Khoregard
Just listened to Portisheads album Third, and one track, Machine Gun, is titular and reminscent to a few different VGM tunes I've heard. Anyone else out there know of any artists/tracks that are reminiscent of VGM?
EC2151
Isn't it better to flip that question around? Jus' sayin'.
WillRock
Anything by joe satriani. Instrumental music with an emphasis on catchy melodies. His music could be in any video game circumstances I reckon, his style of rock is quite diverse. He's actually got some tracks of his in video games iirc, but not much. Also, Vince Dicola deserves a mention, Training montage would make great video game music.
Binjovi
I always thought "Closing In" by The Living End felt a lot like a medley from some unknown RPG. It begins with what might be random battle music, goes into a cave/dungeon theme, then to a boss/miniboss battle; finally finishing on the random battle music again. Pretty cool song too. Nabeel Ansari
Zircon's "Antigravity" should be obvious: Warhead, Nitronic, Mindbender, Art of Zen, Speed of Light, etc. are really great tracks, all with melody emphasis and would easily fill up a video game soundtrack well. Salluz
Isn't it better to flip that question around?Jus' sayin'. It's true man, music has taken that turn. Once upon a time VGM = bleeps, now games feature orchestral masterpieces and the radio is worse than an Atari soundtrack from 1977.

Less Ashamed Of Self
Didn't I JUST start a thread like this?
Fishy
Anything by joe satriani. I basically listened to Professor Satchifunkilus and the Mysterion for a lot of FFXII postgame. It worked really well. It has that mystery about it.

Strike911
Make fun of me if you will but seriously... Yanni. I've casually thought a few of his tracks would be a perfect fit in some kind of introspective title. Hell, almost 90% of this stuff could fit as a JRPG town theme. DrumUltimA
I guess this is shameless self-promotion, but I played a piece on my recital called "And Legions Will Rise" by Kevin Puts, and I always thought it could be in Shadow of the Colossus. Not totally happy with my performance of it but it's the only one on youtube:
