  1. http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=ffmq - "Battle 1" (ffmq-07.spc) Wasn't a big fan of this soundtrack, but the battle themes in it were pretty solid. Good choice to arrange. Weird opening, but a good change of pace. Melody came in at :24 via electrosynth. Yeah, gotta agree with zircon in that I'm not feeling the slower pace. The arrangement has also managed to deemphasize the original and made it less melodically driven. The melodic lead tends to take a complete backseat to the percussion, supporting electrosynths and massive effects in play. Drums at 1:30 were too basic and didn't drive the track along; combined with the fairly thin pad in there and the soundfield sounded empty. You need to spice the drums up to prevent boredom, bro; they're the foundation of the track. Meanwhile, read everything zircon said again, because he was on point with a lot of issues I agreed with on the production, the mechanical usage of the synths, and the wrong notes. The track lacks a great deal of finesse. Keep trying, Charles. NO
  2. http://www.zophar.net/usf/lozusf.rar - 68 "Gerudo Valley" Read the submissions guidelines. Throwing in some brief references (2:08 & 4:52) or sections (3:03) with Zelda music admist a nearly wholly original song is a violation of site guidelines and NOT what the site is about. The only reason this is on the panel is because the performance isn't bad and you deserve some critique on it. Vocals sound a bit green and untrained, but are otherwise pretty good. Good harmonization when in play. The drums could stand more variation. Vocals were buried under all the instrumentation from 3:27-3:52. Sounded like an intentional choice, but not one that really benefitted the mix. More video game music arrangement like 3:27-3:52, otherwise stuff like this will never pass under any circumstances. Look forward to possibly hearing a real game arrangement from your next band. NO
  3. http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=ta - "Water Stage - Critical" (ta-21.spc) Awesome source tune. Pretty interesting soundtrack. Disappointing that more people haven't attempted to tackle it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Jeffrey. The melodic content in the SPC is all from the bassline and pad, so I'm interested in hearing what you did to arrange it. Nice fade-in for the intro. Mix is a bit on the trebly side. Piano coming in at :45 sounds fairly synthetic and robotic in the performance, though the sample isn't bad. After 1:00 when you seemed to move into a new section, I realized the piano was just too low in volume to begin with. You should have either had it louder the whole way, or punched it up at 1:00 leading into the next section for some dynamic contrast. Beats coming in after 1:00 were really flimsy. There's lots of effects attempting to flesh out the sounds here, but the soundscape is really thin nonetheless; none of the samples that are meant to sound organic are cutting it. All of the melodic content in the mix doesn't cut through the supporting instrumentation enough, so fix the balance there. You need to learn how to better flesh out the samples you're using. I also agreed with the others about the lack of direction and lack of melodic hooks here. The arrangement doesn't really go anywhere. This needs to be addressed both with your sound balance as well as the arrangement structure. Keep on improving, bro, you are indeed getting better. NO
  4. For the longest time, this mix was accidentally cut off. You didn't think Zeratul would just end the mix halfway, did you? Y'all should download the complete song now and enjoy.
  5. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty Original Soundtrack - (01) "'Metal Gear Solid' Main Theme" I threw this up here because it was better than form-letter quality, but the other two summed this up. Not substantial interpretiation, plus a simliar style to the original only with weaker sounds is a straightforward NO. Read the submissions guidelines before you submit a track in the future.
