  1. YouTube no longer uses a 5-star rating system, they use Like/Dislike. That said, we originally disallowed ratings on all videos. In hindsight, it was a complete mistake and ignorant of how YouTube works. I re-enabled them because YouTube's sharing and searchability is primarily based on people "Liking" videos. Disabling the ability to do that drastically decreased the ability of the songs to spread around and reach more people. Also, anyone could go to our YT channel and sort by most viewed or top rated, which can't be disabled, otherwise we would. Whatever's most viewed or top rated on our YouTube channel is more a result of nostalgia bias & our subscriber base at the time the vid was uploaded rather than anything objective, so ultimately we chose to live with it, realizing those sorting methods don't actually reflect what's "best".
  2. That's not objective, that's still very subjective. There's always bias toward game, genre, composer, how recent or old the mix is, just a bunch of things that wouldn't make any top 10/100/1000 list worth anything. The only real benefit is a discussion starter and something that would be shared & debated, but and that's at the expense of other ReMixers & ReMixes that wouldn't be on such a list.
  3. I didn't remember it was from DoD, but it's a revision from the DoD version regardless, and not the same one.
  4. Yeah, you're weird. That's not accurate at all. Oh wait, you're right. It's totally depressing hearing "HEY, it's the party song. Party's over here. C'MON!"
  5. I can only answer the first part, but, no, that source tune would be outside what we could accept. It has to be music created for the medium of a game.
  6. Apparently, he says/thinks that to himself in a dream at the end of EarthBound. He just didn't speak or have his thoughts presented for most of EarthBound. He's talked in the Smash series, so he's not entirely mute throughout his character history. So there's no reason there shouldn't at least be something in the way of a quote. If it's a matter of using a legitimate quote or attempting to make a sentence "true" through omission, go with the former.
  7. STYLE CHANGES http://ocremix.org/info/Kefka_Palazzo Move the quote up top and make it it's own italicized section header, i.e. == ''"QUOTATION STUFF"'' == Quotes look silly having their own section, plus it's cooler to have them up top, makeing it more compelling to read the subsequent bios. Also, for all first mentions of the character name in the article, please bold the name, i.e. '''Kefka Palazzo''' Thanks to anyone who can help! I think these are small but important revisions. To keep easy track of this, work alphabetically. I've done N-Z.
  8. Haha, that's a reach. But I will be trying to holler at Tycho about Phantasy Star Online music at PAX this year if I get the chance. He's got good taste.
  9. The first part about the filesize limit is right. The second part about why we don't host FLACs for individual ReMixes is not. We're down with hosting FLACs of ReMixes, though until bandwidth is cheaper, we'd probably just keep it torrent-based, not available individually, like we do with our album FLACs. But in 5 years, improvements in technology could make FLACs a drop in the hat. That said, I'm totally fine with gathering FLACs of OC ReMixes, and we can make that official. Letter coming soon to all ReMixers...
  10. In the meantime, could someone make placeholder pages for the new additions? Pololo?
  11. Could I get you to redo that with a ReMix with my updated tagging layout? It might not be dramatically different (especially since OCR02001 uses mostly the same stuff). But I can send you some.
  12. Also thought I posted here too. Super strong stuff, per Star's usual. He's great at pulling off those grandiose soundscapes.
  13. Ah, I gotcha; I haven't looked at those settings in quite a while, since I haven't needed to alter them. Indeed, I used the default, ID3v2.3 UTF-16, because there are some foreign characters we use, mostly accented vowels. I don't know if v2.4 is supposed to be any better, and was thinking about using it, but when edited in iTunes, the tags became v2.3, so I stuck with that. But yeah, you pointing out the non-standard extended tags that were in these files will lead to a lot more cleanup, so you've given me a lot of peace of mind thanks to that eagle eye. I want these files to be as close to perfect as I can get 'em. EDIT: EVERY miscellaneous non-standard tag has been removed.
