My problem is with having to do that in the first place. Getting a new computer all set up like you want is already a bitch and a half, and they'd just be adding to my grief. It has nothing to do with how amiable or expedient the helpdesk is, it's the principle of the thing. Anyway, the method is just there to deter piracy, which is a hopeless endeavor in the first place since there are probably cracks already available. @ Yoozer, SGX: I dunno why, but it seems like you guys are trying to make me feel like I'm in the wrong with the idea that if I buy something, it belongs to me forever. Keeping totally legal with Ableton seems like buying a car, but only being able to drive it twice, and then calling them every time to allow me start it up after that. I dunno why the honest folk have it harder than the people who use cracks, in this situation. I guess the best thing to do is to buy the software legally, then crack it. At least the devs get their money that way. Though Ableton is asking too much for Live considering it's just a DAW. Maybe they should combat piracy by lowering the price instead? p.s. this debate doesn't really affect me at all since I am a proud owner of a brand new Renoise! (￣▽￣)

I used winamp for many a year, but recently switched to XMPlay. Think of it like a lightweight Winamp 2.xx with a useable library [tag stuff regardless of filetype] and the same amount of playback functionality. Well actually it's better, because the default music module playback doesn't suck goats, and accurate mod playback is something I need.

You could always find a cheapo midi-capable keyboard from the late '80s/early '90s for like $50 or less. Can't get much cheaper than that. Actually, I got a few keyboards for free 'cause they were tossed out by the school my dad works at. Most people don't get so lucky though.

Assuming you can't find Stanton XXI's like I have [you can't, they were discontinued in like 1980], look into AKGs or Sennheisers. They can get expensive but they're sturdy enough [at least in my experience, the AKGs are] and worth the cost. Save up $100 and you should find some decent ones

That was true for M4 as well, but it's only natural. If you post only on OCR, why would you want to meet tumult or prozax, et al? It's the other way around too. Though I try to be as ubiquitous as possible

Mine? The internet. If you listen to my songs you understand why. I think it's fair to say that when it comes to music, I treat the internet like an instrument. Countless sampling on my part from random things found on the internet, like those GI Joe PSAs, talking flash advertisements, stupid youtube bloggers... This is usually what happens. My music is based on stealing free stuff most of the time.

There's always something that can happen out of nowhere, regardless of your computer's history. Someone might spill beer on your laptop? Your hard drive suddenly clicks itself to death? In this case, it might be good to have a backup system.

Not enough $100+ trips to Taco Bell. Or Dr. Claw. Pretty nuts though.

Getting a track on a compilation cd for Waerloga Records back in 2004 was my first big achievement. The CD is called "A Tribute to Uglakh Vol. 1" The next thing I'm rather proud of is an ansiform release. of course, it's an anonymous netlabel so I'm not telling you which one it is :3! Anime Chipdisk Vol. 1. I even got guest artists [tenemis, coda, nobuyuki] and coda wrote a cool player for the tunes [just because not everyone has XMPlay like they should]. Also, I'm pretty proud to have been involved in the Cave Story Remix Project, even though I don't like half the songs. That and having an OC remix got me a lot of exposure, even though it's not a very notable OCR release, it's my most listened to song according to last.fm. I should also mention the long running #soundtempest OHCs [one hour compo], CompoSTs, that I've been hosting for a long time. Actually, I haven't had one in a while, but compos are one of my favorite things to participate in
