  1. Nope. That's what you call a rail-shooter game (because you essentially move along a fixed mount as if on a monorail or something). I mentioned it in a couple of my post. It ties with S&M Hit the Road for my number two Lucasarts spot, but in all honesty, it has probably the second best story line of any adventure game I have ever played. The King's Quest series (in it's entirety) would probably count for the best despite the simple fact that the games are great but not nearly as fun as, say, Full Throttle (which is a complete and total hoot if you ask me).
  2. I definitely hear you on this one. The Area 88 / UN Squadron soundtrack is pretty tight. It'd be nice to hear a number of the tunes. Or perhaps some sort of medley features the story, briefing, and/or boss tunes (all three). Personally, my favorite tracks and ones I'd like to hear remixed the most are the Briefing tune and, even more so, The Minks. It's cool and yet modestly pleasant both at the same time.
  3. Didn't know about that thread (even though looking at the date, I think VGM was doing one around the same time if I remember right). If I'd known I might've posted this there, but I'm not really fond of necrobumping, so probably not. Thanks for the link though.
  4. I must've missed this before, but this reminds me of some short time ago when John Ramero compiled that group of 30 or so unreleased Doom midis for the first game and most of 'em were Slayer, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, etc. This is what lost me any leftover respect I had for Bobby Prince after the bliss of Commander Keen. If you want to hear what I'm talking about, head over to this page. Here's a list of known ripoffs: un08: StormTroopers of Death - Sargent D un12: StormTroopers of Death - Phi Alpha Nu un13: StormTroopers of Death - Milano Mosh un14: StormTroopers of Death - Phi Alpha Nu (again?) un15: Dio - Holy Diver? (coincidentally, part of un15 was used in a Blake Stone AOG tune which reeks of the Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song") un16: Stormtroopers of Death - Speak English or Die un17: Slayer - Rain in Blood un18: Slayer - Silent Scream un19: Alice in Chains - We Die Young un20: Alice in Chains - Man in the Box un21-f: Stone Temple Pilots - Dead and Bloated un23: Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing un28: Alice in Chains - Them Bones un31: Soundgarden - Rusty Cage un32: Soundgarden - Outshined un36: Soundgarden - Slaves & Bulldozers un37: Judas Priest - Leather Rebel un39: Alice in Chains - Rain When I Die un41: Alice in Chains - Rooster un42: Alice in Chains - Junkhead un43: Alice in Chains - Dirt un45: Alice in Chains - God Smack un46: Alice in Chains - Angry Chair un51: Pantera - Walk un52: Slayer - South of Heaven [edit]Hot dang. I just realized what un36 is - Soundgarden's "Slaves & Bulldozers". I'm gonna update the other site if I can. That makes three Soundgarden songs now! Yeah, I'm pretty ticked.
  5. Holy smokes! I can't believe I forgot that one! Man do I feel ashamed. Which reminds me, there are a few others I spaced on at the time.... *goes back and fixes (link)* Full Throttle is still my favorite though, with Sam & Max Hit the Road, Space Quest II & III, and The Dig all tied for second. After that would be the Phantasmagoria games and King's Quest V & VI. I just failed to mention that before.
  6. With George Lucas co-writing the story, you almost have to wonder if the movie will be worth going to. Then again, since Spielberg's still at the helm, it should at the very least be better than any of the recent Star Wars prequel trilogy (pretty much a given). I think I'm still gonna go into it with lowered expectations though... just in case.... I am, howevered, quite saddened that some favorite characters won't be making a return. Sean Connery turned down an appearance so I don't expect to see the senior Jones in the flic. Unfortunately, I haven't heard any mention of Short Round at all. I have heard that there's some other good cameos though. I just hope they don't have any botched references in this movie. Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade were great movies, but there were still too many contextual and referential screw ups. Of course, the action makes up for all of that. Here's to hoping that KotCS keeps the story straight without any weird "altered history" this time.
  7. I haven't seen it yet, but I have been curious. Trouble is that the previews really didn't look all that great to me (despite being a fair fan of the original), so I've been dubious about the matter. I suppose the answer to this question shall settle it for me... overall and by comparison, is it about the same as, say, the recent Transformers movie? Better? Worse? About the same? I just need a close approximation/consensus.
  8. What? What? There are plenty of decent remixes on the site. But yeah, there could definitely be more Descent remixes though. I'd second that.
  9. Even if I've said it before (maybe not here though), I'll still say it again - I've always assumed that Elec Man's stage was most likely based on 38 Special's "If I'd Been the One." The first time I heard this on radio, I said, "OMG! It's Elec Man!" Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tknMjFKKm5c Far from breaking precedent though, the Mega Man series continues to ape the classics. It's fairly obvious where Neon Tiger's stage comes from. This is "My Michelle" by Guns 'n Roses: *WARNING* - Obscene Content Ahead (this is GnR after all...) - *WARNING* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkVudkWC0k4 [edit]I just noticed this. There's a boatload of musical references, esp. in the original Japanese: Rock / Rockman - speaks for itself Roll - not by herself, but combined with Rock... well... Rush - maybe not, but it's also the name of a band... coincidence? Blues - known as Protoman in the US Duo - well, not directly, but suspiciously close to "duet"; same roots anyway Forte - known as Bass in the US Gospel - known as Treble in the US Beat - bird from MM5 for NES Kalinka - Russian folk song reference Punk - from MMIII for GB Ballade - from MMIV for GB Tango - the cat from MMV for GB Reggae - a robotic pet bird of Wily's; serves as a weapon for Forte in some games Alia - doesn't seem like it at first, but the proper Japanese-related spelling would be "Aria" (no L's) Serenade - character from the BN series Harp - a character from the Star Force series; known as Lyra in the US, both are the names of instruments Solo - a character from the Star Force series Phantom - a character from the Star Force series; at times resembles a character from Phantom of the Opera, a famous theatre and musical production (based on the book) There's probably more, but I just can't think of 'em at the current time.
  10. Well you've already gotten the Maniac Mansion games obviously. Let see what else: Series: King's Quest series (esp. IV, V, and VI) Space Quest series (esp. I, II, III, and IV) Monkey Island series (esp. I and II) Quest for Glory series (esp. II and III) Phatasmagoria series (*WARNING* - extremely graphic; actually, it was so bad that many stores refused to carry it at the time) Grabriel Knight series Police Quest series (not great, but not bad either) The 7th Guest / The 11th Hour (two game series) Hugo's House of Horrors series Stand Alone: Full Throttle The Dig Torin's Passage Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist Sam & Max Hit the Road Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis Loom Snatcher - Sega CD version or, preferably, Japanese SCD or PC Engine version (*WARNING* - extremely graphic) On a slightly different type, there's always the Myst series. Or you could always go for old text adventures like the Zork series or the old Scott Adams Adventure games. FYI, the Scott Adams games can be downloaded for free at his personal website here: http://www.msadams.com/downloads.htm Also, AGD has did a couple remakes of the first two KQ games some years ago. They can be found for free here (there's also a speech pack for KQII). http://www.agdinteractive.com/games.php [edit] added some games I spaced on earlier (7/11th series, Hugo series, Loom, Snatcher)