  14. Yep, I know; that'll be the last thing I change with a mass edit. But for now until everything's updated with the new style, I keep the old URL to remind me we're not fully finished yet. http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0#UNICODE http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0#ISO-8859-1 Dunno what ID3v2 tags these are (Unicode or ISO). Whatever MP3tag uses. Removed POLUARIMETER tag from 6 files, ENGINEER from 4 files and "WWW NO DESCRIPTION" from 367 files (nice). I see there's a way to easily see all extended fields for all files at once in MP3tag, so I'll take a deeper look and make some fixes. Great catch, I definitely appreciate you finding stuff like this before everything was finalized!
  15. http://sites.google.com/site/liontamervgf/OCRTestTaggingv2.rar Strictly 1000+ tracks, and includes prelim album art. Let me know how they work.
  16. AFAIK, they were never posted to the main site, but I'd be willing to listen to them out of curiosity.
  17. Winner winner, chicken dinner. http://twitter.com/ocremix/status/16990605066 http://twitter.com/YasunoriMitsuda/status/16993469655 http://twitter.com/katethegreat19/status/17004060347
  18. The overall levels were too low (except for the bass). The claps felt really tame, but didn't sound as weak once other parts joined in. In the intro, the synths should have been more upfront, as well as the lead at :31. As is, the Rhodes lead just sounded weak and out of place, but you had better instrumentation for the lead from 1:01-1:17 to change things up. Not a fan of the way the Rhodes interacted with everything else here from 1:20-1:48; the brighter tone of it never clicked with what else was in place. Some more stuff at 2:04, repeating earlier sections with a bit more instrumental sauce on top for some contrast. There could have been more going on there to spice it up and make the core of the arrangement feel like it had evolved, but this wasn't bad. The grace notes added onto the melody by the e-piano (2:07-2:11) didn't sound good at all, because the tone/sound didn't fit, and the volume just made it get lost in the rest of the soundscape. It's a good base, but this still needs more spit polishing via EQing work, and IMO, some tweaks to the instrumentation to make the textures sound more cohesive, and further interpretive ideas in the second half to keep it fresh. NO (resubmit)
  19. I was gonna invoke Eurovision when mentioning the key change, but since the genre for this one is unlike anything that would be in the contest I decided against it.
  20. Otakon 2010 July 30-August 1, 2010 Baltimore, MD http://www.otakon.com Get ready to suit up for this year's OCR panel! OC ReMix: Video Game Music Community Saturday, July 31, 2010 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Panel 3 (BCC Ballroom I & II) And making their Otakon panel debut with their own panel event: OverClocked After Dark! OverClocked After Dark [18+] Saturday, July 31, 2010 12:30 AM - 1:30 AM Panel 5 (Hilton Key Ballroom 7-9-10) OCAD is the unofficial podcast of OverClocked ReMix. If you're familiar with OverClocked ReMix, you'll know already that it is a community of people dedicated to rearranging video game music. What many people never get to know though, is the person behind every posted mix or music-oriented interview. We like to focus less on the professional side and more on the casual side of the guest, although we do go over their musical background and accomplishments, to an extent. We do this podcast to have fun and explore the down-to-earth people that might not be represented in their work. Stay tuned for more details! There are going to be other great VGM guests at Otakon this year that are on the DL for the moment, but make sure to lock in NOW so you can be there!