  6. http://www.zophar.net/usf/lozusf.rar - 57 "Windmill Hut" Some of the samples are hurting, no doubt about that. Brass in particular sounded very flimsy. Drums at 1:09 are VERY empty. Ken did a decent job attempting to flesh things out, but the sounds here still lacks energy and depth; things are still too dry, IMO. Stuff like the strings needs more work like Jesse pointed out, but the brass was the main offender for me personally. The note movements in some places were a bit too rigid; somehow in "At the End of All Things" you were able to achieve a more organic sound despite the timing, but this here wasn't a similar case. The arrangement is ok, but did feel like some motifs repeated too much. 4:30 was supposed to sound like a strong close, but merely let me down because the theme was being arranged basically the same way yet again. Refine things and resubmit, bro. Good base so far, but not yet ready for primetime. NO (resubmit)
  7. http://www.zophar.net/nsf/megaman2.zip - Track 19 (Dr. Wily Stage 1) http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=dkc - "Gang-Plank Galleon" (dkc-21.spc) Didn't like the percussion during the intro. Flimsy sounds, plus the guitar timing didn't match up well with it. The drums during the melody are decent though a bit annoying with the rapid fire nature of 'em. But the cymbals from :07-:16 for example sounded out of place; that's a nitpick, but over the long-haul it became more of an issue. I think you could make the percussion sound less rigid and pasted underneath the guitars. The patterns varied up nicely though. Cool interpretive section at 1:29-2:04, then following into the meedley-meeeee wank at 2:04 and soloing over the foundation of the original. Not sure why the DKC section from 2:40-3:27 was there at all; didn't lock together at all with the previous material, with poor transitions and no logical piecing together back to the Wily theme. Agreed with the others NOs, the execution is weak and a killer. zircon's right about the various levels being off. Put the guitars in the front. Work on the production, tighten up the performance and think of how to work the "Gang-Plank Galleon" section seamlessly into the rest of the arrangement and you'd have a much better chance. Decent so far, at least. NO (resubmit)
  8. http://www.zophar.net/gbs/tetris.zip - Track 3 On a personal taste level, some of the shriller sounds here bothered me, and I'm not really a fan of the genre, but the arrangement here was pretty good, and I appreciate everything that was done here. The melodic content at 1:37 was straightforward to start, but everything was dressed up nicely with expansionist ideas and varied instrumentation. The rest of the track more than qualified in terms of interpretation within the genre adaptation. The production was pretty damn beefy without being needlessly loud and overbearing; very solid. Indeed, like Vigilante, I actually felt like this had enough potential to develop for another couple of minutes, which is a huge compliment given how often we hear mixes in this genre that overstay their welcome. Nice work, Ian, and welcome aboard. Genuinely looking forward to hearing whatever you've got in store next. YES
  9. http://project2612.org/download.php?id=36 - "Green Hill Zone" Spot on call from Malc. The arrangement attempted to be personalized, especially changing the rhythms a bit and adding some new supporting instrumentation, but simply wasn't particularly interpretive. Good section at 1:33 as was pointed out earlier. Then at 1:46, you went back into the straightforward melodic arrangement while drastically souping up the pot with some excellent new supporting writing that really played right off of the original and took it into a new, expansive direction. So the arrangement certainly shows some serious potential. The sounds did clash a bit though like Malc was saying, which undermined the presentation. Wish the sounds weren't so tame overall and devoid of energy. They're half-decent, but honestly undermine the arrangement. The drum tone in particular is pretty lacking and doesn't provide any punch. Anyway, if you were making this stuff 5 years ago, hopefully you have some killer stuff in the works as of now. Hope your skills haven't gotten rusty. Keep at it, and I look forward to hearing something new from you in the future. NO
  10. http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=sf2 - "Chun-Li Stage" (sf2-10.spc) Agreed with both sets of criticism from Malcos and zircon. Some decent ideas, but the sounds are pretty weak, the arrangement dragged on after a while due to the sections being too long, and the mixing of the various instruments was imbalanced. Decent potential; you could be putting out some good stuff in the future provided you keep learning more about the music-making process. Cool first sub, yanagin. Keep improving. NO
