  1. Hey guys and gals, I've seen some awesome art in here and I'm currently looking for someone who would want to do some artwork for me. I'm looking for a logo or banner to use on some of my pages, which are oriented at VG remixes. My style is mostly EDM and I'm a fan of the Square-enix games, as well as Zelda and other "adventure-rpg's". If you need pointers on my work, look up my pages in my profile. I don't know if this kind of posting is allowed, so I'm hoping this won't be a problem. Cheers!
  2. Thanks! I'll do a quick mop-up on the suggestions made by @timaeus222 earlier, since I think I know what to fix. I'll leave the piano, since it's been the backbone of the remix from version 1 till now and I have no idea on what should be replacing it. Again, thanks again guys, for your feedback. Much appreciated. Edit: Submitted.
  3. Thanks again Timaeus222 for your excellent feedback. Here's some things I could do: I'm going to delve deeper into my "blurriness" to see if I can make it even crispier. I could also try to change the piano part to a synth ore something, I don't know how that turns out, so I'll experiment. The strings at 1:54 and up might need some TLC, especially timing-wise. The lead arpeggio might be a little boring, I agree. I'll experiment a bit with variations to see how that pans out. I'm trying to get a better grip at mastering my track with FL Studio's Maximus. So far, I'm only getting more clipping instead of less :p.
  4. I have no idea why no one commented on this before. I'm not really the go-to guy for orchestral "remixes", but I have to say, this is pretty good. Especially if this is your seond remix. I like your dynamics and writing. The horn section coming in @1:15 and the subtle pizzicato strings @1:28 add to the dynamics even more. The snare @3:45 could use a bit of volume to bring it out more. In all, it's very recognisable ("The Oath" is one of the best tracks in that game, together with "the landing at Dollet" imo) but it might be a bit too close to the source. You asked about the fake-ness and "unfortunately, peanutbutter", the whole composition still needs more "humanization", if you get what I mean. You might 'up the tempo' a bit, since the original is faster too. Maybe you could vary the tempo throughout the song, to emphasise it's parts? Again, what do I know? I'm a four-to-the-floor kind of remixer. Hope you'll get a bit better feedback than mine anyways. Good luck!
  5. As usual, you're right. The 'strange hiss' is the saw pad I'm using to sidechain with the kick. I somehow messed up my automation on that and it's totally out of control. However, adding a slow lowpass fadeout and cutting the 18Khz range off with an EQ makes it less evil on the ears until we're near the 2:00 ~ 2:22 mark when the drop hits. I'm replacing the last upload I made with this newer version, so no comparison this time. Oh and I'm not sure if I still have that '09 version. It's basically the same as the '13 version anyway.
  6. That's what I wanted to hear. Thanks! I'll get right on it. Edit: changed songs to public. (doh)
  7. I'm wondering, are you guys even seeing these remixes?
  8. Thanks Timmaeus22! You have no idea how much your comments picks me up. I recently bought a pair of studio monitors and wow, does that help identifying clutter in your mix! I'll see if I can do something about those transitions (as you probably guessed, transitioning isn't what I'm good at) and maybe a bit more polishing around the edges. I think 2016 might be the year this sucker gets submitted to the judges. Edit: I've upped a new version for you to review. I've tried to clean it up as much as possible, added a sub kick at the 2:22 drop to give it that extra kick. Found out that a few synths were linked to the wrong FX channels which made the mix extremely muddy. Had a hard time getting the dynamics right while adding compression to the whole, but hey... That's the learning process. Hope this is what you were looking for Timmaeus22. And to all other people listening to this: please comment! I really need ALL and ANY feedback. Thank you.
  9. No, I did not abandon this project. It took a whole lot of TLC (and a complete new DAW setup) but I've edited and mostly rebalanced the whole. I hope it's a much cleaner experience now. I have to admit, my mastering skills suck, but I tried my hardest at getting this thing cleaned up. At least the volume levels are in check and it doesn't clip anymore. I guess this is pretty much it. If this track gets enough positive feedback, I'll send it in for review. (wow, took me almost 5 years) Almost forgot: Thanks in advance!
  10. Hi OCR ppl! I'd like some pointers on my newest WIP and, I give you a choice in which way to go on this. I'm in the process of remixing FF7's Anxious Hearts, but I can't really make a choice between two versions, so I thought I'd let you guys decide! Please let me know which version has the best approach. or It's still in it's early stages, so I can change mostly everything. Thanks in advance. NeoS
  11. Wow, a trance remix. Ok, first of all, get more rhythm going. Use more percussion or cymbals/hi-hats. Hell, even a loop would make it less static. Secondly, I have to agree with Flexstyle on the dated trance style. I don't know if you were going for that, but if you add a string or two during the main riffs and shift it to broaden the stereo spectrum, you'll get a better feel, imo. Maybe even an arpeggio or stutter to emphasise the Trance genre. Lastly, production-wise, this is pretty solid. Sounds are good, FX are nice, builds are a bit simplistic but will get you there. Overall, a good piece.
  12. Wow. Thank you Timmaeus22! Now that's some constructive criticism. I have to agree with almost all of your comments, especially with the mastering. My DAW i used to work on crapped on me, so now I'm working on a laptop with headphones. :/ Not ideal, but it works. I'll plug my laptop on my amp and start working from there. To be honest, I never ever got any project to sound clear and dynamic, since my mastering skills suck. Perhaps I should really work on those. Funny you're saying I should add snare rolls, as I was trying to avoid them. I find them cheesy and overused mostly. However, one or two could add more energy to the track, especially with the buildups. About the lead arpeggio, it's too much huh? That's probably also because of the cluttered sounding tracks, and it could be toned down a little. (less reverb and filter it a bit) I'm really happy with your review, since it really points me to the things that bothered me from the beginning, but I never could put my finger on it. I'll take your advice and see if I can fit it into a new version. p.s. You seem to know an awful lot by pointing me to examples by Zircon and bLiNd. These guys are great and push FL Studio to the max.
  13. Hi again! A few years ago, I submitted an older version of this track to the judges, which didn't got accepted. However, they asked for a resubmission and I never actually did. Here's the judges' review from back then: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=23442 Source material: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g25QXnhVijQ First judged version: https://soundcloud.com/neos2k7/eclipse-of-hearts-2013-edit After this remix got rejected, two years passed. In the meantime I did some minor edits and tweaks to the remix and thanks to some great feedback from Timaeus222 I've polished it up to what it is now. See my latest post for the last revision.
  14. lol, yeah, that's what I kinda aimed at. Energetic as hell. Thanks for the comment SnappleMan.
  15. Hey folks, It's been a while since I last even been here. I realised I have been neglecting electronic music for a VERY long time. Anyway, it's good to see there are still guys around from days when I used to be a very active member of this community. Oh, before I forget, I have something for you to listen to. Maybe some of you have already heard it before, I just wanted to share it and hopefully get some reviews on it too. Beware, it's very short, and very close to the original. I felt the original is just too epic to mix up, so I added what I thought more epicness. http://snd.sc/118HvGS Cheers, NeoS
  16. I did a short demo. If any of likes this, I'll continue to work on it. http://snd.sc/H0tMtG
  17. It's been a while since I've posted on OCR, but I just can't imagine this project doesn't have Tetris. I hope I'm wrong though. Otherwise I'd be obliged to do something about that and fire up my DAW.
  18. Thanks for re-adding my bonus track, but I really meant the collab with ambient for Pyramid. That was a finished track.
  19. Wow, you even cut our finished track Katie? I hope it's not cut because of the quality... :s
  20. Cool choice. If you're going for that, I guess i'll have to step back, since i've already got one of the tracks done and my first take on this theme wasn't up to par. Can't wait to hear yours!
  21. Might I point out that Unknown World is taken? I'll see if I can improve it up to your standards. Also, great to see this project taking off.
  22. Damn, it took me almost 10 minutes to find this thread... This project needs a boost. Maybe it should be advertised more OUTSIDE OCR too. About remixing for this project: I've already done 2 remixes for this and am willing to do one more if I find the time. I hope this project does see the light of day sometime. Mono, could you try and get the first post updated a bit? I sent my 2nd remix to Rexy (and probably you) AGES ago and it's still on the Untaken Songs list.
  23. I've submitted this track on Januari 22, 2009. Hope it'll get in the qeue soon...