LOL Which are actually two of the reasons I don't like her, though I'll admit that moé really doesn't find a way to impress me either. *shrugs*
  12. Pretty much what Starla said. A midi file is just a set of note commands for your sound card. This is why any convert-recorded-file-to-midi program will essentially just try to recognize the notes as they play and strip it down to a single note commands (from all tracks) and dump 'em into a single raw midi track. It's highly inaccurate and very, very messy. It's honestly not even worth the bother. Just try the VGM Archive. It's your best bet. If you can't find it there (make sure you try multiple systems if it was released on more than one), you can always request it on the forum boards. Requests don't always get done, but some do.

Hee, hee. I LOL'd, especially on the last one. This game looks fun. *thunk* *crunch* *squish, squish* *splat* PS Hey. Is it just me, or does that big guy remind anyone else of Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop?
  14. Exactly what happens when Rare makes another Ratchet & Cl... er... I mean Banjo game.
  15. Just a quick tip - CTRL+C (copy) is your friend, as is CTRL+V (paste). Use it well and it will serve you well. It has saved me many headaches on this issue.

    Anime

I've heard stuff that like before. Honestly, it kinda freaks me out to know that this is the case. I think that the majority problem is that it originally an anime and not a manga / shonen comic. Otherwise it'd probably have a huge Japanese base, although I'm curious as to what regular publication it could've been circulated in. Actually, I find the whole situation rather odd since the main writer for the series (Keiko Nobumoto did the screenplay) actually had a profound effect on some very groundbreaking anime - namely Macross Plus and Akira. Even more puzzling is the fact that Watanabe-sensei was the main writer for Samurai Champloo. Weird...
  17. That's a beautiful story, man. That's actually one of the first songs that attracted me to the site as well. The first time I heard of OCR was in a video game mag some 3-4 years ago. ♪ Bum, bum, bum! ♪ ... I guess Game Informer is good for something after all, eh? @Monobrow: Thanks for the link to Crono Crisis, man! That looks sweet! 42? ... It's just a guess.
  18. Sorry. I thought 2612 was torrent-only. The first time I saw the site I noticed the words "torrent section" and ran like the wind. My bad. Now I know better. Thanks.
  19. Whoops. *goes back and fixes* Sorry. Old habits die hard. Yeah. GYM's pretty obsolete. I do wish Zophar would get with the times. Which reminds me, is there a good non-torrent Genesis VGM site? My comp/service isn't very torrent-friendly (and attempts to make it so always meet with disaster). I know about SMS Power, but that's SMS/GG only.
  20. Couldn't say better myself. I'm extremely disappointed with the new game stuff so far. Rare should stick to their guns better. You know it always bodes ill when a company says that they're gonna give a game series a "clean start." =/

Out of all the anime/manga that I've ever watched/read, the most thoroughly enjoyable were: 5. Azumanga Daioh Great anime. Excellent comic strip. (FYI, the reason that timing is sometimes odd is due to the transition from the original comic strip format. The jokes make a lot more sense if you read the strip first.) 4. Comic Party Actually, I've only read the manga. I haven't seen the anime yet. Great, light-hearted and enjoyable series with a superb ending. 3. Dr. Slump I haven't seen the anime yet either, but the original manga is awesome. Light-hearted and supremely hilarious, Toriyama's debut series is what put him on the map and in the ready for Dragon Ball (there was even a Dr. Slump cameo during the second overall story arc). Tons of parody and comedy here (hope you don't mind some dirty jokes though). 2. Mahou Senshi Riui, aka Louie the Rune Soldier An absolutely hilarious anime from mind behind Record of Lodoss War. The overall direction and episode setup is great (despite a major cliffhanger of an ending). I just wish ADV would've finished translating the manga and gone on to the Lodoss/Louie crossover. Jerks. 1. Cowboy Bebop Best overall music. Best overall plot. Best overall episode setup (mostly self-contained episodes, but that eventually follow an overall plot). Best range of different sub-plot genres. Best overall ending. Best overall animation (2d and 3d). Best overall anime. Period.
  23. Forgot to reply. I threw an envelope in the mail before it got picked up today, so you'll probably get it sometime midweek. Made payment out to "Mustin." Hope that's right.

What's up? I haven't seen any posts for at least a week now. Did the project get dropped, or are people just bogged down with other stuff (i.e. finals, etc.)?
