  1. Yeah, just had to come somewhere down the line... Anyway, I just want to let you know that I have been working on my contribution for the project. It may be a bit dense right now, and even here it's practically unfinished, but it's as much as I could go through before Easter break. Right-click here and select "Save Target As" in order to download the file. Might as well tell a bit about what I did. The music in both acts of the Angel Island Zone, although similar, seem to portray a different range of melodic values as a whole. The first half of the piece portrays the island at peace, all leading into a light fast-tempo segment that signifies meeting up with Eggman's fire machine thing. The second half - which I admit still needs work - showcases the pain of the island, burning into rubble and appearing of more of a hellish nature; even with that painful image in mind, the player still needs to go on to defeat Eggman and reclaim the Chaos Emeralds, even if it does take several zones at a time. Thanks for your time, good sirs and madames ^^
  2. Not yet, but I'll clobber anyone who dares come up with Hedgehog Heaven II
  3. Hey, I don't see that as your fault man. More likely it'll be mine for not exposing any photographs of myself from the shoulders down And yea, suppose Star could be taken into account on this one. But who gives a toss about real-life appearance anyway? It's the music that counts, heh.
  4. That quote came from Gothic_Fairy_Princess, or OverCoat. Then again, almost anything could be expected from him. But yeah, I found that to be an awkward surprise as such; not exactly the best thing to see first thing in the morning, but I'll try my best not to be so rash next time. Ironically, I don't know what to expect from yanks on a Saturday night ;
  5. As far as I'm concerned it may take several weeks before I could provide a WIP due to Easter break, but I hope to make a good start. Hope this wouldn't panic anyone
  6. Bleh, I suck at techno, so there's no way you're getting squealing synths from me
  7. Ouch, sorry to see the show didn't go ahead. But heck, I'm sure we can all wait on for the makeup show when it comes around. Good luck getting the comp fixed. And happy birthday to the B-Unit, you lucky bastard, you [EDIT: And I don't know what the heck some of these people were getting at to me in episode 50's chatlog (yes, I sneaked my way onto Paige's webspace ) but some of their comments I found were rather offensive. I know it's meant to be a sarcastic atmosphere, but... "so fat offline and online"? WTF?]
  8. hm, well if this project goes ahead I wouldn't mind having a stab at the Angel Island Zone theme And yeah, it did feel rather soon after the Sonic 2 remix project, but whichever happens it'll be interesting to see how far it could go
  9. That can be fair in terms of English structure, but... I thought that would have made that a bit obvious
  10. Whether it's a mix-up or not, I'm still digging this. I've been waiting patiently for the results of the project for over a year now, and to see it finally unveiled is great to take in. I appreciate much of the groove brought to it, as well as much of the twisted variations on the theme that have been implemented down the line. I see that to be a great way to be able to start the project. While I did end up having qualms about the piano sound choice, I somehow managed to see that as no biggie as the music went on - possibly an intention given the source material. But hey, this is great work from analoq, and I'll be sure to check out the remaining portions of the project soon
  11. Unless I get a job sometime soon, they'll have to be free But hey, the samples you provided me seem to work nicely. Took a while to figure out how to use them, but it's all fine. Maybe I could play around with these while putting together the overall touches on my next piano work. Thanks, man.
  12. Heh, I'm really starting to get the hang of this Thanks for your queries, and I'll be sure to bear those thoughts in mind.
  13. Hi, I've been pointed in the direction of some piano VSTs among the forums a couple of days ago, however due to the crash the links were wiped out. In other words... can you please link me towards some good piano sounds? Thanks
  14. Can't say that I'm familiar with the source material, but this is pretty damn good in its own right. This mix has got a wide range of atmospheres throughout, from the mentioned happy hardcore portions at the start towards some more climatic Ratchet & Clank style progressions from around 0:38 to 0:59 to what can be shown to be what I feel is the main pulse of the piece from 1:31 onwards given the upbeat synths all around it. I see this as a mix full of surprises, so that's also great to know. One thing that has seemed to quirk me about it is that to me it sounded like two mixes sellotaped at once, given the vast differences between the opening and the rest of the mix. I also thought the synths that came in at 1:31 felt a bit dry for my taste, but that's probably just me. They in no way dampen this mix as a whole. Excellent work all around. I may sound a bit geeky saying this, but has anyone tried singing Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" alongside the music at 4:12? That's what that area reminds me of, in a good way of course.
