  1. It does not look that much smaller Should've been white and red for a 1-2 punch of looking like a Famicon and because Canada
  2. timaeus222, gonna take these fixes to consideration. I use a multi-band compressor on most of my track channels, for a final pushing back and forth certain frequencies into the mix. Thought everything was below 0dB when I exported it. I tried to copy Koan Sound with the drums, I guess I went too far with giving them the oomph, lol. The snares will be cut back on the bass and low-mids. I'll see what I can do about quieting the breakdown sections, too. I agree there's not a lot of dynamics on there, haven't done too much work with the velocities.
  3. Just heard your Sonic compo mix, it sucks that the judges didn't accept it but it has a lot of potential! Are you still working on it?

  4. Listen here Probably takes a while to pick up, so I might add some more on the first 1:30. Mostly going by the groove now
  5. Cool, some Bomberman 64 music! Nice rhythm with the guitars, definitely has more energy than the original. I also think the drums need some work. They sound a bit sloppy, in particular the hi-hats. Sometimes the chords sound muffled under the guitars. Maybe you can include the arpeggio that's at the beginning too.
  6. I agree with Brandon that it takes a while for the mix to pick up, but you intended it to be a DJ friendly track, which is a reasonable explanation. So now it's time to re-arrange it to this site's standards. Cutting to the chase, here's my take on the remix: http://soundcloud.com/ccricers/scumbag-alley-alternate/s-jcELc It doesn't go too far from the source, but the build-ups and breakdowns are placed differently and I think it gets to the point faster. PS. You're on version 28 now? Geez, maybe that's just a revision number and not a straight up public release
  7. I've only completed one collab before, a couple years ago, and was rejected by the judges. But I've been on a moombahton groove lately so this would be something I'd like to do. I think exporting our stuff as stems works best, it's agnostic to the DAW/editing software we choose. You can upload them to a file sharing service like Bitshare or Box.net. Just PM me the link. In the meantime I can upload what I've tried to do on Soundcloud.
  8. Sounds a lot better. The instruments have more room, it certainly doesn't sound as muddy and crowded as before. After listening to the source tune that you have really taken a lot of the original source and just sampled it here. Although it you didn't do a bad job with it, having that many probably makes this too conservative of a remix for OCR. But the idea is great though and the genre works well for the adaptation. I would like to do a bit of a collab if you don't mind. I've attempted tried to re-create the remix by using original instruments to re-arrange the track instead of sampling loops.
  9. Damn, I was hoping to be the one to break OCR's moombah cherry Ok, I don't know a lot about the source so I just listened to it. I believe the sampled parts sound good, but they are too quiet next to the synth instrument stabs. Also everything sound either centered or panned hard left/right so it sounds like things are mixed oddly and doesn't make the track sound very "full", that includes the bass especially. Beat percussion sounds nice, and all the instruments are good and have their place, but they could be mixed in better. Keep working at it
  10. The Journeyman Project Turbo! would go great in this project. There's only a few tracks here and there, but I think this one rocks the most.
  11. Nice remix here, the source material doesn't change much yet the drums still manage to have a very uninterrupted, "dancey" flow to them. Usually electronica remixes have to sacrifice one for the other. The drums also remind me of the Ada's Groove remix, they have the same feel and prominence. Hope your future remixes are just as fast paced and fun!
  12. I can understand why this synth would be off-putting to most, but I know this exact synth was lifted off a drum & bass track and I can't remember what it was called now... BTW Rockos if you still want to collaborate, I have already actually tried remixing this CT track a while ago but never got it public. It feel that it's an overlooked track of CT surprisingly. Still drum & bass but it's different sounding enough from yours. Just don't know how long I can spend working on it... it's sweltering hot in my main computer room and I don't like staying there for long in this weather
  13. Ah crap, I didn't update the link to the new remix! As soon as I read "loop I've heard in FL" I realized you were talking about the old one! Listen again, the link and remix has changed, and it's much different sounding.
