Which should I get, the Boss GT-8 or Pod XT Live?
PriZm replied to xaph's topic in Music Composition & Production
Boss has obvously are larger palette of effects and is pretty good for ethereal clean or weird tones. So if you want to play clean rhythm guitars or screaming leads, I'd say go for the GT-8. The POD has great high gain tones and is good for hard rock/metal rhythms and leads. Generally, low gains and bluesy leads always sound like shit without a very expensive cranked up tube amp. -

From what I've heard, Nightwish is more speedy than Evanescence, which make them lack the heaviness that I like. Also, they're a lot more dramatic sounding and less groovy, in my opinion. I couldn't find the groovy, danceable, almost funky feel that Tourniquet (verse) and Bring me to Life have in Nightwish songs. Of course, if you're more about technical prowess and sick arrangements, Nightwish might be your thing.

I don't like Evanescence because I've seen on TV that some people who like them dress like goths and since I'm so badass that I'm never depressed, I'll never admit to like some people who are liked by people who appear depressed by the way they dress. Wait, what ? Oh they're musicians too and I should just listen to the fucking music to base my opinion on their art instead of the target audience ? No way, my penis is much too big. This is what you self-proclaimed anti-goth sound like. If you're going to bash the band, please do it in a manner that pertains to their actual art. As for Tourniquet, well I think the drugs and religious references certainly don't help, but then there's the "I WANT TO DIE" and the "my suicide" at the end that would probably piss off overprotective parents to no end, so all in all it might be a good decision to not release it as a single. It's definitely one of their strongest song though, the syncopated instrumental part in the middle is the shit. Seeing them live definitely revigorated my interest in the band, because, except for 'Your Star' and 'Lacrymosa' (which is a beautiful love song), The Open Door is a lot weaker than Fallen in my opinion.

I will work the post-production. Now although I won't work the tracks individually, the difference will still be noticeable (like, my guitar tone will still suck compared to Sixto's) but, hopefully, not ridiculous.

Don't forget you can install the (new public) yellow dog Linux build on your PS3, making it a capable media and emulation center.

It's obvisouly way too early to be declaring a winner just yet. Yes, the PS3 had a weak launch, they still sold a million units worldwide and are consistently producing new ones. The Wii outselling the PS3 is mainly due to its cheapness and, you know, Zelda as a launch game. I think the truth is that neither of us know what's gonna happen, and all we say is pure speculation. Like, I know for a fact that Sony did not lose as many exclusives as it appears. Many of the games it supposedly 'lost' were never said to be exclusives and were scheduled to appear on the 360 too. The only reason why they didn't say that when they announced the game was too strenghthen business relations with Sony.

I just came from the Evanescence 'Open Door' show in Montreal and I'm in awe. The musicians were absolutely wonderfully tight and Amy Lee's voice made the Bell Centre tremble. They had a very strong set list, although it included some of the weaker songs from the latest album (like Snow White Queen). Highlights were Going Under, Bring me to Life, Haunted, Imaginary, Lacrymosa and they played their absolute best song (IMO), Your Star. Very few goths in the audience, which positively surprised me, and man was the audience pumped. After a very good performance by Stone Sour (their music was forgettable but the front man has unbelievable showmanship), the audience never stopped screaming like crazy for more Evanescence. I did like the band before the show, but now I'm fucking sold. The only major gripe I have is that Amy Lee seemed to have very little confidence in what herself and her band could deliver. She started the show by showing: "Wow, there's so many of you, I'm scared". And after that, 3 or 4 times during the show, she said : "This is our first show in the tour here in Montreal, so there's a lot a crazy crap going on. Sorry for all our mistakes", although nobody could notice whatever those mistakes were. And at the encore, after 5 minutes of non-stop crazy cheering, she came back and said: "Don't worry, we'll play a couple more songs. We're obligated by contract so we can't leave until this is done, anyways". While singing her songs, she seemed really into it and gave a great performance (even swaying her hair in the wind like metalheads) but in-between songs, she seemed completely pissed and/or miserable. Nevertheless, a great show, I just would've wished they played 'Tourniquet" and didn't mention their mistakes every time. If you've seen an Evanescence show, tell me what you think.

I don't know how far they can patch it with firmware. But, since you can run Linux on the PS3, and people at Paradox have already begun working on a ps3 loader to dump your game images on your hard drive and play them as backups from the hard drive (which should reduce loading times too !), there could be a PS2 loader app too, that enables players to play ps2 imports on their ps3. The loader could be updated every time sony patches its game, much like scraft map hacks were updated every time brood war was updated Of course, that might take a while. I was really looking forward to playing Narutimate Hero 3 on my PS3 when I thought It'd be region-free.