  15. Dammit... I posted this message yesterday and it got deleted due to the forum hacking. Anyway... I've been thinking of wanting to use FL over the Summer for any possible future mix work. But I want you to picture this scenario - Let's say that I performed a piece in MIDI, and I want to enhance it in FL with better sounds. But how can I do that? The MIDI won't play back, and I'm having problems just trying to change sound channels. This message may be a bit brief, but any aid on this one will be warmly appreciated
  16. Aaaargh, why did the #48 playlist have to get affected in the forum screwup? I request a re-posting, ASAP. On a lighter note... Happy birthday to the Oji-meiser. ^^
  17. Wow, now this is definitely an improved effort over the VGMix version. I for one thought the sounds are shown to be much sharper than previously encountered, and the extended intro - not to mention the further polish granted on the closure - also managed to surprise me as such. I also loved the extention of the drum patterns in this one - somehow they have managed to provide a fuller sound when it came to the overall provision, something which I thought seemed to lack upon the original unveiling. Awesome cameo granted by Kairi's theme tune at 3:18 too. Course, much of the repetition can be shown to be there in terms of melodic structure, although I still stand by my original thought of this structure sounding pretty similar to Daniel Baranowsky's "Agony of Obscuration", so you practically can't go wrong. Of course, Kingdom Hearts can do with some further love in terms of coverage, and not only have you done that but also provided something that I thought wouldn't have deemed possible until a bit later down the line - taking a world theme and emphasizing on its atmosphere. Good stuff. Now all that's missing is a cameo for Tarzan...
  18. In the words of chthonic, I'm "totally a girl". Mind, I'm surprised with the response granted all around it. I for one had a lot of fun playing the piece through, and I'm proud of that. I understand the thought on the slight unease around the higher notes, and should I put forward future works of a similar calibre I'll look into that. Thanks. Who knows, maybe one of these days I might cover this particular source again, although chances are it'll be a few years before I think of taking that cannon
  19. Definitely a contrast to I Got the Spacebeam Carbo has provided another rocking effort all around as provided by his take on the target themes, and solid proof that he can provide some quality punk progression all around; compositionally I see this to be one of his better pieces out there, one that has managed to match with the likes of Fight On and the recent Dual Storm (collab with BrainCells) from this month's DoD. I was fine with the overall EQs, I'm sure, however if one thing had me questionable I'd point at the panning approach; the thick textures are definitely there when it came to the guitar, but I felt that much of it was dependant on one speaker within the opening stages. But outside from that, this is great, great stuff from CarboHydroM. Funny you mentioned the tape deck though, because I used to do the same thing with my Sega Genesis when I was a kid. Coincidence, ney?
  20. Ah, another Reu mix has arrived here. This mix almost reminds me of Ascension to Cosmo Canyon given the instrument structure, and even here I feel more amazed on this than the previous mainly due to the broader scopes on the overall composition and what I feel is a fuller overall performance. Good thoughts to dynamics all around too. My only gripes with this would be relating to the shakuhachi volume right at the end - didn't seem to stand out too much in comparison to some of the pace as shown on the rest of the instrumentation, but this is still a real pleasure to listen to. Be sure to keep going with your work, Mr. Kee
  21. You've gone a good job on this, Nuts. Definitely a more refined effort since the VGMix version when it came to the mastering (more than likely to be noticeable on the drum effects, the lack of clipping and some synth pad improvements) and it still stands as one of the more creative variations on the theme I've witnessed (i.e. it's not a rock arrangement like the thousand others I've heard ). I saw where Larry was coming from with the flute EQing though, but I don't see that to be a big problem. I'll be sure to keep a grasp on this for a while.
  22. I loved it when it came to VGMix, and I still love it now. The range of performance techniques brought upon the player have done well to build up a cleverly done piano arrangement for the site to take in, something in which the site hasn't seen in days. One thing that I never noticed until a few listens later was that he's got a squeaking chair - make sure your volume's up at around 2:25 to hear it. But leaving that recording glitch out, this piece works well within OCR's library. Sweet job Noir
  23. I want to post my VGMix review on this, but ever since the site's down I'll cut this message to a few simple words. I see it as one of the coolest Time Circuits mixes out there, what with the almost perfect levelling and improvisations brought in the piece. It might have helped to soften the mandolin a bit, but that aside this is a stunning piece of work from one of VGMix's veterans... and someday one for OCRemix too
  24. Sounds odd to hear a Sega Master System Sonic 2 track here, but eh... the Reich style definitely fits within the piece, and the instruments chosen fill the atmosphere for the game level nicely, as well as keeping true to the original track for the most part. Dynamics have been recreated gracefully, allowing a lot of deep bassy sounds to come around and fill the spot beautifully. And how did you manage to cram a 90-second track within five minutes? The melody (and instruments for it) have improvised a lot within the time, adding a lot of depth to the piece. It's these kind of things that manage to keep the listener listening to the piece. I'm probably picky about the fadeout at the end though, but eh... nevermind If I can point out a few things that need improving, then I'm sure that we could have at least had a keychange somewhere - does seem a bit plain playing a G (minor) chord all the way through the piece. But that aside, we've got a handsome winner here. Now, give us an Aquatic Ruin remix! (j/k)
  25. Took me a while to try and figure out the original piece... is it the fanfare played after winning battles? @_@ Whichever it is, aluminium has done a great job upon creating a remix based on a track that's under 30 seconds long without loops. And it seems that it's been built up as the piece went on, from the steady section at the start, to a hint of jazz near the middle, and as stated, the Monty Python clip. For those that are lacking a few brain cells (like me ), the last section - which sounds a lot like the original piece itself - will instantly get you familiarised with the original. The instruments have been mixed together tightly, keeping things at a soothing pace and has shown as a pleasing sight to the ears. And the wide range of sounds and how they've been put together have also given him a good range of marks. Overall, you've got great potential and an impressive start rookie.