  14. This thread was DOA, huh. There's been a change of plans, anyway. I have been working on an new remix of Inner Quarters, ThaSauce version will not be the one I'll submit here. So see the first post for updates.
  15. Will this be done soon? The amount of ground you already cover seems about right.
  16. Wow, there's some crazy mad sampling in this. There's nothing else that can be said that has been said already regarding improvements. My biggest gripe is that the drums need more punch in the low end. Incidentally there's a lot more breakbeat than actual dubstep But I don't mind, as it's so packed full of energy. I actually think you should kick that up a notch with a 4-on-the-floor beat towards the end. There's not much else you can do, it's already a pretty stellar track.
  17. I'm really starting to like Anti-Syne's remixes as well. There's a raw, under-processed feel to the electronic music he makes but it comes together well. Those pads that slide in really set the groove for me. I did have some difficulty catching on to the source, but the source was simple enough already.
  18. Source: Remix: Dracula's Servants I made a somewhat glitch-hop remix of Inner Quarters, which is one of my most favorite BGM from the game. It's almost done, from start to end, gotta sprinkle on some counter melodies here and there. So if 3:16 sounds a tad empty, that's why.
  19. The beats totally rock it for me. I think it has some great ideas, although the samples are obviously not very polished. It seems like the percussion is doing its own thing and has an overindulgent "throw everything including the sink" programming with instruments- long before this idea got popular with a lot of electro house and dubstep stuff. Although it goes too far in some spots (change-ups could be tighter and less jarring) it's still pretty fun and ambitious stuff for the day.
  20. It's a breakbeat remix in the works, and actually is a facelift from an older Hsien-ko remix of a different (electronic) style. But I wanted to re-do it when the last project just became too busy and also didn't like where it was going. I kept the fun and upbeat nature of the original but added some chord changes otherwise to change up the mood. There's some filler that needs adding to- 2:37 to 3:10 is an all original section. Also I snuck in a small bit of a Commander Keen song, on a whim just because it sounded good http://tindeck.com/listen/jbsx http://soundcloud.com/ccricers/lei2-4/s-XExPI Original source: (I recommend Tindeck to hear this one, the compression there is a bit better)
  21. Amazing work, guys! All the instruments pretty much fall into place with the theme. Just my nitpicks: The piano sounds too dry in some parts. Also Tuesday's vocals could be a tad louder. The aggressiveness in the tone seems to call for it. Maybe it can be fixed if you just bring up the mid frequencies.
  22. I was just not aware of that first because your initial advice was more vague. So then my conclusion was correct. Killing frequencies for different parts should be my next step.
  23. Rockos, I'll let you in on something- the growling bass is actually from a free sample pack I took from Loopmasters. I chopped it a bit and placed it strategically on the track. That said, the bass in the second section of the melody is completely written from scratch and with synths I chose and layered. For me I find this way of writing bass parts more interesting than just throwing a wobble LFO on something. Glad everyone generally enjoys it so far. Some good points here, though now I also have to choose between some contradicting ones. Skrypnyk says EQ and mix it to be quieter, Cash says and presence. Wowsers!I've heard some louder, more compressed stuff on Soundcloud produced by the pros, but it's hard to do right without getting everything to run into each other. I guess that's what Skrypnyk means by EQ. So the next step is to individually hard cut frequencies for each instrument I suppose, so I can keep the soundscape dense and not muddy. Arrangement wise I will continue with the top down approach, just adding more of the source for length and then weaving in some original parts and modifying others.
  24. Cool concept. Are you going for a prog house or a Dutch house style? Feels like you want to blend both. I don't listen to a lot of either, but I've listened to enough that I can usually tell the direction it's headed. I can see why Rockos was underwhelmed with the change to the melody. Maybe he was expecting a crazy drop where the notes go all over the place, and then go gradually back into the original melody. Stylistically it could work as Dutch house, but on the other hand a random melody will lose points on arrangement. The synth choices are really good, though, so there are many good arrangement paths you can choose from.
