  1. Perfect summation of what I've been thinking lately. I really tend to think it [the timeline] adds to the games as a whole. Part of some of the emotional impact of TP was to visit old locales and see what had happened or how they changed. But even more than the basic parallels, when trying to draw out a cohesive timeline, you end up with something that could add more impact to your game-playing. Besides, it's kind of fun to try and build a theory; modern-day detective work and that whole bag.
  2. But yeah, I am left eye-dominant and right-handed. So I can basically swap back and forth for different advantages. I can use my right hand (and right eye) for easier trigger pull (good for rifles, not really shotguns) but less ease of vision (natural tenancy to open the wrong eye. Or I could go left handed (and left eye) to get better vision, but more awkward trigger pull. I do gain the advantage of better stability near the muzzle (gripping the pump), so that's good for shotgun shooting all day, where easy trigger pull is less important than the ease on my front hand/arm. ... But yeah, how about that Zelda? I'm totally pissed at the reward for all 60 Poes.
  3. The alpha was released, IIRC. There's a big disclaimer now in the original scorehero thread threatening a ban for asking someone who got it before it was taken down to send it to them. But yeah, I want to try it now. Did anyone get it before it was taken down? Or know where we could get it?
  4. What a jerk. Gollgagh's right. Shael + eyepatch + scars = Sagat. Actually, maybe just the baldness part.
  5. Blasto. Two player only. The game's utter shit, frankly. Part of the joy of playing it with two players is that your directions via stick and buttons are only a suggestion - the hilarity springs from the lack of control. Also, one person can get hit and keep going for 5+ seconds and not know they're dead. Lends itself to funny situations. Still, game is shit, but a blast (forgive the pun) to break out with some good friends.
  6. Eh. I was almost really impressed because I thought the position of the remote controlled what fret he was playing. Oh well, the uber awkward five-fingers on less-than-five-buttons doesn't look comfortable or easy to control. Either way, it'd be impossible or nearly impossible to do chords.
  7. What about supporting RF Mod: Alternate parts for bass, rhythmn guitars? I think it's a given that there's going to be labels, though... Am I getting ahead of myself? Shouldn't we wait for the (more) official thread? so many questions. so little post. EDIT: Totally my 666th post. Funtimes.
  8. I heard about that trick to distract him, didn't know how legit it was. Must try that, then. I still need to clear the CoO, but haven't had the time or patience to sit down and finish it. Went through the first 10 levels just to get some fairies released, but that was in preparation for the Twilight Palace (somehow getting the second Sol I totally got raped. can't remember how, though). Any tricks you guys employed to finish it easier? (especially fighting multiple Darknuts? The pair at the top of the castle were enough to hurt me pretty bad, I'm not sure if I could do three.)
  9. Walan, you just get better and better. Good call on the RF-mod. Yeah, yeah, we get screwed because no HO/POs, although I could live without them because they weren't an integral part of my GH experience... However, the whammy bar was. I'd love that, but I'm not sure it would be easy to implement with the actual distortion because a lot of people without lots of audio mastering experience just copy the guitar.ogg to song.ogg as the same thing, and that would sound odd (distortion on the same song layered over the original... can't be good).
  10. I remember a couple of iterations of this thread back, someone was talking about how they used to play Tribes (can't remember which one, maybe the first) religiously. The story went something like this: In Tribes, when people died, they dropped medpacks. Obviously, these were sought after prizes, so if the other team was smart, if they came across a body with full health (they didn't need the medpack themselves), they'd lay a mine under it. So, the response by the other team was usually to shoot any corpses with the spinfuser before looting them. Okay, enough backstory. Basically, the guy was driving down the highway, when he notices a dead cat in the road... before he knew what was happening, he had turned on his windshield wipers trying to find the "switch weapon" key. Yeah, yeah, I've done silly things like thinking I could do dangerous things in real life if I saved beforehand, yada yada.
  11. I had the same response as Taucer. Using the "chance" method makes it pretty easy. Stand just outside of his range, but not too far that he does the stupid backhand thing. He'll eventually get the picture and dash at you, which prompts the "chance" maneuver. That was about the only way I could hit it, besides getting lucky swinging, which lost me more hearts than I could afford.
  12. I occasionally had that problem, but I found that giving the nunchuck a slight bit of forward rotation helped counteract that. Also, to the people who are so damn confused about who I'm talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_in_The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess#King_Bulblin. You know who he is, you just aren't connecting the dots. EDIT: Oh! What was the deal with Ganondorf's death and the Zant neck-snap thing? I guess that they were somehow linked, and killing Ganondorf killed Zant? But it was kind of weird that they showed Zant dying first... but it was immediately after they showed the Triforce of Power on Ganondorf's hand dim and go out. Maybe with that power gone, Zant couldn't be kept alive (a reference to his "my master will keep reviving me over and over" thing). But I thought Minda destroyed him with the Fused Shadow. Maybe I missed something or am reading into it too much.
  13. Bulbin King! You know, the guy you fought on horseback, then again near the Arbiter's Grounds (he used an axe, lit the tent on fire), and then the optional fight on the castle grounds (so you can get an extra key to get into the treasure room)... Right? Big, green, and ugly? Anyway, I don't think you can do that to the Darknuts like in WW. Not positive, but I think the main problem is you can't execute a shield bash to initiate the combo.
  14. About 90-95% of keyboards have them, and I haven't seen a PS/2 one without it. My hope is that Harmonix will ditch the wireless (never thought I'd say that) for the 360 so it will make it easier to use that controller for FoF.
