The Biznut Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 A little while ago I stumbled across mattmakesgames.com and have to say that these are some of the best indie games I have played. Super addicting. Some of the platformers are pretty mean, but very intriguing and innovative. I posted a thread here for 2 reasons. The first is that the music from some of the games there is interesting to say the least. I am sure some people here will appreciate it immensely. The second is that I have really not played tons. Do you play indie games? Which ones have you enjoyed the most or spent the most time on? Which ones deserve to be mentioned in discussions of best indie games ever? Quote
Arcana Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I haven't actually really played it, but Touhou is an indie game series with an incredible fan response. Quote
Black Mage Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Though I know some here have their critiques of Jonathan Blow, but Braid is an excellent game on the indie genre. The game mechanic is pretty unique, as is the game art. The music is also beautifully atmospheric, albeit licensed from musicians like Shira Kammen and Jami Sieber. It's usually about $15 on Steam, but if you keep your eyes on their weekend deals you can find it for $5. Quote
Nase Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 MoneySeize is wicked. The level design gets downright evil later on. I'm alternating between manic laughter and screams of fury. The handling is done so well though that you can't help but try again. Thanks for sharing! I'll play through the others as well. Quote
Black Mage Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 World of Goo-ooh-ooh-oooooh. That's another one to watch for $5 sales on Steam. Quote
Nase Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 World of Goo-ooh-ooh-oooooh. Indie by definition, but does it still *smell* Indie? Ha, I think I'm starting to despise the 'Indie' label for games just as much as i do in music Soo easy to get pretentious about it. Great game btw needless to say. Quote
Thalzon Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 That's another one to watch for $5 sales on Steam. I bought it for $15 on Wiiware and it was totally worth it. The music mixed well with the creepy, laissez-faire apocalypse plot, and the ending was one of the more touching ones I've seen lately. Quote
Drack Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 cave story is NOT A VALID RESPONSE Why not? It was developed by ONE PERSON. Or are you saying it isn't good? Quote
Scufo Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Maybe because everybody knows about it already? I mean that doesn't actually make it any less indie but whatev Quote
Electronic Samurai Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Spelunky is fantastic. Derek Yu, the creator, recently released version 1.0, and it was signed on as an Xbox Live game, much like Braid. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. Quote
The Biznut Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Impreza WRX, lol. Your choice of handle and preference of indie game is consistent! ! I have heard braid mentioned around here a few times. I should check that out... Quote
