  1. Hi everyone! I thought I'd post a thread in here to make it official that the OC Jazz Collective is currently working on their second ABSOLUTELY FREE OC Remix Album! The entire crew from Chronology returns to bring you some more jazz, this time in the form of a tribute to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. We've got some new faces on board as well and as per usual are open to arrangers who would like to submit their arrangements for us to record! Currently we do not have a working title for the album but we will keep you updated with this thread as we progress! 2. Just leaving my fun political note that Trump is garbage. I didn't mind the intro clip sampling action from the game; it was only 10 seconds and more about the sound & action than taking the original music, so that was all OK. I'm not sure why your lead and synth accents were quieter than the guitar chugs and drumming, so the mixing/placement doesn't make sense. 1:23 was already repeating the melody essentially verbatim from the first iteration at :43. Melodically, this could also stand to be more interpretive, but you did at least have a spirited rock cover here. The changeup at 2:29 fell flat to me; didn't quiet flow from what came before, but it was just a momentary bump in the road. Not sure about the notes around 2:55, 3:01, 3:05 & 3:11; didn't quite resolve correctly, IMO. Wow, back to the same writing at 3:23 with a little more guitar and synth accenting, but basically a copy-pasta of the :43 verse. The final section at 3:59 sounded fine to start, but dragged out without something melodic going on during the fade. A near-minute-long conclusion like that was overwrought; wrap it up sooner if there's essentially nothing more to say. The arrangement has good energy, and I actually thought the sampling and SFX stuff was tastefully included. You need to vary the melodic verses somehow, either through arranging/interpreting the melody, changing the rhythms or tempo, or presenting some different instrumental combinations/textures. Develop this more. The mixing of the parts needs to make more sense. Good base here though, Fahad; definitely see what more you can do with this one, it has great potential, and your rock arrangement ideas are well in the right direction of what we're looking for. NO (resubmit)

  3. Yeah, that's definitely Vegas. Thanks to @José the Bronx Rican for teaching me this a while back---60 FPS is definitely doable in Vegas, as long as your source files are 60 FPS or above, and youtube does support 60 FPS for HD videos. To do that, look above your preview window for a rounded square with a cursor icon in it, and click that to open Project Properties. That allows you to set up things like the video dimensions, pixel aspect ratio, and frame rate. So, if you set your framerate to be 59.940, and choose Deinterlace method: None, it'll turn out to be around 60 FPS after rendering. Be sure to right-click your video clips and check under Properties to see if the frame rate in the Media tab makes sense (for instance, 59.662 FPS makes sense). For more smoothness, right-click the video clip and go to Switches > Disable resample. ----- As for your Outlast video, your microphone is pretty quiet. The video quality seems pretty good to me. But I think the 60 FPS is pretty important for gameplay footage like this that (probably) supports it.

  4. Here's the original idea for layout that I had for the mass collaboration: Intro with voice over (SF SNES): https://app.box.com/s/ivo689dxvxoxkqvhhkitai52m87t7ch4 1st Movement (SF2): https://app.box.com/s/vfylzj8bdlxggc5319bjlqcsibzjisgh 2nd Movement (SF64): https://app.box.com/s/lds3bw5as82szney1tk8q9106m7ai8b9 Then finish with some variation of this (SF SNES): https://app.box.com/s/374qmxxui5ed302qa03ks9ywe5ec6kmf ... but I also notice that there is no love for SF Zero on this album yet either, so maybe some Andross Zero would be good too.

  5. I'd also like to acknowledge the role of critical feedback in the writing of this arrangement. I think it was Theophany that encouraged me to do a substantive rewrite of an earlier version (into which I had already poured several hours of work). But the previous version was confused, with too many ideas vying for the listener's attention. In restarting from scratch after playing around with the themes a bit, I had a much clearer vision for the arrangement, and what emerged was by far a superior product. In other words, don't succumb to the sunk-cost fallacy -- sometimes it's best to start over from a clean slate.

  6. In addition to Debussy, I also feel a bit of Bizet's slower pieces. Just a fantastic, fantastic OoT piece.

  7. I rarely post reviews -- something that I should definitely do more often -- but holy smokes, this is the best channeling of Debussy I have heard in a very long time, without limiting that qualification to fan-made material. I also love that it tackles what is a very short source, demonstrating that there is a mountain of potential for almost anything given enough talent.... ...and "enough" doesn't even begin to describe what's going on here. The ending is particularly well-executed, giving us the source melody clearly in a way that doesn't feel contrived in the slightest. I'm going to be gushing about this for some time to come.
