  1. To GameFAQs I go! Thanks everyone. Also, yeah the title screen music made me all nostalgic in a hurry.
  2. While I can understand how/why this is it always made me wonder why they bother letting you pick stats in the first place. Oh well, in a sense this is better. Less thinking, more grinding.
  3. So apparently I'm way behind but I just learned that Gravity is running an official free-to-play server. I've been off of WoW since before the Cata release but I'm feeling like playing an MMO and sadly Guild Wars 2 isn't out yet. It's been a while since I played RO, but I thought "What he heck?" Anyway, my question is, there's always been a lot of talk about min/maxing stat builds in RO, but is that really necessary? Or can I just level up and build my characters the way I'd like? Will I just make characters completely useless if I do it myself? If it helps, I don't consider myself good at optimizing stats on my own (one of my favorite announcements for Diablo 3 is that you don't handle stat distribution anymore).
  4. Got an email today about a prospective job that would involve moving and changing life in ways that I'm not sure I want to right now. What does this have to do with anything? I'm really in need of some awesome new remix album with ties to my childhood right at this moment to help me through this stressful thinking... stuff. Just sayin'.
  5. An excellent take on "Into the Darkness". Very creepy! And I normally don't like creepy but this is great! Definitely feeling the insanity in every change. Love it and looking forward to hearing more of your mixes.
  6. Have to agree with Sindra. Dear Hollywood: Stop wimping out and CGI'ing costumes and hire a freaking tailor. Also, this is a decent trailer, but I'm afraid my opinion of this movie (even though it seems Reynolds will do a good job) will be slightly lower than normal only because it's obvious Hal Jordan should be played by Nathan Fillion:
  7. I haven't been happy with my XBox Dashboard since I bought a PS3, but maybe it's just me. Huge boxes, few real customization options, ads, ads with video and sound, the idea of being forced to see ads while you scroll up to your Friends list, did I mention the ads? Actually, the one thing I hoped for out of the previous Dashboard update was the ability to browse my games Cover Flow style like you do in the Marketplace. But no, it was just a grey menu. :roll eyes: And I see that hasn't been added in the recent update either. As far as Kinect? Pretty much a non-issue for me, as I'm not getting one any time soon. The Wii burned me out on semi-responsive motion controls.
  8. I've been loving VGM since I first played Super Mario Bros. But the first OST that really blew my mind and has stuck with me ever since was Crystalis (the NES version of course). But one fond memory I have, from FFVI, was walking into the Magitek Research Facility in Vector, hearing Devil's Lab for the first time and putting down my controller to listen for a few minutes. I was in awe. Subsequently, "Kefka's Domain" was my first VGM OST purchase. EDIT: Oh someone mentioned Nintendo Power. I still have my "Play it Loud" OST with selections from Star Fox, Yoshi's Island, A Link to the Past, and a couple others. And it's on my iPhone.
  9. So when I was in elementary school in Reno I remember going to the computer lab once a week to play some educational games on the (epic) Apple IIe computers we had. This was when I was introduced to the wonderful Oregon Trail and Number Munchers. Recently I remembered another old computer game from that era. It may or may not be on the Apple IIe. I don't remember what's it's called or who made it. I only have a very faint memories of it 1) I believe it was a single-screen platformer. 2) The platforms you walked on were made of these little boxes with X's in them. Some of them looked different, and I think those were involved in the whole premise of the game. 3) Knowing me, it was probably some kind of math game, but this isn't necessarily the case. Does that ring a bell for anyone? I hate when this happens because it'll bug me until I find it.
  10. Doesn't add much to the convo but: I love the wallpaper/album art and I'm very much looking forward to the album! Thank you to all involved!
  11. I'm an instrumental acoustic guitar nut. So when I saw on my Facebook page the words "Mega" "Man" "Acoustic" "Guitar" you can bet I clicked on that link as fast as my mouse would let me. I didn't see this coming at ALL. Solo acoustic guitar. No surprise. This track is amazing! One of my favorite OCRemixes hands down.
  12. Oh wow that's amazing. I never noticed that before, but now I hear Elec Man every time I hear that.
  13. I'm really enjoying Castle Crashers myself. I've already finished it with two characters, so we'll see how much longer it can entertain me. The art and animation are epic, the game's engine does exactly what it's meant to do, except when it doesn't (heh, has anyone else been beaten into submission by a flurry of uncountable hits while surrounded by enemies?), and the music isn't bad either, though I think the title theme is the best track (as it's the only one I can remember). Though, does anyone else think that the way you unlock most of the characters is kinda lame? I can't help but think that before I've unlocked them all I'm going to be tired of running through the game. Overall I give Castle Crashers two thumbs way way up. Between Braid, Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Castle Crashers this was an epic month for XBLA. Now if only Mega Man 9 will hurry up.