  15. Go find a cheap USB keyboard. Extra points if it doesn't have the "gap of death" between the F4 and the F5 key.
  16. If you register on the forums here you can get access to running submissions and people's personal archives under "Tune tradin'". There used to be great repository here, but has since been taken down. Anyway, Walan is seriously going to organize an OCR FoF song pack (hope I'm not putting him on the spot or anything), so keep eyes out for that. Nice to see that a great open source game is getting the attention it deserves. EDIT: Again, I see Dhsu's name up on one of the songs in the archive you linked - is that our Dhsu?
  17. Oh, yeah, dammit. I completely forgot about 90% of that cutscene. I never did ask Midna for advice during any of the final battles... that would have solved it. Is the sword he uses in the final fight the same sage's sword? I thought it seemed odd that he would have a glowing white sword. EDIT: yeah, watched the execution scene again. Mmhm, figured it was something of the sort. Not that it prevented her from decimating the castle. Did find these videos on youtube. Guy did a pretty good job with the capture. Got most of the important scenes.
  18. It's kind of sad that most people besides Walan are totally missing the point of this thread. This isn't a favorites thread (hoshit, lookit the mods run). Certain songs work well this GH and FoF, and some just don't. Yeah, sure, DragonForce and Malmsteen are amazing guitarists, but they don't fit well into the gameplay (impossible solos, anyone?)... Well, actually, I don't feel like ranting a whole bunch about how you guys don't get it. Continue on. Also, OCR FoF thread needs to be created. I'd be really excited about that.
  19. Just beat it again last night, remembered a few things that confused me... - What was the deal with the white glow in Ganon/dorf's chest? It was there both when he was human and beast, although when he was beast, it was a much larger gash and it was dripping out... any theories? - Why exactly did Link try and stop Midna when she was going to attack Ganondorf with the Fused Shadow (when she teleported them out to Hyrule Field)? Anyway, does anyone know where I can find... a.) a really in-depth synopsis the entire plot of TP? b.) transcripts of the cutscenes in TP?, or c.) a site with all the videos from the cutscenes? Just want to review all what happened, I strung out my 40+ hours of gameplay over about two months... can hardly remember what happened in the beginning.
  20. Hell, I'd be all over that. FoF is tiding me over to GH2 for 360, and I'll probably still play it afterward for the community's songs. (hopefully the 360 guitar is wired so we can use that with FoF - never thought I'd be decrying wireless) But yeah - OCR on FoF... I'm pretty sure I've seen some random ones floating around (or I could be delusional). Seriously, get goat, EvilHorde, Snappleman, etc. on board and this could be epic.
  21. I understand that, and the worst part is that the case rulings are so huge in number and often contradictory... I'm not a law major, and even if I was, I'm not sure it would make sense to me. BTW, though, I really like Gecko's YTMND because it gives good evidence that they are the same thing - the C64 version used arpeggios because of technical limitations (correct me if that's not right), and those still exist in the ringtone and "Do It". Good call Gecko, hope this gets out there.
  22. If by "pimp", we mean "person who parodies", then yes. Your post just makes it sound like he has some sort of special privilege, when in reality, anyone is protected by fair use as long as they sample for a parody or for historic/editorial purposes. Sorry, just wanted to clarify.
  23. Nice work Rama. I still had the old Stylish theme running, and was just complaining to myself about the way the links were handled in vBulletin... then finding this and all I was missing out on - great way to pump up the forums. EDIT: Still getting an overlap between the site location bar (eg, home » forums » General » Community) and the title "info" on the sidebar. Is this just me, a known bug, or what? EDIT2: Now I'm getting a little bit of what you were talking about - I edited a post in advanced mode (switched screens), then went back. All the context buttons on my post were the original versions, but all the others on the page were the nice new darks ones. What gives? EDIT3: Is there no replacement for the "closed" button? (the one that replaces the "post reply" button when the mods lock a thread)
  24. Wow, pretty awesome coverage there. I really like seeing this kind of stuff get spread all over the internet - getting the truth out. Nice work on the YTMND Gecko, it's quickly becoming the go-to synopsis of the whole debacle.
  25. Just beat it today. Missed three heart pieces, got all the bugs (with a little help), got all the hidden skills, but didn't even attempt to go looking for all the Poes (after I found out what the reward was... like I didn't pass up enough Rupees with a full wallet in this game). SPOILERS: - I really liked the use of the Bulblin King... and the fact that he didn't die, some sort of second-tier reoccurring boss. - The Darknuts were amazing... really an improvement over WW's already superlative enemy design. - The final boss fight(s) were amazing, best ever in a Zelda, IMO. I liked the human Ganondorf fight last, as opposed the OoT's beast Ganon last. - Zant's mimicry of the bosses was awesome, (especially the remixed music - the one from the baboon sub-boss' room was fun to listen to) though I would have liked to re-fight the dragon from the city in the sky again - truly awesome. - I thought the absence of Ganon/dorf from the majority of the game was not the best decision. I really liked his design for TP, though his dual swords in WW were cool-looking). Zant was a neat character, though. - This game was a lot more skilled with comedy that some previous Zeldas - I particularly liked the Hylian soldiers, especially the scene right before the escort mission - it was so expected, yet still funny when it happened. Anyway, who was the guy who used the crazy bomb-thrower when the people from the bar helped you out at the castle? I thought it was Auru, but I'm not sure now. Damn, could I write a novel for a post?