Do you people know of any way to play Japanese PS2 games on the PS3 ? The PS3 is NOT region free contrary to popular belief . The PS3 GAMES are "region free". PS3 games from japan and North America share the same region code, so it seems like it's region free. Example: PS2 North American Region Code: 1 PS2 Japanese Region Code: 2 PS3 North American Region Code: 1 PS3 Japanese Region Code: 1 And I thought the PS3 Hardware for Japan and America was the same, i.e. the Emotion Engine in the PS3 being able to play games region-free. Now do you know if there is a way to play import games with PS3, like Swap Magic or something like this ?

Seriously. The other kids are even worse to answer everyone one of his troll posts instead of just ignoring him.

Joe Satriani has a lot of 'tubeness' in his sound; you can hear all the variations he put in dynamics with his fingers even if he uses heavy distortion. If you wanna have a sound like him, you better buy a tube amp and crank it up to have natural tube distortion. I haven't heard any software amp where you can get a decent solo distortion.

So I finally sold my 20GB PS3 for 700 $CAN (which is barely over the 660 CAN$ it cost including taxes) and got me a full-fledged 60GB and, apart from the very small choice of titles, I love it. The interface is clean and easy to use. The interface seems clean and easy to use, the controller is remarkably light and the R2 and L2 being more 'analogish' is all very sweet. Resistance looks fucking awesome, a bit better than Gears of War from what I've seen. I don't normally like shooters but this one got me. The system is clearly designed to be used with HDTVs, because even the interface looks awful in 480i. But I'm sure it promises to be a great systems when the better games come out. The major cons I see are the following: 1) there is no way to downgrade resolution easily, apart from disabling the higher resolutions everytime you want to play a game with lower resolution. Since I use HDMI, I have to switch to AV and 480i everytime I want to play a PS2 game since they look better that way. 2) it cannot play .avi files on a DVD. Like, I cannot download an anime from the internet and play it with the base OS. Of course with Linux the problem will be solved, but it still is a feature I would have liked in the base OS. 3) The error messages don't tell you anything. While trying to register my account on the PlaystationShop, I received an error message telling my screen name was invalid for no particular reason, and I kept trying until I found one that was accepted. I tried using at least one number in my name (pak0), using symbols PriZm[A01]) and it kept telling me it was invalid. So I finally settled with PriZm001 but it bothered me like hell. Since the Wii doesn't compete directly with either MS or Sony, as it is designed for a completely different use, I don't see Sony dreamcasting this one. I think, even if it loses exclusives, the Japanese still seem to vouch for it and make it a choice console over the X360 for developers. I would love to see the three companies aiming for three different markets: 1) the Wii for party oriented games 2) the X360 for American developers 3) the PS3 for Japanese developers That way, the consumer would have a clear idea of what they're purchasing when they're buying the console.

Quick question for Wii users. Can I use a GC action replay to play a GC import ?

I think that, to get the zodiac spear, you have to NOT be wearing Diamond Armlet in the Nabudis chests. However, you have to be wearing it if you want the spear from the Henne Mines.

are you over the age limit to sign up for these forums? He likes Kalmah, the power metal band, so I'm going to have to go with yes.

So anybody else think Omega is impossible ?

The PS3 being the only console that can playback movies in HD is a big deal for some people, like me. It's nearly impossible to buy a new quality TV without HD now so I'm betting it will get pretty standard in something like 3 years.

Shh. It's not about EXP - it's all about LP. I'm level 70. My LP board is complete for every character except for those useless bows/guns/swords that a given character will never use. Also, I was specifically talking about the gil snapper hunt, which came kinda late in the game, at least for me, and was a total bore.

Considering the prices on eBay have been dropping lately, you may want to settle for only one and a half times the price. Considering some auctions I saw yesterday, he might have to sell at a loss. I saw 60GB PS3s with less than an hour left, going for about 600CAD. They hadn't even hit their reserve price yet. There's also a Walmart in/near Granite City, that has had a 60GB PS3 since the day after launch and it hasn't even been asked after yet. They can't keep the Wii on the shelves, of course. Haha shit that's true ! Oh shit I'm fucked

I do have one, but it's still in the box waiting to be sold at 2 times the price.

You're going to have to explain that for those of us that don't read binary or whatever that is. The big numbers on the left are the sectors on the disk where the data is to be found, not the filesize. It is like number that tells the device the physical position on the file. All games in history have padding, because of limitations on the devices. I don't know specifically about the PS3 Blu-Ray, but let's say the Blu-Ray can seek only on 1 Meg aligned files. It means that if your movie file takes 17.6 Megs, you have to generate 0.4 Megs of padding to be able to seek (read) the next file on the disc, which would be at 18 Megs. Also, give it time. Just as there were new ways to exploit the DVD to store more space in games, I don't see how having 25G on a disc can NOT be beneficial for future games.

SPOILERS I'm getting really pissed off at this game, making me explore areas 4 times where monsters give me 2 EXP to get the right weather to get my hunting mark.
