  1. Aaaargh, why did the #48 playlist have to get affected in the forum screwup? I request a re-posting, ASAP. On a lighter note... Happy birthday to the Oji-meiser. ^^
  2. Wow, now this is definitely an improved effort over the VGMix version. I for one thought the sounds are shown to be much sharper than previously encountered, and the extended intro - not to mention the further polish granted on the closure - also managed to surprise me as such. I also loved the extention of the drum patterns in this one - somehow they have managed to provide a fuller sound when it came to the overall provision, something which I thought seemed to lack upon the original unveiling. Awesome cameo granted by Kairi's theme tune at 3:18 too. Course, much of the repetition can be shown to be there in terms of melodic structure, although I still stand by my original thought of this structure sounding pretty similar to Daniel Baranowsky's "Agony of Obscuration", so you practically can't go wrong. Of course, Kingdom Hearts can do with some further love in terms of coverage, and not only have you done that but also provided something that I thought wouldn't have deemed possible until a bit later down the line - taking a world theme and emphasizing on its atmosphere. Good stuff. Now all that's missing is a cameo for Tarzan...
  3. In the words of chthonic, I'm "totally a girl". Mind, I'm surprised with the response granted all around it. I for one had a lot of fun playing the piece through, and I'm proud of that. I understand the thought on the slight unease around the higher notes, and should I put forward future works of a similar calibre I'll look into that. Thanks. Who knows, maybe one of these days I might cover this particular source again, although chances are it'll be a few years before I think of taking that cannon
  4. Definitely a contrast to I Got the Spacebeam Carbo has provided another rocking effort all around as provided by his take on the target themes, and solid proof that he can provide some quality punk progression all around; compositionally I see this to be one of his better pieces out there, one that has managed to match with the likes of Fight On and the recent Dual Storm (collab with BrainCells) from this month's DoD. I was fine with the overall EQs, I'm sure, however if one thing had me questionable I'd point at the panning approach; the thick textures are definitely there when it came to the guitar, but I felt that much of it was dependant on one speaker within the opening stages. But outside from that, this is great, great stuff from CarboHydroM. Funny you mentioned the tape deck though, because I used to do the same thing with my Sega Genesis when I was a kid. Coincidence, ney?
  5. Ah, another Reu mix has arrived here. This mix almost reminds me of Ascension to Cosmo Canyon given the instrument structure, and even here I feel more amazed on this than the previous mainly due to the broader scopes on the overall composition and what I feel is a fuller overall performance. Good thoughts to dynamics all around too. My only gripes with this would be relating to the shakuhachi volume right at the end - didn't seem to stand out too much in comparison to some of the pace as shown on the rest of the instrumentation, but this is still a real pleasure to listen to. Be sure to keep going with your work, Mr. Kee
  6. You've gone a good job on this, Nuts. Definitely a more refined effort since the VGMix version when it came to the mastering (more than likely to be noticeable on the drum effects, the lack of clipping and some synth pad improvements) and it still stands as one of the more creative variations on the theme I've witnessed (i.e. it's not a rock arrangement like the thousand others I've heard ). I saw where Larry was coming from with the flute EQing though, but I don't see that to be a big problem. I'll be sure to keep a grasp on this for a while.
  7. I loved it when it came to VGMix, and I still love it now. The range of performance techniques brought upon the player have done well to build up a cleverly done piano arrangement for the site to take in, something in which the site hasn't seen in days. One thing that I never noticed until a few listens later was that he's got a squeaking chair - make sure your volume's up at around 2:25 to hear it. But leaving that recording glitch out, this piece works well within OCR's library. Sweet job Noir
  8. I want to post my VGMix review on this, but ever since the site's down I'll cut this message to a few simple words. I see it as one of the coolest Time Circuits mixes out there, what with the almost perfect levelling and improvisations brought in the piece. It might have helped to soften the mandolin a bit, but that aside this is a stunning piece of work from one of VGMix's veterans... and someday one for OCRemix too
  9. Sounds odd to hear a Sega Master System Sonic 2 track here, but eh... the Reich style definitely fits within the piece, and the instruments chosen fill the atmosphere for the game level nicely, as well as keeping true to the original track for the most part. Dynamics have been recreated gracefully, allowing a lot of deep bassy sounds to come around and fill the spot beautifully. And how did you manage to cram a 90-second track within five minutes? The melody (and instruments for it) have improvised a lot within the time, adding a lot of depth to the piece. It's these kind of things that manage to keep the listener listening to the piece. I'm probably picky about the fadeout at the end though, but eh... nevermind If I can point out a few things that need improving, then I'm sure that we could have at least had a keychange somewhere - does seem a bit plain playing a G (minor) chord all the way through the piece. But that aside, we've got a handsome winner here. Now, give us an Aquatic Ruin remix! (j/k)
  10. Took me a while to try and figure out the original piece... is it the fanfare played after winning battles? @_@ Whichever it is, aluminium has done a great job upon creating a remix based on a track that's under 30 seconds long without loops. And it seems that it's been built up as the piece went on, from the steady section at the start, to a hint of jazz near the middle, and as stated, the Monty Python clip. For those that are lacking a few brain cells (like me ), the last section - which sounds a lot like the original piece itself - will instantly get you familiarised with the original. The instruments have been mixed together tightly, keeping things at a soothing pace and has shown as a pleasing sight to the ears. And the wide range of sounds and how they've been put together have also given him a good range of marks. Overall, you've got great potential and an impressive start rookie.