  11. http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=loz3 - "Church" (loz3-17.spc), "Overworld" (loz3-04.spc) & "Kakariko Village" (loz3-05.spc) Dunno why this fell through in the first place, maybe the link was a 404 by the time it was reached last time. In any case, sorry about the wait, Mark. I hope you're not discouraged from sending anything further in the future. Just wanna make clear that the performance and production are definitely fine. I loved the delicate intro handling "Church". Adhseive Boy had a good mix of that same theme that he dropped after he felt he couldn't improve it, but it's made me look forward to someone else arranging the theme. The arrangement here got a little more creative with the rhythms at :56, so on that level I was feeling things, though the apporach was very conservative. Sped up nicely starting around 1:26. Changed into the "Overworld" theme at 1:53 without much of a transition. Again, the coverage of the themes is impressive, and Mark shows off his skills at adapting the material to solo piano, but the interpretation just isn't interpretive enough. The themes are handled very in a straightforward manner, and thereby doesn't evoke the feeling of anything unique 4:21 switches over to "Kakariko Village", again with no transition whatsoever, which simply felt like the themes were just jammed together with no flow, like my bro Malc mentioned. The track ends with the "Kakariko Village" theme simply stopping, then three last notes; everything ended abruptly and resolved poorly. I agreed with the criticisms that the track was too empty at times; you gotta fill it out more. I can't stress enough that (sans the abrupt transitions and lack of a strong ending) this is a beautiful piece with an approach that would fit fairly well on an official Zelda arrangement album. But as far as the standards of the site here go, the arrangement approach is too conservative and not interpretive enough. Also wanna note that I love what VgPiano is doing, so I'll of course keep following what's going on there. Thanks a lot for organizing it, Mark. If you wanna try another go at this arrangement with more interpretive ideas in here, I'm sure we'd love to hear it. NO
  12. Yeah, me and TO were LOLing about how awesome this was, but it's a guidelines violation, since it's mostly original music. Hard to make a viable arrangement off of 2 notes. But we loved it nonetheless! NO

I've always been a great big fan of Earthworm Jim. He was so quirky and the whole premise of the game was surreal to begin with. I figured that the "What The Heack!?" level would be a fun one to try. I'm not big on elevator music however so I decided (for better or for worse) to liven up the track a little bit with some out of controll percussion and some very happy sounding piano. I do hope everyone enjoys. I had fun putting it together.

Name of game remixed: Donkey Kong Country Name of individual songs remixed: I don't know their names, but one is the map theme and the other is from the jungle stages (i.e. Vulture Culture, Vine Valley, &c.) My own comments about the mix: Having found the site not too long ago and having been making music for half a decade, I figured I'd try my hand at a remix. I noticed that, although DKC in concert had yielded tons of songs, none had used the very easy and melodic figure from the jungle stages, nor had they used the similarly easy and melodic figure from the map. Seeing how easy they were to play on guitar, I figured I'd meld the two songs. The result is somewhat the lovechild of Delerium and progressive rock (assuming they can have lovechildren), with multiple bass parts, a simple drum part (anything too complex seemed intrusive), and vocals turning up in an odd way (that ethereal choir thing in the middle of the song is actually me singing falsetto with TONS of reverb). I can't tell good production values from a hole in the ground, but I figured the song would be fun to make regardless of whether judges think it's worth posting, and I think the execution of the song is quite different from most remixes on the site. I hope I got everything you wanted in the tag. -Brandon Isleib Earth Dyed Red
