  1. I'll solicit my usual VGM connections for the original to be on the safe side. I'd like to make the comparison before we post this. EDIT: Thanks to CHz as usual for the source tune hookup. Sub Culture (PC Game Rip) - 08 Well now, looks like new sounds on top of the original. That's exactly why we have to verify before posting anything. It's the ripped source (with worse sound quality, no less), plus additive original stuff. Nurykabe kinda plays with the sampled part of the original so that it doesn't quite sound the same later on in the track, but it may be just effects rather than any substantive change. The soundtrack is just 10 tracks, and nothing else sounded like the mix, so I don't think there's a second source. Regardless, the direct sampling disqualifies this. Ok remix, but certainly not an OC ReMix. NO Override Need some verification.
  2. Hi, I have just finished my remix of some of my favorite Streets Of Rage songs. I had a great time remixing some of my favorite tunes from Streets Of Rage 1 & 2 into a 4-minute party mix, updating the overall soundspace yet staying true to the original sounds. This mix does not contain samples from the original tunes and everything has been played/recorded/programmed from scratch. Reason was used for pretty much the whole mix, except for the final mastering which was done in SoundForge.

Contact info Remixer name: Nicholai (wish to change my remixer name to Nicholai Duval with this remix, if the remix passes and if it can be done) Real Name: Nicholai Duval Remix info: Game remixed: Metroid 2 Own comments: I was fooling around with the world theme from Metroid 2 on my MIDI-keyboard and realized that it had some remixing potential as the melodies are quite catchy and the original "percussion" could be transformed into something more up-beat. Long story short: I figured various elements in the original song were almost ment to be placed in the context of something more dance friendly. As far as I knew, it had not been done before although it's not that big a leap of thought. I tried to give the tune a little more oomph and variation, but later made a concious decision to abandon that project due to the simple reason that the melodies did not want to admit of of some forced traditional trance bass sequence - and if your opinion differ, heed the challenge! So instead I tried to make the best I could of the original elements, but with subtle changes and additions. And the outcome? Not excactly your paradigm change of remixing science, but a pretty tight piece that imho does it's job. Furhter rhetoric trickery would surely bore you, so here's the tune: Cheers Nicholai Duval

See ya! ~Quinn quinnfox@comcast.net www.quinn.50g.com ------------------------------------------------------ Shining Force CD - 14 "Open Plains" I believe that's the right name of the source tune I have, as I've never seen a rip of the soundtrack available. In any case, we have the right one. I remember we had some judge candidates review this track over a year ago. The track's had a while to simmer on my hard drive since that time. When I first heard it way back when, I didn't like the track much. I'm a big fan of the melodic arrangement and was surprised by how well the minimalism worked. There's good variation in the sounds used to arrange the source as well. TO mentioned way back that the hats seemed a bit too loud, which I agreed with. Nothing major. The countermelodic writing was pretty smartly written; it's too bad most won't notice it. The main hangup I had were the drums. They have a decent enough groove, but it just seemed like you fit in a couple of different loops and that was it. Dunno if you were relying on some presets at the base for 'em, but either way, I wish they felt more integral to the mix. Despite reservations, there was enough creativity in the arrangement of the melody and the handling of the countermelodic material, plus the style was pulled off pretty well. Most attempts with something like this in mind wouldn't sound nearly as cohesive. I could see how a vote could go either way. YES (borderline)
  5. Here I go, Hi. I'm yanagin(remix name) and I've been a fan of the site for a while and I have to say that I love it. Unfortunately I don't have regular access to the internet so I can visit a whole lot. Ever since I heard all the amazing remixes on the site. (disco dan is the man) I've been wanting to remix videogame songs. Well here it is. I just got fuirty loops and been messing around with it non stop for about a week. Here's my submission, its attached to email(only way for me). It's the first thing I created on fruity loops. Its chunli's theme from street fighter 2 called Chunli pulsemix. I guess its a fusion of several different styles but mostly techno and trance. It's not perfect of course, particualarly since I've been having problems with my bass line fading in and out, but I saved the best recording I could and I'm happy with the results. I wasn't going for something totally original. If anything, this song was a first time fruity loops experiments, so I have alot of obvious elements in the song, but I tried to achieve the best sound and samples I could with them to hone my skills in fruity loops before delving into something more complex. Anyway, hope you like it, hope it gets posted. enjoy.