  11. Very sweet remix. Anyone looking for something to chill with on a bad day won't be disappointed with this one Great use of instruments, nice compression with the sounds, and the whole concept just sounds so stunning. Along with Beatdrop's Deep Damp Sandcastle, this could easily become one of my preferred tracks in the Sonic and Knuckles collection. While we're here... is there anyone out there that can provide us with a Doomsday Zone remix? ;
  12. Like Marmite! hmmm... yeah, I think it has that James Bond feel with its drum beat, which isn't a bad thing and making it longer must have been a possibility, as most of the great ones I know go for around five minutes. And MarcStar, you're welcome for accepting our reviews.
  13. Quote me wrong, but I think this is a remix of Liberi Fatali. I find it a bit short in places, as well as a bit midi-involved, but it didn't really bug me as such when listening though. A few more effects to be rolled in and we should have had a winner here. [edit: ok, I'm wrong, it WAS the ending theme! *gives a handshake to Google* -.o]
  14. hehe... when I heard this remix I was instantly surprised by the use of effects here. Some of which even made me crack up laughing, like the chipmunked Craig David voice sample at 0:31 and the tone-bent piano somewhere in the middle. If you wanna wake up so badly and/or have had a bad enough day/week/life already, this is your remedy!
  15. This remix seems to be a pretty interesting take on the Ice Cap Zone theme repeated several times before. Like the harps and panning within the piece, as well as the sound bytes of jumping and grabbing rings inbetween. ^.^ But, as stated by Eccles, if the introduction was cut out this remix would have been perfect
  16. I was surprised by this remix of the Lifestream tune, and it was one of those many tracks I've been waiting for a chance to listen to for a while now. Very wise selection of instruments (some of which even tickled my nose ), and a great use of dynamics here. I thought they used too much treble somewhere, but that's just me. Overall, a great remix, if not perfect.
  17. You must be mad O.O; ahem... I first heard this track about four months ago, and what got me was not the use of the instruments but for the use of surprise throughout the track. This has got to be a more favored remix than most of the others than I've heard, if not one of the best in the Final Fantasy 6 collection. "That's it man, game over man, game over!"
  18. Whoa... this is beautiful. A highly powerful orchestral version of the opening. Anyone who hasn't heard it yet should leave this page and check it out right now!
  19. bLiNd managed to impress me with his Blue Vision remix (currently in my faves), and with this work on my favorite song in DKC he has created a just a stunning track. Then again I may be saying that because I'm a bit of a trance-head... Ahem... great use of percussion and SFX, a fine structure to boot, and a wise choice of delays on the piano notes near the start! However, the only problem I can find is a bit too much reverb used, but that doesn't spoil the mix dramatically ^^;
  20. I thought it seemed cool too, with the instruments given the urban effect and making this a powerful remake of the Special Stage theme. But I could have enjoyed it a lot more if the music suddenly didn't stop pausing every two seconds o.O; Speaking of which, did anyone else face the same problems?
  21. I kinda like this mix. It holds almost all of the same kick that kept the original "It's Difficult To Stand On Both Feet, Isn't It?" a powerful track in the FFVII soundtrack, while at the same time it happens to please techno fans around here. The progression from the kick drums through to the melody start at 1'46", a powerful middle, and the quieting down at the 30 seconds at the end have all aided to keep the track in line. Essential for FFVII fans and trance freaks. Not sure about the rest of you, but eh...
  22. I say Robotnik in Sonic Spinball. It's a bit hard to keep inside the boss table while trying to hit him at the same time.