  21. I had some very minor differences for 1 or 2 attributions, but Benjamin's is more accurate I'd bet, so it's neither here nor there. There was also some loose connections to the classic Zelda theme from 1:25-1:39 that he also didn't count, so it's all good. Source usage wasn't an issue once we had the breakdown to connect everything from A to B. Props on coaxing the musicality out of these themes. If anyone thinks the arrangement is scattershot, it IS, but that's because the structure of the source tunes, particularly the intro, are the same way. I thought some of your other non-chip tracks on the album could have been further polished, but the potential is clearly there and you're way ahead of the pack. As I said in #j, if you keep at it, you'll be consistently putting out high quality stuff without thinking. This is a great debut, bro, keep 'em coming! YES
  22. AkumajoBelmont (Robbie Sabo) akumajobelmont@yahoo.com.au Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AkumajoBelmont User ID: 10026 Okies, so this is my first submission in years haha. It's a remix of the renowned Dr Wily 1 theme from Mega Man 2, and it's called 'For You'. Before you wince and think 'SHIT NOT ANOTHER WILY REMIX!!+1DIKHEDZ!!-1KooLPoiNTZ', I think it's kinda unique in the fact that it's rather lyrical So, I started this a year ago, but progress came to an abrupt halt when my PC died (twice). I would have liked to have added a little more to this, but I've lost a lot of my original sounds and vocals for this, so that would be a large task to re-do it all again... work keeps me insanely busy.. which sucks, but I digress... I'm quite happy with this as is. As previously mentioned, I have indeed provided my own vocals for this remix. I don't profess to be the best singer around. And yes, I have AutoTune-ddd my vox up. But even in the time since I recorded the vox for this, I have improved quite a bit. But for the time being, it sounds ok, at least to me. I don't see it as a horrible thing (AutoTune, that is), unless it's detrimental, in which case it's up to you guys to decide. My use of Auto Tune will sure to be a point of contention... It's not perfectly implemented, but hell if I'm gonna let a few off notes keep me from trying to sound ok I have a story to tell, and I hope it's come across decent enough to be heard. Lyrically, it's quite vague... but at the same time I feel quite visual. You can make of it what you want... whatever you see while you listen to the lyrics, it's correct. Of course, it's rather personal at the same time... it's definitely from someplace deep inside. But as much as it was important to get a specific emotion out of me at the time of writing the lyrics, it's as much about whoever listens... I hope it's Anthematic (is that even a word??? O_o) enough for the masses to relate to. Here's the lyrics: ------ [VERSE 1] Her words unspoken, with silence to blame. How she tries to gain the courage to understand why it came to be this way. These words of wisdom, time and again, go unheard. He knows it's not her fault that it was all in vain.. ..we all bleed the same. Our differences are great, but not enough to separate us from their lies. We tried; We did our best. Why can't you look into my eyes? [CHORUS] And she said "my friend you know there's nothing we can do Just let it go. Secrets never show themselves. You'll learn to just move on, Till then this song is for you." And he said "the only way to learn is to experience the pain. In that way we're the same" Oh... They turned around and parted ways. This song is for you. [VERSE 2] So it's been written through the ages of time. From pens of ancient masters to prose of the modern mind. A tale to be told. And now we find them holding onto their faith. They've tried all that they could, but we know it's just to late... ...to not end up alone. The Jury overthrown. Their differences are few, but not enough to see them through. It's such a shame. They wonder whose to blame... ...or is it just that we're the same? ------ Musically, it's pretty basic... I always intended the focus to be on the vocals, but I think it's got a gentle sound that is something that most could latch onto. I've used the melodies and such from the source as a base... the vocals follow the basic foundations of the now immortal main melody of the source. The verses tend to be more interpretive, but the hook/chorus just wouldn't sound the same if it were altered too much. Funnily enough, the lyrics kinda just came to fit. I had no trouble adapting the source into a vocal format .. a sure sign of something that was kinda just meant to be. Anyways, I hope you guys like this... take care guys! -Robbie ------------------------------------------------------------- - "Dr. Wily Stage 1"I could understand people not feeling these vocals. The more pronounced auto-tune warbling will throw some people off. That said, I got a Robbie Williams vibe from some of the performance, so good on ya. The vocals definitely need to be de-essed though, so it's a shame the project files are gone. The way the piano's produced, it was too quiet AND dry, and the notes sounded mechanical. That said, the piano was reasonably couched in the rest of the soundscape where, even though it was annoying, it wasn't a dealbreaker. Nice chorusing of the vocals at 1:16. Aww, key change at 3:09. No points off, just a personal thing. Overall, this is pulled off excellently. Some parts of the production took a couple points off, and I would have loved to see those addressed, but it was pretty minor in the big picture. Robbie, let's definitely not have this long of a gap between this and you next sub; keep 'em coming! YES