From there I built around it and created a slightly down tempo but still punchy and exciting battle theme remix. I really wanted to do a cover, but this idea inspired by "Lands of Fire" just stuck and so the remix was born.   7. Yo all. I have just started to remix and im starting to get the hang of it. I have never posted any remixes her befor so im not really sure if im doing this right, and im not sure if i did the ID tags right. if not, please let me know and i will fix it. Anyhow. I havent decided on any artist name yet so im going with my last name "Gager". Anyhow. This is the first remix that i can say that i really like. Its a remix of the good old "Super mario bros" theme with alittle electro feeling to it. It's the home page of the Nerdcore Hip Hop CD collaboration that was recently released. It features a bunch of artists ranging from extremely amatuer to very professional sounding. On this, you will find three songs with my name on them (including the Earthbound Black Market mix and two relatively new originals) and some songs by another prominent OCRvestite, Shael Riley. It's cool crud and a link would be jawesome. anyways, this is my mix for the tales project. It's a very liberal take on "Zelos Serious Arrange" which is some kind of sad song or something. I took the melody line and reenvisioned it as a motown era pop song. be forewarned, it's very liberal, but in my opinion, it IS a remix of the theme and not like...top gun or some crud. I wrote all the parts and Luiza was kind enough to record the wah guitar. The production is my attempt to follow some motown era production thingies, including the vinyl-ey crackle, the panning of the instruments, and the drum solo. The silence before the main song is intentional as well, but if you feel it's too long, i'll shorten it. Oh and btw, the brass is very fakey. I'm back, I'm not sure if you remember me but this is my third attempt at getting this right, I've sent in 2 previous remixes and both were rejected, I'm not going to disclose which ones they were, because looking back, I can see why they were (they had nothing to do with this one). Here's my attempt at a metal version of the classic theme from Wily's levels in Mega Man 2, along with a couple other tunes thrown in to the mix. It was my first attempt at writing anything in 3/4. It was my first attempt at changing time signatures mid-song (to 4/4 about half way through the song). It was the first song I used hardware for all the synth sounds (Roland SH-32). First time I've tried to mix anything by Yoko Shimomura, first time I've ever tried to master like this song is mastered, blah blah blah. Anyway, the song itself is supposed to grow from begginning to end. I kind of envisioned the whole thing as starting when Sora enters The World That Never Was, and ending just as he walked through that door filled with light after reading Kairi's letter. I left the ending rather abrupt for a possible "sequel" to the song, but I have no clue if I'll actually do it. Anyway, I think it turned out quite well, and I hope you enjoy it. Ross ------------------------------------------------------ Kingdom Hearts II Original Soundtrack - (226) "Sacred Moon" Kingdom Hearts Original Soundtrack - (102) "Hikari -KINGDOM Orchestra Instrumental Version-" Yeah, I thought the LordMaestro name was n00bish. I think your real name's better than "RK", but to each his own. Anyway, the English version of "Hikari" is known as "Simple and Clean", and the orchestral version in on the KH1 soundtrack, so that's why I snagged it. That one particular drum snap has no depth; needs to sound more spacious within the soundfield, and you need to more substantially vary up both the patterns and drum tone to create better dynamics through the mix. Piano sounds OK, but the intro is weird where almost everything sounds like single notes with only a couple of chords; sounds pretty barren, plus the timing sounds really mechanical. Flesh that piano part out. That e-piano thing fading in from 1:08 sounded really tacky and cheesy, especially as exposed as it was up until 1:15. Harmonizing with the melody, it's OK. Still the melodic stuff is really robotically sequenced. After 1:42, same criticism with the bells, woodwind, and the piano from before. Hats at 1:56 are too loud and just annoy my right ear. It's a cool idea, but shouldn't sound so distinctive amidst the other sounds. Strings in the background at 2:44 also sounded really fake with the note-to-note movements. Heard some various odd notes/phrases in there that, to me, might have been off, but nothing egregious. Props for an arrangement that attempts to evolve over the course of its near-4 minutes, but the rigid timing the whole way undermines all of the energy you're going for with the writing. Ending's too sudden and not a satisfying resolution. It sounded like the track ran out of ideas, so "let's just end it immediately." Decent ideas, but devoid of emotion and realism in the presentation, so that's where you need to focus your efforts. At least in my opinion, this one doesn't need an overhaul to have a shot; work on the details now, Ross. NO (rework/resubmit)
