  1. Yep! Seemed like a momentary hiccup. Thanks!
  2. I get pissed about my PowerMac - two months after I bought it, Apple bumped all of the Powermac levels down, so that for the same price I could have gotten a 2.0GHz instead of a 1.8 GHz. But then I reassure myself by thinking that, if I had waited, I would have gone two months without my computer and I wouldn't have cranked out something like three remixes in that time frame. So, if you've cranked out a remix or two or three since March 10 with Reason 3.0, then you're good to go. If you're a registered Reason 3.0 user, don't forget to grab ElectroMechanical 2.0 refill from the props site. Also, I'm not a beta tester. I don't like the Props' beta testing scheme with giving you demos and all of that. It makes it really hard to do anything. Everyone's a registered user - it's not like they shouldn't give you the opportunity to save your work.
  3. BAN. BAN. BAN. Oh wait. Unban. Edit: The interview was HILARIOUS. It kicked so much ass. I'm so sold on VGDJ. You guys have an awesome show going on here. Edit 2: For some reason my page won't grab the VGDJ RSS feed properly. :\ Anyone else have problems?
  4. The more I work with it, the more I realise that Reason 3.0 was worth my money. For $160 CAD, it has a lot of nice features that really smooth out the workflow. Best addition is the new browser, where you can play while you're browsing samples. But both SGX and I have already touted why Reason 3.0 is good.
  5. Can anyone here with a decent sense of pitch help me out with the first broken descending seventh chord is in Martel's theme? I'm trying to get a sense of what the key is but I don't have perfect pitch, and I failed the listening section in music class. Thanks!
  6. Woah, you're doing a meet again?
  7. Damn it, I got suX0rred. I'm planning to perhaps incorporate another theme in there and use the basis of the theme as background... I'm listening to the rest of the soundtrack to see if there are good recurring main themes that would fit into it. Even then, a minimalistic theme is probably not such a bad thing to work with, because then it gives me an excuse not to have a large, bombastic, dramatic track with tons of production and stuff.
  8. Well, I'll try to lay something down way in advance of the deadline so I can get some feedback, or possibly some collaborative help. Also, the theme I chose is rather minimalistic, so I have a bit more room. Is the track order set in stone? (also, I am presuming we have a total length for the CD). One thing I'm concerned about is that my track is currently the last on the CD... but let me work on it and see if it's in fact worthy of that position. Thanks!
  9. Still looking for people? What are your minimum qualifications? The reason I ask is because I'm a noob and I'd hate to be a liability on the quality of the project when it's completed. If I'm allowed to choose a theme, I'd probably consider doing "Martel" from ToP. In any case let me know if you think I'm up to standard. (Also, if anyone else with a proven track record wants to take the track, you should let them so as not to compromise the outcome). Unfortunately, I won't be able to start any WIPs until June 19 (after the OCR Idol due date) but that's still long before the August 1 date. I'm also one of those who has never completed either game, so I'd be composing from... well, with no predisposed notions.
  10. ................ what error? ... It's all her fault for spelling her name funny!
  11. By the way, you guys might want to ensure that some of the names and so forth on the VGDJ show notes are spelled correctly. Both Kureejii Lea and Sephfire's names are spelled incorrectly in the notes for #003. I normally don't care about spelling mistakes, but getting names right is important. http://www.rayza.net/VGDJ/VGDJ_sn_003.html
  12. This would be an awesome way to get people really into this. It sounds like a tiny contribution, but it is a great way to get casual listeners involved. There's nothing more thrilling than hearing your voice online, even if it's only a podcast. I think it would be pretty fun to get someone different from the community every week to say, "In the beginning there was video game music. Then DJ Pretzel said: Let there be remix!" And then the person can say, "This is ___, and you're listening to VGDJ, the official Overclocked Remix podcast." I'm catching up on the show... listening to #002 now. I like the "Person talks for a while" type of interview format. It reminds me of a documentary, actually. Strong stuff going on and I'm glad to see that people here are taking notice. And holy crap, I literally just left BC on Saturday. I COULD HAVE LIEK DROPPED IN LIVE TO THE AURORAHOT LOCATION AND GLOATED THAT I *was* in VANCOUVER.
