fl 4.1 was quite useable on a windows ME system with a 950mhz processor and 512mb of ram. an i5 m-XXX implies you're on a laptop, which also implies slower hard drive response rates and slower-than-normal performance of memory and CPU. just to let you know =) you've got enough power under the hood to do your job, though. one thing you DON'T need - unless you're recording stuff - is a sound card. this is a common misconception. if you're recording stuff, you'll need an audio interface, but if you're just writing music with FL Studio you don't need anything extra. use the money on good synths and all that.

so, i reviewed the score that xenon sent me. some stuff stuck out. we'll need the rhythm section to record first, of course. a fake kit won't really work unless it's meticulously velocitized, because dynamics have to start back there. beyond that? we desperately will need the trumpets to record first out of all the primary groups, before the trombone and saxes. there's enough questions regarding the sax articulations already, but most of them will be solved if i hear a good trumpet lead explaining what's going on. speaking of trumpets, we don't have a lead player yet. i'm feeling that whoever does the lead trumpet should do at least parts 1 and 2, to set the style right away. ok, that's all i got for now.

send me some sax parts. i'm not much of a soloist, like i said, so maybe you'll want to take any solos needed, bobby. but i can do alto and bari and everything else.

i'd prefer normal difficulty.

a good idea would be to do one track as a test. if it works - without a shit-ton of issues - then we can keep going. i'd be happy to coordinate if need be. i'm not aware of an OCR project based on song style rather than soundtrack or something.

biomes won't develop if we just get in now. the whole point is that they're only on new chunks. naw, we need to wait for the ten days until the patch before we can really dig into the new world. also, i tested the theory that lots of tnt is bad. it daisy-chains pretty darn well.

i'm totally planning on dongifying whatever spawn area we have, as i always have done =)

i haven't heard what other biomes are going to be around, but i'm thinking that i could do worse than a snow-covered cottage in the hills =)

i think a reroll is in order. once slash has cleared the room for the creeper temple, no more hacks - no diamond-encrusted buildings, no tnt duping, no anything. we just play the game the way it's meant to be played. it really makes the game kind of stupid if you just dupe the shit out of everything and don't mine anything. i know it made it kind of dumb for me, at least. edit: i haven't been back to spawn in a few days. did someone nuke my house again? =\

i'm an if-i-have-to guy, as well. i played lead alto most of my college career, which surprisingly has minimal solo opportunities thanks to the prevalence of tenor solos.

no guitar if possible, i think. it'd be best to lay down the drum track, first, complete with fills and dynamics as much as possible. record instruments, focusing on dynamics and group articulation as much as possible (trumpets would likely have to record first to ensure that the lead trumpet is actually leading and not just on top). then get comping piano and string bass in, edit drums as needed. once all that's done, record solos over the (now mostly finished) accompaniment. i don't think it could be done in any other way, honestly.

i can cover all alto sax, tenor sax, and clarinet parts, and i can do bari sax and bass clarinet if i can borrow instruments from on-campus. i've got a masters in saxophone performance. do i qualify? i have hacked around with an upright bass in the past, as well. i agree it'd be really, really tough to pull off. likely, the only way it'd work is if the same person records ALL instruments in their section. like, one person does all trumpets, etc. there's a level of accuracy in regards to articulation and intonation that would be desperately important as well.
