Waaaay too much treble, it's a good thing I judge on speakers because my ears would be dead right now on headphones. That is the biggest issue for this mix right now. At about 1.13 the pads and piano seem to be on different planets concerning chords. A similar thing happens at 1.59 and at various other points in this mix - lots of dissonance. At 2.55 when the guitar is about to finish that section, my ears are just about dropping off. There is more, but I could only listen to this twice - my ears are hurting. NO (resubmit)

Interesting. Like the guy says this really depends on the frequency response of your headphones as well, which will affect the result to some extent.

I'm definitely with Palpable on this one. I really liked the arrangement (apart from that bit at 2.46!), overall it was stellar. However some work does need to be done on the mixing side. The drum sounds are of a much lower quality than the other instruments and sound quite thin. Your ride and crash cymbals are also a tad too loud. Paerhaps some careful panning can make the instruments work together but not mush so much. Arrangement is there, just needs some more mixing. I'd love to see this posted. I think the brass sounded ok - it is very hard to find good brass samples, and whilst it is the weakest part of the mix I think the sound worked for the arrangement. This arrangement was very good indeed, incorporating all the themes from the various sources into a cohesive piece. The dynamics were very good, and the mix was very engaging. I'm not sure if the ending was as grandiose as it was probably mean to be - but it doesn't stop me from passing this. YES

This may not have the thickest texture or be the most dynamic with regards to lead sounds, but taken in context (that this is an ending theme), all of the stylistic choices made here make perfect sense. I felt that near the end the pad section was too long, but other than that, everything else is above bar for me. YES

Excellent arrangement, quite an emotive piece as well. I particularly like the last third of the song. However the strings are the biggest issue for me, as though they weren't originally sampled anywhere near the pitches they're being played at. This isn't so much of a problem in the second half of the mix - it's at 47 seconds where there is a string section, and the strings that play the highest notes, sounds very unrealistic and spoils what is a great arrangement. Same at around 2.32-2.55. This may seem like a nitpick to reject a mix based on one instrument but since it forms such an integral part of the piece, I would really like to see a resubmission of this because it's a really great arrangement. NO (Good candidate for resubmission)

Oh I hear auto pitching something going on. But it's done in the music industry anyway so I wont have it as an issue... In the section at around 20 seconds the background vocals almost drown out the lead, this definitely needs some more mixing and compression control. NO (Good candidate for resubmission)

The guitar playing is excellent here, and the arrangement is great. Production is good, I think any difference here from more a contemporary sound is due to the mixer going for an 80's sound. I don't feel that volume is an issue technically, only stylistically...I'm going to yes this as everything is above the bar for me. However if DJP feels that the use of the Megadeth track was too much, then I accept that. YES

'Let's get it STARTed' is prob my favourite track here. Great album, I like the complexity and the sub basses and everything. Last track is very interesting, something about it sounds familiar

Well I think we're all agreed that the clipping needs to be sorted out lol. eg loud piano between 2.22 -2.50, you don't even need a program, you can blatantly hear it. Moving on... The issue here is complex because is quite subjective. I listen to a lot of jazz so I know that the chord voicings often change and that the 'skeleton notes' of the chord (usually the 3rd and 7th) can be used on their own to identify a chord. With that in mind, I can definitely hear the chord progression throughout, and the fact that the original doesn't have that much melody in relation to a typical jazz piece means turning the source to jazz would undoubtedly involve a lot of originality. Whilst I accept (from Liontamer's breakdown) that the source usage might not quite reach 50% of this mix - due to 23 seconds - the fact that the chords run throughout, albeit in altered form (I can definitely hear them), and the source melody is explored and altered on, makes this mix a conditional pass for me. Just fix the clipping. YES(conditional)

I didn't hear the previous versions of this, so I can't really comment on this with regards to revisions. What I hear is good though. All of the things I look for- arrangement, production, overall feel, links to the original etc are present here. The quick rhythmic changes (examples at 1.09, 1.34 and 3.34) would be confusing, but I think that it is admissible given the musical context. YES

LOL. This was 7 years ago, which is ages in my book. This is the first song I ever made way back when I first got Fruityloops, and I was very excited to see it posted up on OCR. Brings back memories.

I haven't been on these forums for ages! Finishing uni and all that stuff. I can hear a slight latency when using the 512 band mode, but it's not too bad - it sounds like maybe 25 ms delay, 40 at the most. I layered 2 house rex loops to test it, and the latency actually gave it a more dancy feel lol*. I suppose depending how you use it, it could definitely become a problem. The vocoder is good because it almost completely kills the signal rather than just attenuating it if you turn a band all the way down. EDIT:* No, actually it sounded shit.

The quality of the recording and the playing is excellent. The issue here is the level of re-arrangement and whether it is different enough from the source. The section from 1 minute to 1.40 does feel different from the source, however the rest is made up of slight changes, and I had to listen to the source and the remix a few times to be able to specifically highlight the differences in the remixed version, aside from the section I already mentioned. I like this performance a lot, but for OCR we need more originality. It would be great to see a resub of this. NO (Good candidate for resubmission)

The arrangement here is definitely a pass for me, however the musical ideas here are not fully realised due to the production and mixing. The overall sound level is very low - it worked in the intro but that low level just continues throughout the entire mix. The instruments playing the melodies and the percussion weren't prominent enough in the mix, as Liontamer has already mentioned. This makes the mix sound undefined. There is also a distinct lack of high frequencies in the instrumentation, and coupled with too much reverb on the piano, makes the mix sound very muddy and cluttered at times. Nice arrangement, but the mixing/production was really under par with this one. NO

I have the M-Audio prokeys 88 SX, as my midi controller, which is a semi-weighted keyboard and it's perfect for me because it has onboard sounds too just in case of a gig or something. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProKeys88sx-main.html DO NOT GET THE 88ES! I played around with a lot of keyboards when I bought mine, and a semi weighted feel is best for me. The 88 ES keys are disgustingly sticky and clicky and the action is uneven across the keys. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Keystation88es-main.html I would seriously recommend you go to a shop and play around and compare the different keyboards before buying. I am able to adapt to a number of different keyboards, but I'm sorry that ES was just plain nastiness. Please avoid.
