  1. i have usually been pretty neutral about Dan's stuff. i can obviously recognize his talent and ability, but he hadnt done anything that reeally struck a chord with me. I was blown away by this mix. First of all, the production is ablsolutely top-notch. the samples are all great. but more importantly, it's arranged so effectively and beautifully that it really conveys emotion, as well as musical goodness. I like the minor 9 that is used in the beginning and end. nice. Definately a keeper.
  2. Great high quality stuff. my only complaint is that it really doesnt vary too much from the originals. but it sounds great, especially the intro. note: i dont recognize the last movement. wheres it from?
  3. I really like this mix, tho not nearly as much as a lot of people apparently. bad first: 1 i think there's some good harmony going on, but i cant tell because all i can hear is the guitars. 2 the trumpet...i cant believe the judges thought my trumpet patch sounds unnatural but said nothing about this trumpet. 3 i dont like the distortion that is used ont he guitars. the compression IMO makes them sound unnatural, and theres nto enough reverb. On to the good 1 guitars are great, the interplay between them is great. 2 like i said, there's great harmony going on, i just cant hear it. 3 the end of one of the solo choruses, at around 2:55 sounds VERY abbey road to me. check it out and see if you kind of hear what i'm hearing. nice stuff, but not flawless.
  4. Ah! why are there only 7 reviews? this is (IMO) one of the best mixes on the site. the keyboard/vibes/whatever is so lonely. i cant critique this song because there's nothign wrong with it. i wish it were longer. i love how the strings come in one at a time. the stereobass is great as well. PLEASE everybody download this song.
  5. This song set out to be moody and dark and brooding and its a resounding success. there's absolutetly nothing to complain about. I'm a big COTMM fan, and its great to hear his talents merged with the talents of BD and KP's guitars. (i wouldnt mind laying down a guitar solo for COTMM myself ). anyway, i went to puerto rico a few weeks ago and i listened to this song every night on the beach while i worked out. (karate). great stuff.
  6. Very very strong work. top quality production and i really like the whispering. (i'm interested to know whether that was synth or a live recording of various psychotic mutterings.) Personally i think it goes on a little too long. i've got nothing against long songs, not at all, but i think this particular song gets a little tedius after a few minutes. not enough variation to keep it interesting for long periods of time. but that doesnt change the fact that this is a well done and cool mix.
  7. The intro reminds me of the lve theme from romeo+juliet. i'll try not to hold that against you. The lead patch at the beginning sounds like its from my roland jv1010. familiar. i dont particularly like the strange attack. i'm about 2'30 in now, its pretty nice. i think it could use some 'verb. i would have liked to hear the strings kind of build up more. overall pretty good.
  8. You know, i really really like this mix. its a shame its not more popular, because its very moody and interesting. It isnt incredibly mixed or arranged or anything, but its very...Primal. really great stuff, i reccomend it for everybody. My only complaint is that your guitar is out of tune. its more noticable in some places than others.

  10. Yes...well, here are the stats. "Zero Sacrifice" -120 bpm Sigma Stage 1 OST -150 BPM. if you think you can play that solo 25% faster, be my guest. I would have given it a shot, but I already knew what the results would be.
  11. Thanks strider, i'm planning on buying a better synth module and redoing some patches. #2, the reason i called the song "the zero sacrifice" is because at the end of said sigma stage, zero...well...sacrifices himself.
  12. What a thoughtful and constructive criticism. I'd like to thank K-Wix and Mustin in perticular for their input, among others. thanks guys.
  13. Ok, so here's my rundown of this mix. This was the first mix i ever did, so be gentle. I did it last summer, about 6 months ago, right after i got my little roland JV1010, which i am now told has completely inferior drum patches. (i kind of noticed myself, but i dont know how to download/install new patches in cakewalk, if anyone woudl be interested in giving me a hand that would be great). anyway, someone asked if there was a little MMX2 in the mix. NO. the little interlude and pre-ending you hear is actually the intro theme from megaman 2. i think. i don know why this song was the first to pop into my head, probably because it was easy as turd to arrange, the instruments are so clear cut. i thought it was pretty good for a first shot, but now i realize it's unspectacular. around october I threw on those guitars (actually, the solo i had originally recorded at half speed on keyboard) and i submitted it a few weeks after i submitted my second (and i think better) mix, Liquid Metal (available at an OCR near you.) so, still, any comments, questions, etc are welcome at JTNights@attbi.com but please keep in mind this was my first mix.
  14. I agree with djp, i dig the drums very much. however, i think it is a little too repetitive, and it looses my attention after 2 minutes or so. its a very cool song, and would be great if it were shorter, but its almost 5 minutes long. theres just not enough variation to be interesting for 5 minutes. but overall, the mix is well sequenced, the patches are good, effective panning (drums) and there's decent depth and harmony/interplay. nice work.
  15. testing out my new sig (badge of honor/disgrace)
  16. i know, i tried changing it to txt...i did read it, it jsut didnt work when i did that
  17. ok this is progress....but whats wrong still?
  18. This is really an incredibly high-quality mix. it is done very well, and it is both seamless and fluid. It sounds like something you would hear on the radio...i promise that isnt an insult. it's really much better than anything one would hear on the radio, but it does kind of have that pop/r&b groove going on. good stuff.
  19. this is a good mix. the samples are there. my one gripe is a creative one. i feel that Kaijin jumps in too soon with harmony. The melody is never really established, and as a result, i think the mix seems a little groundless. It jumps from one harmony to another, and there is no hint of what is being harmonized. blah. completely subjective, and i maintain that this is a very strong mix. -Vig
  20. Like the track itself, my review will be simple and concise. Pleasing to the ear, original, and very moody. this track proves that a mix doesnt have to be busy or complecated to be effective. this track in its simple beauty is up there with the best from McV, DJP, AmIE, Protricity, and anyone else whose name rhymes with those. -Vig
  21. I like this mix. Its catchy, and funky. its a great mix to work out to. However, I also liked the original sound track. This mix is really pleasing, but i think more could have been done to make it different from the original. But all around, this is a very solid mix, great patches, and good flow. -Vig