  13. But you didn't answer his question, which was "How do I copy the pattern in the Redrum to a track?" It could very well be that the guy used the demo of FLStudio and knows how it works, but decided instead to purchase Reason. I know FLStudio's step sequencer kicks major ass, but nonetheless he wanted to learn how to do something in Reason (and used FL as an example). In any case, you can automate the Redrum in two ways... you can use the "Copy Pattern To Track" and it will paste the pattern into the sequencer between the L and R indicators. (From here, I usually like to edit things myself to make variations on drum loops). You can also automate Pattern selection like Robocop Sex described with the pencil (you can also do it live by selecting the banks you want with the mouse). I may as well extend the question a bit - does anyone know what the effect the Shuffle/Groove/User parameters have on the Redrum's patterns, versus copying to the track? For example, if I copy to track, does that mean I can no longer use the Shuffle feature, and would need to re-copy the track? (I'm presuming that this isn't a problem if you use Pattern-based automation).
  14. This is a great song that has stood the test of time, and definitely deserves more attention. Some have commented on the randomness of the drum beat, but I don't really feel that it's too random. There's some bad drumwork over at 1:08, but that's nothing that removes the greatness of the rest of the track. I really enjoy the subdued string melody, and the awesome fusion of electronic and romantic music. The arpeggios are great and the comeback to the melody at 2:26 has a determined, march-like feel to it. The interesting textures invoke so many different images - a hero, perhaps, preparing for war, on his march to the battlefield... the place where he experiences his last joy, his ironic place he calls home, before death. Excellent music that has stood the test of time - it's been three years after its acceptance, and it's still great. Israfel is definitely one of the most underrated remixers in the scene. He's done some great work here, and has improved dramatically since, but when one can make something like this and still have people enjoy it, it just screams, "Instant classic". Listen to this!
  15. That's because no one recognizes "Dead Lover's Consort". I found this song on VGMix and never realised it was ever an OCRemix.
  16. This was the mix that first made me really notice OCRemix as a source of great music. This track, although a bit less aggressive than either of the contributors' other works, is still a solid march theme and really instills a strong sense of battle atmosphere. Nice work, Israfel and k-wix. Thank you for getting me into OCR!
  17. Does anyone have good suggestions for free Choir/Vocal soundfonts/samples? (I'm using Reason 3.0, so Refills count too, as well as gentle reminders of "that awesome vocal patch" which might happen to come with the program's soundbank).
  18. For those of you who might need some ideas on how the combinator works, or what things you can do with it, there's a new article on the Props web site about how to use it. It's a two-parter, so we only get to see part 1 for now. http://www.propellerheads.se//home/discover/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_article&article=part14 People who hack around and end up making Really Cool Patches should post them here: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=56356 Take care peeps,
  19. It does take more resources than 2.5. Look up the Reason + CPU thread somewhere down on this board. That said, my PowerMac runs Reason just fine. No slowdowns or anything like that. Doesn't touch the second CPU at all. I should augment what sgx said about the new MIDI interface, which they call Remote. NICE addition and if you ask me, that's probably what took up so much time doing Reason 3.0. But the ability to hook up an arbitrary number of control surfaces and assign the knobs to anything and everything you want without having to change stuff around is awesome. They geared this feature toward live performance, but it certainly has use at home too.
  20. Lots of nice stuff here. The tempo changes and the expression used is very evident here. TONS of dynamics! There's also a lot of polyphony going on here. Everything sounds very full and warm, which is great for something as energetic as this. I enjoyed the usage of the Asian instruments and the Chinese stringed instruments. Its very stylistic and it matches the original piece, I think - Mitsuda's always had a rather organic, ethnic feel to his pieces - although Mitsuda tends to lean more Celtic. Gray takes it the other way and makes this piece more Oriental. Great work! Excellent sounds, and excellent deployment of sounds here makes for a very interesting and insightful listening experience.
  21. There are some new built-in effect presets, like Rotary Speakers, widening of the stereo field, and other neat things that you could have done manually yourself, but would have been a pain to recreate all the time. They're all combi patches, but I don't know what exactly you're looking for in terms of effects. The workflow is marginally improved, so you can browse patches now while you listen to your song. There are new mastering tools - Compressor, Equalizer, Stereo-Widener, and Maximizer/Limiter.... a bit better than the existing Reason EQing solution. If you're looking only for new patches you might want to skip for the moment. I upgraded and I'm happy with it, but it was semi-costly and the program uses more CPU. It's not exactly a cheap upgrade for what you get, if you ask me.
