Recommendations for Anime from 1985-1992?
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in General Discussion
Damn, my plate's getting full. I used to have the old Vampire Hunter movie, that was my brother's. Thats geared more towards what I'm looking for. I also used to have 3x3 Eyes, but I didn't care much for it. Record of Lodess War I've never seen, I might check that out. Bubblegum Crisis also looks like a decent choice. I started watching a little bit of the Guyver anime today and I might get into that. Macross I've put off for years, I might try that too. 8Man sounds familiar. Great suggestions, guys. Thanks much. -

Are you expecting me to go "NO! Can't you fucking read!? Its 1985-1992!! Not any of this 1984 shit!!!"? Its cool, 1985-1992 are just numbers I put in for that general era. Nausicaa sounds familiar anyway, I'm going to look it up. -

Understandable, but I just don't have as much time as I used to, and it would be very hard to try and get into another large series. I barely even care much about stories either, I can just wiki that stuff. As far as genres are concerned.... I really don't know what I'm looking for. I know I get the most positive response when I see certain character designs like beautiful, multi colored villians with large cloaks and horns, combinations of fantasy and space elements, stilted animation, ridiculous fight scenes and energy beams and such... I'm not really into mech animes or realistic animes or anything. Mostly I just want to really rediscover that feeling I got when I started getting into JRPGs back in the early 90s and very, very trace elements of anime, whenever it was available. -

Wiki tells me there are 109 episodes in that series. A good recommendation, as I had forgotten that name for a long time, but its a bit long for me. The OVAs look more interesting. Which one should I look for? -
Evidently this is what gives my life its most meaning, so I intend to seek it out a little further. I already have Wrath of the Ninja, the Iria series, The Street Fighter II movie, Akira and Shinesmen, and this is, apparently the anime era I'm most interested in. I'm doing a huge trade thing at McKays in Knoxville and they usually have a lot of stuff from around this era. Any recommendations? I'm not really looking to indulge in a long series (anything that has more than 4 videos or volumes to it) but I have some time on my hands and I would appreciate any ideas.

OCR01790 - Valkyrie Profile "Yggdrasil Speaks to Me"
Meteo Xavier replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh my god, Christmas has come early... ...and my cup runneth over. Honest to God, I really didn't think this day would ever come. -
Since my idea isn't going to be used, I might as well post it for fun. Once there lived a boy who had two heads. The one on the right was called HOPE The one of the other right was called BLISS They shared one body and lived seperate lives. One head spoke only the truth The other spoke only lies But no one knew which one was which. One day, the double boy was walking through a wood When they came across a woman with no head The boy on the right offered to share his head with her So she could go about her life She went home that day and told her son what a horrible mistake he was. She told her husband was sleeping with his mom and selling the videos to pay his disability bills. She went to work and told the boss she had evidence. Then she went to Jesus and told him to fuck off and die. Then she called the news station and said she saw a disfigured man carry a beaten little girl inside his shack. That night the double boy showed up at her door "I'm as happy as I've ever been." She said with a smile on his face. But a deal was a deal and right there on the porch, she exchanged heads. The next day, she woke up in her bed. She told her son how much she loved her and how proud she was how strong he is despite living in an iron lung. She told her husband she didn't care if he ever regained mobility. She'd still fuck him whenever he wanted her to. She went to work and praised her boss and how big his shriveled testicles were. Then she went to Jesus and told him to fuck off and die. Then she called the news station again and told them to call off the search. It had been a hoax. That night the double boy showed up at her door "I'm miserable." She said frowning. "I cannot live doing this." She gave back the other head. The double boy presented her a handmade head With a smile carved on its face. "Until you get one of your own." They said. The next morning, the news was on. The remains of a little girl were found in the woods She had been beaten and eaten and molested at the end. The shack was gone and so was the man. The woman had a lot to answer for but her mouth wouldn't move It could only smile. Elsewhere, a boy with two heads was walking out of the woods. One head spoke only the truth The other spoke lies But they were both eating the same charred remains. Not bad for 20 minutes of work.

Oh ok. That makes much more sense.

Fair enough, but thats why I put a question mark on it. I'm sure as hell not speeding it up another 40 BPM. I want this remix to work and I already know it won't at that speed. -

Sadly, this is not the first time I've heard that sentence. Probably not the last either. At least this time we're talking about music.... -
It bothers me that no one else seems to care about this song, so I've been working on to remix it. This is the blueprint: http://www.zshare.net/audio/522492011b4b7d8f/ This is the version I'm working on: http://www.zshare.net/audio/5224922790cb57c7/ I'm not trying to do it as a straight and simple techno or trance song, just a decently electronic one. I'm aware of several problems already, but any feedback or direction you can lead me into is fine. Mostly I'm concerned its not energetic or radiant enough and that the instrumentation is stiff.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to tear this quote apart. What the hell makes someone stupid for their choice of preference? Or, alternate phrasing, what the hell makes someone's preference of music stupid? I don't claim to be the most omniscient man around, but I think if there were a set of guidelines that clearly established who was an idiot (or poser or any other derogatory term you guys come up with to pretentiously differentiate yourselves from people who like music you don't) based upon certain names, genres, dates and what the fuck ever, I would've heard about it by now. Such guidelines do not exist and I'm up to my ass sick of hearing it. Not everyone is a diehard music fan. A lot of people only listen to whatever's on the radio because thats all they really have an enticement to do. If they like it with some extra cash lying aorund, they go out and buy it and enjoy it some more until they have their fill. They are not required to take it any further if there is no enticement to do so. They paid for their music and they can use as a fucking fashion statement, if they want to. Who are you to tell them otherwise? I'm going off here because the whole subject is insane and not many are saying much about it (that I know of). People have been bitching about Modern Pop and the mainstream casual listeners forever. These arguments, infantile as they are, are probably over 100 years old. People were saying this modern music is shit and destroying America since JAZZ, always favoring the older days since 20-30 years ago - a "Golden Age" of music that didn't actually exist because the same fucking criticisms existed back then. Now I'm going to dive right off the *** **** deep end and say that if Music is just fashion for those stupid people, then Music is just culture for you guys. Its just a channel for your alternatives to the disgusting and awful and deceitful and pure fucking evil Popular Cultures. Its propaganda for your politics and atheism. Its an experiment to see how far "art" can go on little merit, training or any real credibility. Its an exercise to see how much you can spend on some bitch because she's "not Britney Spears". Its a chance for every miserable outcast 20 miles around to gather, smoke pot, and crawl one-by-one up the collective ass and orgasm over and over again about how much fun it is to be in this awful secret little club that shits in the face of mainstream culture and waves its middle finger with a rebel yell screaming MORE! MORE! MORE! So when it is EVER about the fucking music? Hell, until I started coming to Ocremix, I had no idea people my age ever thought about chord structures, or melodies, or production values. People who actually cared about the music for the sake of the music itself, not what genre it is or who listens to it. Music is just organized noise. Its not life, its not love, its not fashion, its not culture, its not anything but a series of sonic vibrations that people have overgratified into a religion onto itself. It is NOTHING by itself. It's just music. It's a tool that you bought and are free to use however you want to use it. Same for everyone else too. Bottom Line: If you cannot respect a culture, you do not deserve one of your own. End. (I'm going to regret submitting this, but whatever. Post).
