  1. I still pretty much say the same thing I said at VGM the other day. Video = Awesomeness The tune selection leaves something to be desired though. I just don't like some of the remixes. That video really is too long as well. =/
  2. Heh. I paid that much for it brand new at Gamestop. ... How does $10 for Wario Land (SML3) sound (+ whatever S/H)? Also, what's payment again? Just check/MO?
  3. I'm afraid I must agree. Remixes could be great but would ultimately not capture the brilliance of the original. The original is just so perfect. ... If a remix could possibly outclass the original on every level then I might understand, but I just can't see that happening.
  4. Ah... Gotcha. Well, it's the third stage in this video (Tong Pass). Sorry I have a habit of using the Romance of the Three Kingdoms names instead of the in-game names. The ROTTK name is Xu Huang while the game refers to him as Syu Hwang (phonetic spellings, yay! >_>). Consequently, I've in short order found a page with the original midi version of the tune. Click on "Music005" to hear it (they sound a fair bit different than the SB/FM sound versions, but the notes are the same). http://www.laurasmidiheaven.com/0vg/PC-SangoFighter.shtml Or, if you're interested in basing it on something else, I did some from-scratch midi arrangements of all the tunes from Sango Fighter shortly over a year ago (based on the Sound Blaster versions, of course). They can be found under the Sango Fighter game listing at either my website or at the VGM link below. Keep in mind they are arrangements though (some more than others) and are really intended for a MSGS environment (as opposed to XG or AWE): http://www.vgmusic.com/music/computer/microsoft/windows/index-sz.html
  5. Heh. I'm kinda surprised someone did one of the tunes from Sango Fighter, although I'll admit the last time I played it was just over a year ago (part of a personal project I was doing). Anyway, I really like what you've done with the tune. I don't quite recognize the intro, but I'd agree that something too similar to the original intro probably wouldn't work with the kind of arrangement you've done here. My only qualm about the mixing is that some of the strings get a little drowned out at times. Those main strings need to be brought out a little more sometimes. I also kinda miss the light background part of the original. I do worry that the rest of the tune (after 0:38 ) feels a bit removed from the original. I'd expect a little more from the original tune to have been incorporated into the tune. With that out of the way, I really do love the flavor you've given to a pretty well ignored piece of video game history. It'd be great if you could find the time to finish this piece. Even more, I'd absolutely love to see what you could do with Xu Huang's theme (my personal favorite ).
  6. ♪ Lucky You ♪ ^o^ ... Now where's the champaigne!
  7. For animation, Greg Ayres. Gotta hand it to the raspy voice. For games, definitely Roy Conrad. Probably my favorite voice actor of all time, who unfortunately lost a battle with lung cancer back in 2002. Rest in peace, ol' chap. Your presence is sorely missed. [edit] For the record, RC was not a smoker, which makes his death just that much more tragic.
  8. Well, unless you let me choose the Shoryu Reppa, I don't know what to say other than this... Double Reppuken! ...... Seriously though, I'd actually pick the Hadouken (Ryu's, of course). Burn, baby. Burn!
  9. I know I did my four with the FM Synth versions in mind, but they're not exactly hot on quality because I'm just not good (and being as old as they are, they were intended for MSGS anyway). I'd like to do more, but as most already know, I'm not so great at finishing personal projects, hence my requests from time to time. Btw, there's also this Tyrian thread thread as well to look at / post in.
  10. Is this what you're looking for? http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/microsoft/xbox360/index-af.html (don't worry about the link name; Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is the only game currently in that category)
  11. I'm gonna pretty much say the same thing I said back on midiphile.net when this came up there. It's not as much terrible as it is just plain embarassing. Facepalming aside, I actually quite enjoyed the tuba. The chiptune part in certain sections of the song wasn't bad either. It's actually pretty funny. Conversely, this isn't half as bad as some of the junk I've been hearing on the radio in the past few years or so. I might think otherwise if this were played as annoyingly consistantly as radio tunes are. Since it isn't, I actually find this 22 minutes of facepalm-worthy hijinks to be more enjoyable, and that's just plain sad.
  12. Personally, I'd like to hear some remixes of the more heavy stuff in the game. My picks would be Torm - The Gathering, Transon, Return Me to Savara, and Gyges Will You Please Help Me. Holloween Ramble would be an awesome one to hear as well (gotta love that creepy tune). Some of the other stuff would be cool as well - Endings No. 1 and 2, Tunneling Trolls, A Field for Mag, etc. - heck anything from the game would. It'd probably be better if they were more based on the FM Sound versions of the tunes though (as I mentioned in the other thread). A good example of why are those sweet pitch bending wails in the Gyges tune - I can only imagine what it'd sound like if someone did a hardcore metal-ish remix of it. (If you can't already tell, GWYPHM is one of my two top-favorite tunes from the game.) [edit] *facepalms* Oh, man. I once played that minigame for almost an hour, listening to that tune loop itself over and over again... if there ever was a "real" ending to that stage, I never found it. It just went on... and on... and on... [edit] Or am I thinking of that other minigame. *winces* I can't remember, but I think they both used the same music. >_< Either way, both stages were annoying.
  13. I don't think there's a real need for that since the FM Sound versions of almost all the tunes are better than the midi ones anyway. It's also pretty easy to figure out the notes for people wanting to sequence and/or remix covers of the tunes.
  14. I almost forgot to post here, but the Singing Quetzl is golden. xD I love it. Likewise, I also greatly appreciated many of the other ones. I am, however, quite surprised that no one covered the tune from Wario's Castle. I am quite grateful that BBA covered the front door tune though. Thanks all. [edit] Btw, am I the only one that thinks that the Zerograv Funkatron sounds like Jeopardy or something? It just sounds so retro gameshow-ish...