  15. Info: Remixer Name: Xitiger UserID: 39654 Name of game remixed: Last Battle: Legend of Final Hero Name of songs remixed: Boss, Labyrinth Additional Info: Year: 1988 Console: Sega Genesis Composer: Unknown Comments: Although a lackluster game, Last Battle had one thing about it that struck me as incredible. Even when I was a young kid playing this game almost two decades ago, I was still hit by the dire, desperate sound of the boss music. I found the melody wonderful. I'd try to fight all of the bosses, even the notoriously difficult optional ones, just to hear that song. I also never beat the game. Now that I've actually acquired a way to record something like this, I've taken the opportunity to do just that. I've made it into a piano arrangement because I felt that this best conveyed the hopelessness in the song. It speaks of a melancholy outcome after a struggle, no matter if you win or lose. Hence its name, "The Futile Victory". Just as the piece starts to pick up momentum and carry to a climax, it ends. It intentionally fails to deliver that emotional sense of satisfaction, as if a long slow descent into death finally took someone just as a cure was discovered. .....Now that sounded melodramatic! To add flavor to the song I included the Labyrinth theme, from the same game, in the bridge. There isn't any Rachmaninoff-like acrobatics in this song. It's intended to be somber and deliberate. Please let me know your opinion of this piece, and what can be done to improve it. I'm not expecting it to make it through, but I would like some helpful criticism if (more appropriately, when) it fails to ascend to the front pages, so that I could further work on it and resubmit. Criticism would be appreciated since very few people were commenting on it when I had it up in the WIP section. I suppose its because the song is from an obscure game. Thank you for your time. P.S. Pardon my attachment of the file. I cannot find a good hosting website. Zircon had hosted the first version of the song for me but that did not have the specified ID3 tags. I also fixed up the mix in this version. I also didn't want to bother Zircon about it since he did offer to help me that once and I didn't want to overstay my welcome, so to speak. ----------------------------------------------------- http://project2612.org/download.php?id=297 - Tracks 5 & 8 Piano performance isn't poor, but sparse and rigid in the timing of the left-hand chords. Gotta flesh out the sounds and work on refining the flow of the performance. Atmosphere also sounds rather lo-fi. Some areas that were supposed to sound more emotive, such as 1:25-1:52, really didn't posses much intensity or feeling. Decent dynamics here though, moving onward into a really delicate reiteration of the first section at 1:52 to create some contrast. The left-hand stuff from 2:42-2:46 sounded really fake and exposed. Arrangement could stand to be more interpretative in places. Decent arrangement, but poorly produced. Lurk around the ReMixing forum and see what you can do to help boost the quality of a solo piano performance such as this one. NO
  16. Over the bitrate limit, but deserves arrangement feedback anyway - LT hi there, i did a remix of Nemesis the warlock by Rob Hubbard you can download here: my name: Eftos my hp: http://www.eftos.de ----------------------------------------------------- http://www.exotica.org.uk/tunes/archive/C64Music/Hubbard_Rob/Nemesis_the_Warlock.sid - Subtune 1/1 Seemed alright enough to panel just giving it the cursory listen. Unfortunately, it's basically the SID with subtle harmonization w/effects + drums, i.e. NOT what this site is about. Please read the Submission Standards for more clarification on what's expected of a ReMix. We're not just looking for a mere enhancement of the original track, we're looking for a unique, rearranged interpretation of the original track into a new song. NO Override

  18. My handle is nightvision (all lowercase), my email is nightvision04@hotmail.com The song was origonally battle music from Bomberman 64 (First of two games). It was origonally a 1:12 long track, now completely remixed and extended. Email me if you have any more questions, thank you. ------------------------------------------------------- http://www.zophar.net/usf/bombermanusf.zip - 17 "Boss Battle" The original doesn't have much you can really play off of from an arrangement standpoint. Didn't sound like much here beyond offering beefier sounds and trying to give substance to a melody that was present in the original for maybe 10 seconds (:42-:52, I was right). Pretty rough synths here on lead. Once things got fuller at :32, the lead kind of mushed into the other sounds, like there was some weird delay on it. Sound balance was pretty sloppy, the track didn't have much in the way of dynamics, and things weren't awful but at the same time weren't very musical. Decent first effort, and the track had some notable intensity, but that was about it. Really needed to be reigned in and given more development and direction, though trying to arrange such a source tune, I'm not sure how much more you could have done with it without going into very liberal territory. Never say never in this community of course. NO

