  1. Yeah, that might be true in some sense - but basically, I see that single-player games can be an absolute blast with no other human interaction, and wonder why that can't be the same situation in an MMOG. Wouldn't the best game be the one that's fun to play even by yourself, and only gets more entertaining with more people? Maybe I'm missing something here. But I'm getting off into MMORPG bashing, so I'll leave it there for now. Specifically to EVE, I thought travel took too long and was boring, starting players had a steep time investment to get any return (even for an MMORPG), and the famous Great Scam stuff that can scare off new players easily. But the biggest thing I can't get over about EVE is that a single death, even, and especially, in late-game, can basically undo all the time you've spent in-game. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the idea I got as a new player and reading some of the material out there about EVE.
  2. This is exactly what I'm talking about. That's not "fun", that's seeing some extra fancy polygons in your "possession" because you've spent more tens of hours in front of the game instead of some new guy. That doesn't make a fun game. It's a little rewarding, but games are supposed to be entertaining. That said... Really? Hm... might be worth looking into anyway. Nah, what am I, crazy?
  3. As much as I love you, spleen, I have to disagree with you here. EVE was a big letdown for me. I invested over 12 hours into it before I realized I was having no fun. This is a real big problem for MMO games - achievement over fun. They are so caught up in rewarding players who spend lots on time that they forgot the main job of games is to be fun. Instead of enjoying shooting up people with lasers in space, you end up focusing on how to get a bigger number next to you name, a prettier-looking avatar, etc. [/rant] Anyway, EVE did have some high points, including it being beautiful. But then again, staring at anything for three hours as I use autopilot gets old, no matter how pretty.
  4. Hah, I guess I did kind of fall into my own fallacy. But I think I could've made it more clear. Let's rephrase that: "He has the same problems as anyone who deals in absolutes - they can't allow any exceptions to their rule." Basically, he has to go on a tirade against anything that could possibly be linked to violent video games, since he doesn't believe in an grey area.
  5. Too true. He has the same problems as anyone who deals in absolutes - there are no exceptions. I like Evilhead's counter-argument. Anyway, that GP article is kinda lacking in sources, but I guess that doesn't matter as long as we get to bash JT. Not that I'm defending him, he's an asshole, it's just that I despise bad reporting almost as much. Almost.
  6. Grar. I'd been using SFA3 Sagat for a while now, but I was still reluctant to change it. Also a battle to decided who to replace him with. Metal Slug tank > Prince of All Cosmos > Sagat. Only avatar-wise, mind you.
  7. Who's representing us out in the real world? 1.) Beatdrop (DDR Supernova 2) 2.) Pixietricks (Civ4 expansion) 3.) ??? 4.) Profit? (No, really, who?) Seriously, OCR is going to become a factory for music masters of the gaming industry.
  8. minimodding alert. Could we get this moved to the correct forum? EDIT: Sorry, but I actually don't know anything about Red Hat/Linux. I feel like an asshole for just berating you for using the wrong forum, though. Cheers?
  9. You're talking about Kazuo Hirai. We're talking about Ken Kutaragi.
  10. gonna bump this. I've been sticking with that add-on, but it's still hella annoying to do that every start up. Any other ideas?
  11. Just got back into town this morning to find out about this. Terrible way to start the day. And so it goes.

Historically, it was a well. A bottomless pit is just a much better well with no water. Also, if that was the biggest beef you had with reason and/or logic in this movie, you were hardly paying any attention. I joke, I joke.
  13. Falcon and Ness weren't secret in SSBM. Luigi and Jigglypuff both were again, though.

Already posted. This page, even. [quote='[\()/];249375'] this is delicious!
  15. What? Always Look on the Bright Side of Life was indeed Python. EDIT: Ouch, beaten to it.

Herodotus? Yeah, I was surprised the "come and take them" line was actually historically accurate (wiki "molon labe")

They used Nine Inch Nails' "Just Like You Imagined" for one trailer (only trailer?). Maybe that's the one. EDIT: The other song would be Brand X's "Hearts of Fire". The NIN song is from the "teaser", the BX one is fron the "trailer". Not sure which is which.
  18. Thanks, Smoke. The add-on works like a charm, but Firefox still isn't keeping the size stored after close (it goes back to same size, no matter what). No combination of Javascript settings fixes it; I had run into that suggestion before, with no luck. I'd like to do it automatically on startup - with that add-on, I lose a lot of viewport area (something I'm already short on) and still have to do some annoying clicking every time I open Firefox. Granted, it's a good solution for now, but I'd like a more permanent fix.
  19. Firefox and I have had some issues with window resizing (it consistently boots up off screen) and now it's really jumpy when I drag the corner around to resize it. I don't want to maximize it. (I have problems with my maximizing - when running WindowBlinds, maximizing windows covers up the taskbar, plus I like having a gap between the taskbar and the bottom of windows to fit winamp into.) I can't find any add-ons that really fix my problem, but I've heard of people writing Java code and sticking it in their bookmarks bar to flip between a few set sizes (often for checking for site compatibility over multiple resolutions). There are a few add-ons that duplicate that functionality, but none that let me put in my own resolution, and/or position. I was wondering if: a.) anyone here had done that or knew how in JavaScript, or b.) anyone knew of a add-on to fix it. Thanks a bunch.

Saw it for the second time last night. Two days, two viewings. How many of you have read the comic? I was surprised as to how much dialog was kept in the script. The movie did the whole fleshing-out of the plot (the intrigue in the Council, although it did drag on a bit), but the comic definitely did the captain's story telling skill much better (the reason he sent him back to Sparta, it was played up better in the comic).

Saw the 5:30 showing here. We were worried about it being sold out, but for our showing, there were plenty of empty seats. However, coming out, we ran into a huge line for the next showing. So, I guess we won that battle. Agreed. My favorite character. Was I the only one who thought that this movie had the best blood effects ever? The whole theater cheered when the queen stabbed that guy in the Senate (or whatever the Greek equivalent is).
  22. Yeah, Smoke, spill the beans. I'm almost certain it's impossible. Or you're leading us on and it actually is impossible.
  23. Another point to Rama and his Firefox Stylish skin thing. But yeah, I have to agree with Overcoat. Timbaland is hailed as some kind of musical genius, so I'll doubt the Finn will get anything in or out of court. Even if he does, no one will care that Timbaland stole anything.
  24. Now, I can't understand what Timbaland is mumbling about in half that youtube video, but I think that's a quote during the interview? Regardless, settle down, Taucer.
