hey, i just saw this. zircon, it isn't the behavior of all usb drives - just the ones that offer power-saving tech (check out the caviar green drives for an example). this IS a majority of them, but a slight one at best. there's a really easy way to make it stop doing that - just break open the case and install the drive in your desktop (if you're not using a laptop, that is). the procedure that powers it down is in the firmware of the casing, so the drive itself is 'salvageable'. or you could buy another external case for it and put the hd in that.

benge are good trumpets for a student or someone not playing professionally. a friend of mine picked it up as a secondary (he's a band director now), and loved it. would you sell the stand seperately? for how much?

dafydd has put in the first wip for ballad of the windfish. it's pretty solid. he will not fully claim it until it's mostly done, though, so if anyone else is interested feel free to submit a mix.

yeah. they're not really anything super crazy, but they're nice and not overbearing. i got the ct zeal one featured in the article and that's by background currently.

some guys hacked up some retro gaming wallpapers. chrono trigger, several smb games, earthworm jim, ff6(3), and dkc are among the ones included. here's the article. there's a link to desktopgaming and the wallpapers through there.

p4 wasn't awful, it was just rushed out into production. it was pretty killer at the time (except for the ridiculous amount of heat it generated).

assassin's creed was a lot of fun, and it's old enough that it should be cheap now. it's relatively repetative, but it's still really enjoyable. burnout paradise (at least for the 360) has an enormous amount of upgrade-based extras that came free with it - and it's super cheap as well. dead space is an excellent survival-horror game (not my favorite genre), and mirror's edge is really intense and enjoyable (if a bit short...wait till it comes down in price a tad). dmc4 is great if you liked the other dmc games, eternal sonata is awesome for what it is (a really quirky rpg), and far cry 2 is excellent if you like sandbox-based fps games.

i guess that vga's got a bandwidth limitation, then...i'll try to find some info on that online, i've never heard that before. of course, it could have just been a crappy cable too.

mgs4, uncharted, bioshock (if you don't have it for 360 or pc...it's way cheaper on either). killzone 2 once it comes out. pretty much everything above an 80 is decent in some way, although i'd suggest 360 for most of the crossplatform games rather than a ps3.

dude, you fucking need to get yourself a better computer. seriously - ram's only 20$ a gig currently! you've GOTTA have room on your board to update at least a little bit - get a couple gigs more of ram and a decent video card, at least - that's like 120$ total, and if you got a lesser card, it'd be like 90$. can you afford that?