However, mainly due to a problem with matching the ambience of my recording to the rest of the piece, I had to consider that I might not be able to incorporate them. After getting some opinions about it from people on the forum and zircon, I decided to let go of the idea and submit it the way it is. The Song of Storms is one of my favorite melodies from Zelda 64: TOoT. I've been wanting to remix it for quite some time. Up until now, though, I never felt I had the resources or the skill to be able to tackle the project the way I wanted to. However, I now feel confident in my abilities and chose to go for the goal. At last, I have written an arrangement of one of my favorite songs and I submit it now in the hope of its acceptance. The piece is fairly free-form in its construction. Two major sections return throughout the piece; the main theme (the Song of Storms) and a countertheme, which was created from the accompaniment in the original. It's scored for Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Eb Clarinet, two Bb Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, two Bassoons, two French horns, two Bb Trumpets, two Trombones, Tuba, Organ (originally meant to be Baritone voice), Harp, Timpani, Percussion, First and Second Violins, Violas, Cellos, and Basses. This is probably my most epic piece so far, even among my original compositions. Now, I did spend a good deal of time writing the lyrics, so rather than let them go to waste, I'm going to include them here: Sweet calming rain, hold me together Sing softly lullabies into my mind Let it rain! Let it rain! Wash my tears and pain away Clear these sunken eyes Mend my broken dreams Let it rain! Let it rain! Drops of dew upon my face Healing touch of God Take these scars I pray Let it rain! Let it rain! Let me drink of life again Taste of what is pure Thirst for what is real

Hi, I’m Eric from Brazil and here is my info: CONTACT INFO ReMixer name: Cosmonal Real Name: Eric Fraga Email: cosmonal@terra.com.br REMIX INFO Game Remixed: Sonic The Hedgehog Song: Green Hill Zone System: Mega Drive / Sega Genesis Comments: I’ve made it on one 2001 saturday afternoon. A friend was visiting me and he liked games very much like me, then I said to him: “Let me start doing some game music in front of you”. Sometimes another friend used to borrow his Roland G600 and, on that time, I just had a PSR510 and some soundfonts. The day I wrote this Green Hill Zone version I was excited about the G600 that was with me for a couple days and talking about Sega games with Luiz (my friend at home). It’s sequenced on PTW 5.0 and had some mixing and producing on SF 5.0. I never submitted any of my game music versions until now, to any site, anywhere. I have lots of Sega music here and your site made me feel the mood for upload it. Thanks! I should be uploading more soon. Eric

I think its my most solid sax performance to date.
  24. http://project2612.org/download.php?id=53 - "Fighting in the Street", "Violent Breathing" http://project2612.org/download.php?id=56 - "Go Straight", "Dreamer", "Wave 131" Interesting conbination of SoR1's "Fighting in the Street" & SoR2's "Go Straight" for the intro, though it doesn't sound very musical to be honest. I agreed with Malc that everything was too loud and cluttered. Vig's right in that by incorporating more dynamic contrast, things would sound less taxing on the ears and present a better arrangement. The arrangement seemed ok; nothing I would pass, but I appreciate the blending effort. Nonetheless, the meshed backing sturcture of "Fighting in the Street" & "Go Straight" dragged on for too long, lasting until 1:50 of a 4:03 mix. Moved onto to a mesh of "Fighting in the Street" and SoR2's "Dreamer" at 1:50, which had me groove biased with the melodic Koshiro hooks, but still had the same volume and intensity as everything else. The transition at 3:19 into SoR1's "Violent Breathing" & SoR2's "Wave 131" was pretty awkward and merely jarring. Make the transisition more gradual. This mesh, IMO, worked the least out of all of the ones presented. The meshing is a cool concept on paper, but you really gotta learn more if you want the finished result to lock together and sound cohesive. The mix doesn't feel like it evolves on account of the volume, and, beyond meshing the various theme together, the melodic content wasn't very interpretive at all. Keep at it though, you show potential, bro. Stick around the ReMixing and Works forums to learn more about arranging and solicit feedback. NO