    OCR-Tan

Dudes! I didn't even know this project was going on until just now. Seriously wicked! Keep up the good work! Oh. And yeah, Singing Quetzl would be a great way to end the credits. xD

    Cannon Fodder

Actually, it really does. The trouble with the game is that the MS-DOS version of the game suffered an overall sound-quality reduction. Worse yet, this particular tune got chopped down to half size in the SNES and Genesis versions of the game. It's pretty understandable why the game music gets almost no love outside of the Amiga format. It doesn't help that War Has Never Been So Much Fun (the title track) seems to get all the attention either. =/
  17. X

    Cannon Fodder

Well... it probably doesn't need a remix so much as it could just benefit from some higher quality sound, but I've always held a passion for Cannon Fodder's excellent music, so either way goes... This is especially true of the old Recruits theme. A bit 80's-ish and definitely somber, I'd absolutely love it if someone would give this little tune the golden treatment. If you need more persuation, then just watch the video below. Seriously, this song speaks for itself...

    Panel de Pon!

That was a pretty interesting lil' game. Cool music too. If you don't mind, I'd like to add that I've always felt that the Danger (Critical) Theme from Flare's stage is pretty kickin' and think that it'd make an even better remix.
  19. Oh, man... *grins from ear to ear* That sure takes me back... As much as I'd love to hear that old World 4 "Chai" tune, I'd also love to hear the World 2 "Muda" theme. The tunes from those games were just so sweet and infectious, and in every good way possible.
  20. Nice! Sounds great so far. Can't wait to hear the rest!
  21. Sweet! That's two off the list and then some. Thanks a bunch, guys! Awesome! Also, thanks for the page link, Overcoat. I only visit VGMix every so often and did realize that Jake had a second personal page under his old sequencer handle. Thanks again.
  22. So far as I know, each boss from Fusion pretty much has its own boss music. That goes for Arachnus, Serris, Zazabi (Pogo), B.O.X., Neo Ridley, Nightmare, etc. even though a fair few of them do sound a bit similar (like Serris and B.O.X.). Actually... vs Serris and vs B.O.X. would make for a couple good candidates. I'm honestly surprised that nothing from Fusion has been remixed yet. It has a pretty cool soundtrack... I've always been especially fond the Sector 5 (ARC) BGM myself.
  23. That'd be cool, but I'm afraid that I probably won't be able to make it out to MAGFest (I usually can't). However, if they could play something like The Last Springsteen or Gtr Attack! (both would work extremely well IMHO) and a video were to be recorded or something like that (posted to Youtube no doubt...), it'd be awesome!
  24. Yeah. I saw that and added it to my personal archive some time ago. Pretty sweet, man (sorry if I forgot to post a reply to the original thread). I also provided that link to a friend who is positively obsessed with the game and he was absolutely ecstatic to hear it too. Of course, more never hurts. Sometimes I just can't get enough of those tunes.
  25. Heh, heh. That was both awesome and hilarious. You certainly nailed that one right on the head. I'd love to hear this in a real SMK game. It's perfect.