  14. It's funny, the first time I listened to it I couldn't stand the vocal part so I stopped the track. Several days later I came back to it, and to be honest the first verse is my favorite. It has a sound to it that I just like, not to mention the lyrics are really good. I've been a casual fan of Game Over since hearing Cataclysmic Clash and Little Mac's Confession. Those are some great tracks, and I feel that this one is right up there with them. Maybe it's my extremely poor sound set up on this system but I can't notice any huge drop in sound quality. Over all what's important is that the track rocks and is an enjoyable listen. Excellent job GO. My biggest "complaint" about this track is the same complaint I have about all vocal remixes I like... I remember the lyrics too well and find myself singing them when playing the games or listening to the OSTs.
  15. Excellent mix. I'm lovin' every bit of it. Being the huge fan of the Beatles that I am, I am really into that bit at 2:32. Not only is it reminiscent of the band, but it gives this mix a good change of pace and keeps it from ever getting stale. The guitar, the violin, nothing much to say there other than "Wow." Both sound out of this world and the mixing of the two comes out great. Bravo to all who were involved.
  16. I was thinking you could just hook up the DS's headphone jack to a line in or mic jack on the soundcard and record directly. It may not be the highest quality but I think that a decent amount of post-recording work could refine the sounds into something sounding like OCR-quality. I've been trying to get myself into trying a remix but I just never get around to it. It's one of those, "I want to do it, but I don't have any ideas," kind of things for me. Still, I think it would be interesting to see what people could come up with using Electroplankton as one source (out of many).
  17. That's really the only thing I really wish was different. Baby Bowser is cool and all... but he's no Ludwig von Koopa, or Lemmy Koopa. Be that as it may, Mario 64 was the game that forever defined the genre of 3D Action/Adventure. Whether it was leaving the Mario tradition or not. In a way you can almost watch Nintendo learn how to make the transition from 2D to 3D over time. Mario 64 was a decent transition. LoZ:OoT was a slightly better transtion, and so on... all the way up until Metroid Prime (which, ironically Nintendo didn't develop) which IMO signified the greatest transition from a 2D series to a 3D one. And for the record, I loved Mario 64 to death too. The first time I picked up that controller and moved him around the castle grounds was probably one of the happiest video game moments of my childhood. But Super Mario Sunshine, I just couldn't get into that at all.
  18. My brother was asking me about Electroplankton the other day. I had a hell of a time trying to describe it to him, so I refered him to some online video review of the game. But while we were talking about it I got to wondering. Before the DS was released I remember seeing a conference that involved a famous (apparently) DJ who had been given Electroplankton to play around with and mix something to present for Nintendo at the conference. I thought it sounded pretty good considering what he had been given. So then I thought, of all the places on the net devoted to mixing music, wouldn't OCR be the place you'd be most likely to find people doing mixes and attempting to incorporate bits and pieces from Electroplankton? I mean, OCR is video game remix heaven... and Electroplankton is a music game... cha-ching! So, I'm curious. Has anyone here made mixes using Electroplankton in any way, shape, or form? I know it would be near impossible to make a full mix using it, but I'm sure you could incorporate some of those little games into a full-blown remix.
  19. Thanks for reminding me that I need to pick up SMW for my DS (well, GBA, but yeah). I loved that game. Probably my favorite of the series. NSMB is really fun too, and I've started to find levels that are giving me a good amount of challenge. A welcome addition to the series IMO. Anyway, more on topic. Elite Beat Agents needs to hit the shelves a little quicker. The hype I've heard for the past several months about Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is starting to drive me crazy. For quite some time I've wanted to try out any DDR style game. I secretly thought the games looked like a blast. I was planning on getting DDR Mario Mix but I heard a lot of negatives about it, EBA looks like a great little rhythm game.
  20. I didn't really go into playing NSMB with an expectation of having the genre redefined for me. The title told me (long before the game was out) that it wasn't going to happen. As far as genre redefinition, I'm sure Super Mario Galaxy will have plenty of that. I specifically bought NSMB for that classic, side-scrolling, 2D feel. And I'm not disappointed in the least. Is it easy? Yeah. But it's not alone. Honestly it seems the days of challenging (but not insane) games are behind us anyway. If a game does come along that isn't mindnumbingly easy, it's Ninja Gaiden. Any middle ground that once existed is gone. Also, I have the distinct impression that this game is really only easy for those of us who've been addicted to the series since it's inception. Of course, I guess that is precisely the group it's pitched at. All-in-all it's going to be different for everyone. I listened to Gamespot's video review. They mentioned that some levels were short, they mentioned it was a bit easy. I wasn't sold until I played the demo at Walmart. Then I was hooked. And hey, if nothing else, it certainly gives me a break from being snaked to death on Mario Kart.
  21. I rarely comment, but I wanted to put in my $0.02 here. The mix itself sounds pretty good to me as a nice simple electronica sort of sound. But the biggest thing about this mix for me is the background. Using one program, FL, one can make some quality remixes. I've been wanting to try my hand at remix making, but to be honest it's very overwhelming. Even glancing at the "Remixing for free" topic in the forums leads me to a long list of words that I don't know (even though I do have a decent knowledge of music). A list of free software is nice, but it would be good to know what they are all for too. Anyway, the mix is great, and I hope the fact that FL was the only software package used will help people like myself and my brother (who is also interested in remixing) take that huge first leap into the world of remixing.
