OK, a new 172MB 7zip file of the maps.
You can get a free decompressor if you don't have one (WinRAR also decompresses 7zip).
-
Damn Powerlord, you're quick. I had just started that download...but now it's gone.
Could you please try to put it up quickly? Me and Hank/Martian/the really good sniper dude are on REALLY bad internet...we're probably going to need a day or so to download the .zip.
The problem with that download was that they were all .bz2 files inside, and I'm not sure if you'd need to uncompress all of those as well. I'm creating a new 7zip file that should be smaller right now.
-
I get that even if I try again.
I just sent you a group invite... we'll see if that works.
-
As for the custom mapcycle so far, how about this for a preliminary cycle:
cp_devilsbrew_1_3
ctf_2fort_night2_b2
pl_mill_b5
cp_follower_rc1
pl_swift_final
tc_meridian_b5
cp_pacman_wtf_normal
cp_roundhouse_1_2d
pl_waste_b4
ctf_waterhole_b4
cp_yukon_rc
cp_industrial_b6
pl_woodland_b4
Before I forget, I have a 172MB 7zip file of all of those for easy download.
Also, fixed the typos in the maplist above and in the server maplist.
-
Wait... can't the person that created the original one just change some settings or something? That way, there would be no need to rejoin, and you could stop people from spamming the message thing.
Or is a Steam group really limited in terms of control?
What Darkesword said, plus only the group owner can change permissions... which makes sense, otherwise the officers could just grant themselves permissions normally restricted to just the owner.
-
Thanks for the invite Powerlord -- also, the convo above is funny as hell, despite the problems it caused.
I tried to invite people from the old OCR group list, but it won't let me.
It may be an anti-spam measure, making it so either:
- Only the owner can invite people not on their friends list.
- Members can't invite people not on your friends list for a certain amount of time after the group is formed.
- Only the owner can invite people not on their friends list.
-
Not anymore apparently. Too bad, I was hoping to get some lulz.
Yes, I basically went through and deleted them all.
Most of them were just the same thing over and over again.
P.S. For some reason, my mail from the forums is being delayed, so my usual "reply within 3 minutes if I'm at my PC" isn't happening.
-
According to atmuh you could have just made it so only officers can post announcements???
Species8472 is the only person who can adjust that.
This whole incident started when I found out that anyone could post announcements on the group and stupidly told atmuh about it.
I had just sent a message to Species8472 asking if (s)he could add a few more of us so we could post events and things, when I'd noticed I had a Post Announcements button.
-
I'm sorry, I apologize for that.
Since this is bound to come up at some point in the future I'll short circuit it now.
I screwed up.
His posts were a grand olde joke. I'm sure he found it just as funny when I blocked all further communication from him.
-
What was wrong with the old one?
It has about 100 new announcements from the last two or so hours.
-
-
......DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT.......
Yes, and now we're all paying for it.
On the plus side, I'm going to schedule some events.
Don't bother until it's locked down, as anyone can delete them.
Edit: We're abandoning the existing group and forming a new one.
-
So, yeah, it turns out that anyone can post anything to the OCRemix Steam group.
I made the mistake of mentioning this to someone I probably shouldn't have.
-
So, atmuh pointed out an interesting server mod to me.
Essentially it lets you bind a button to switch between alltalk and team talk.
I'm tempted to install it and try it out.
-
I was once medic and trying to find a decent target to heal. I looked at the class breakdown of my team and it waassss: 2 snipers, 4 scouts, 3 spies, and a pyro. A class change quickly ensued.
I even said the other day "I'm the only damage dealer on my team? WTF?" in voice chat.
(I was playing Soldier at the time)
-
I've seen 5 once. I was lol'ing so damn much.
Actually, there was one exception: When we had an entire team be spies. Was pretty funny.
-
lol, fair enough.
I, complain more about no medic. I would take a shitty medic helping our team over a 4th sniper any day.
I have yet to ever see 4 spies on one team. I don't even play as one if there's 2 or more (or 1 if it's a small team).
-
More people complain about no medics!!!
No, really, they don't. Just listen to voice chat/read text chat.
You hear about it way more if there are bad medics.
Then again, I get a lot of downtime to read/listen as a Spy.
-
Medic is good for starting out because you can follow behind most classes and get a feel for the maps, and how the different classes play.
Anyway, I finally got my new box set up, but I have to download TF2 from scratch so I won't be able to try it out until tomorrow, unless copying the Steam folder over works, in which case it'll be about 2 hours anyway because the copy of the Steam folder I have is about 2 months old (the drive Steam is installed on is still being used as the boot drive in the old machine, but I have a backup which is currently a secondary partition on my current boot drive).
I'm not sure if copying it works (can't see why it wouldn't...), but Steam does have a backup option. Only problem is that it's a bit on the slow side. Still, it also lets you create CD/DVD images of your Steam games, so you can burn them for later!
Edit: I lolled at someone who swore because I managed to kill them as a Heavy when they were trying to circle-strafe me as a Scout.
-
don't listen to powerlord only play engineer with me
The problem with starting out as Medic, Engineer, or Spy is that you should observe the inter-class dynamics first.
The best way to do THAT is on the front line.
I suppose you could play as Scout to observe that, but then you tend to be ahead of the main action... until you run into enemy sentry guns.
-
I played TF2 for the first time last night on this server and I was yelled at for not being a medic ;_;
I suggest ignoring them and starting as one of the offensive classes (Soldier, Heavy, or Pyro).
Unless you're really good at headshots, then I'd recommend Sniper.
Once you get a feel for the game, then try the more unique classes.
-
THAT'S WHAT THAT IS!?
UGH. See... I've always assumed that it was because my computer was garbage and F***ed up every now and then. (not that my computer isnt garbage)
It's SO much fun when you're playing spy and that happens. SO much fun. annnnd BACKSTAB WITH MY SAPPER.
Actually, that's what finally caused me to give up yesterday. >:/
As far as I know, it's lost packets.
-
I'm not sure why, but I was getting a lot of lost packets when I was on last night.
So, even with a ping of 30 or so, the game was unplayable.
You can tell if you're getting lost packets if you start rubber-banding or you can't change weapons (it instantly switches you back to the old one).
-
Here's the file list. Baha added a bunch of new maps yesterday.

OK, I know I haven't really played any of the Wrath content... but who exactly is that human king guy? Last time I checked, the human King (of Stormwind) was the kid...
