, different day.
-
okay, only two entries and it's Saturday. As far as I'm concerned, that's not enough to start a voting spree upon. The way I see it, I'll extend the deadline by 24 hours to make room for any more new challengers. I really hope that we can get just a little more of a push from this. (hah, do my source tunes usually cause delays like this? )
-
There's a quick reminder that you have 23 hours left to make your mixes. Please, get cracking for the sake of PRC musics.

Nario goes to church?! I do see what you mean though. This week I've got to prepare about 12 pages of design documentation for my research and development project. I take the second semester is the busier of the two.

I don't know for myself, but it is a free game with music. And lately we've had Cave Story get some remix coverage out here, also being a free game with music (albeit through an executable file rather than Flash). It might be acceptable, but I say ask the judges before you make haste on covering it.

Malcos did a steadier variation on the Sonic 1 boss theme. I also recall versions done by Mustin and Sefiros, but we have to wait til VGMix comes back up or someone has their versions stored somewhere.

PRC86's Secret of Mana related compo received quite the mixed reaction, but regardless, the end result was that there was a healthy amount of coverage with six songs unleashed as a result. Somehow I'm seeing the Mana series to be a good omen for me, as I took the win with some orchestral... new age... thing. Nevertheless, it's time we got PRC87 going, and this one will have some good ol' fashioned PlayStation coverage. In Little Samson, you had a flying mystical lizard for an ally. In Secret of Mana, you rode a flying mystical lizard into the air to traverse the map once you obtained some kind of drum. In this game, however, you ARE the flying mystical lizard. Man, this takes me back to the times when I was merely a pre-teen in gaming growth. There was just so much that I came to love about this series in its inconception - vast and mystical worlds to roam around in, a great balance between free combat and challenge, and may I say there were some beautiful graphics considering it ran on a primitive disc system. But what got me more impressed than most was the musical score, done here by Stewart Copeland from the Police. Though he merely scored the first four console titles, the series in general had some powerful music to coincide with the atmosphere of the area that you're in, and especially in the case of the PS1 titles they've been composed in such a way that many of these would work well as strong standout instrumentals in their own right. This source in particular is what I feel is one of the strongest examples of that, combining some strong melodic ideas with heavy emphasis on stringed sounds and various pitched percussion. I hope as a result of seeing what there is, we may get some powerful recognition as a result. Best of luck to everyone who decides to take part Spyro the Dragon - Opening Theme MIDI | MP3 Before anyone asks about the thread title, everyone should know that 87 is Liontamer's favorite number, apprently. I see that those are the words coming out from either a guy who was there during the judgment of the source tune, or a guy who drank Caribbean rum with their lunch today. Which is it, you'll find out on Friday -
Don't say it, it'll only make us more terrified X_x Whichever is the case, I'll send another mailshot over the weekend and see what everyone's up to. Odds are we may even NEED a second guy to help out.

Right, it's now time to cast the results. As I said, I can't believe how quiet some of you were! Total number of mixes - 6 Total number of votes - 9 (you guys are still pathetic @.@) Highest possible score - 54 Anorak finished in last place with 19 points. xela made his way to fifth place with 22 points. Nario achieved a surprising fourth place finish with 29 points. avaris followed on by reaching third place with 34 points. Villainelle started her (is it a her?) time in the PRC with a second place finish, obtaining 44 points. And the winner of PRC86 is Rexy with 46 points! Great, once again I'm going to be the one picking a source tune. No worries, I've got ideas circulating. I'll make sure to make PRC87 a good one. Also, you can all slap me on the back for the whole ORC announcement from the last PRC. TO told me it would start up again, but I haven't heard much back yet. So yes, please cut some slack. o_O Regardless, I hope to see you all again for PRC87. Be here by Friday at Noon board time.