  12. Props for an LOL submission concept; who wants to do the honors? - LT As a kid I spent days in front of the computer, playing what I consider the hardest game of all time. It was frustrating having so much dependant on luck, but I kept persevering, and on the 11th November, 1993, I finally saw the cards cascade in majestic arcs. The feeling that welled up in my chest was indiscribable, but Microsoft's crack music team understood it well. As such they put the majestic congratulatory 'Ta-da!' fanfare in. I wont lie, tears well in my ears whenever I hear that sound. Although I'v moved onto the sequal (Spider Solitaire; twice the cards, keeps with the atmosphere of Solitaire, and ups the difficulty... highly recommended), the original Solitaire will always have that special place in my heart. As such, I decided to remix this highly popular tune to give it the recognition it deserves. I'm not sure it does the original justice, but its my special little tribute. Lead at 1:03 was on the loud side. Some phat beetz came in at 1:18. Lead at 1:34 is generic/bread-and-butter; reminds me of some of OCR's older stuff though, so it's a cool throwback. 2:06 goes back to that same lead as 1:03 only with a new foundation. The atmosphere could sound sharper, but nonetheless, everything was varied pretty nicely and the beats and melodic work were locking together well the whole way through. Yeah, a lot of the electrosynths have that old school, 2000/2001 OCR flavor to them. Ending at 3:40 wasn't quite my cup of tea, mostly due to the beats. Nonetheless, I REALLY would have liked to have seen the instrumentation ideas there explored futher. Sounded like too much of a tease when there was a lot of interesting potential. [checks source tune] Very interesting soundtrack. Yeah, the original was decent, but this was, at least IMO, a notable improvement. May run into some NOs or reservations from the others, but I felt you made this into something passable. If it gets rejected for whatever reason, keep working on it further, as this sounds solid so far. Best of luck on the rest of the vote, Trevor. YES EDIT (9/14): I've had quite a while to marinate on the NO decisions, and I do feel like the synth design is bland and flat compared to the strength of the other sounds. New tracks, new artwork, and other bonus features. In celebration, I hereby release my personal favorite of the new music to Overclocked Remix. The first "Day of the Tentacle" remix to grace the site, and Mazedude's first solo piano remix. I love the mental imagery of a tentacle playing the piano. By the way, I'm not asking for a front page spotlight, but if you could kindly mention the Special Edition in your writeup, with a link to http://www.mazedude.com/aa/special.htm, that'd be awesome. Relevant stuff picks back up from 2:50. You should be fine from there. I paneled this since this was Chris's first solo piano mix, from a more obscure game, and brief. The arrangement is short and sweet, but well done for one instrument. I like the story behind the arrangement with some tentacled deal deciding the play the 88 keys. Doesn't sound quite as crazy as the story implies, but it's pulled off pretty well. Could be a little more polished in terms of the realism of the piano's sound, but it's merely a nitpick amidst such a substantive and well-executed arrangement. Looking forward to another solo piano mix from Chris, if only to see what else he can do with the style. YES
  19. Hey guys, I guess I got another one for ya. As I've previously mentioned, Ziwtra and I were engaged in a remix project of sorts for this game. Most unfortunately, I believe I've completely lost touch with Youngjin. I suppose he's got a lot on his plate that has probably pushed remixing to a non-priority. But anyway, I have a few of these FFA remixes that have been growing stagnant for the past year, so I thought I would go ahead and share the Kenji-Ito-love. This is a well-known tune that has earned it's keep in the FF series. Source is tracks 9 & 10 of the .gbs file, I present the Chocobo theme(s), the hatching and the riding music. This mix is fairly short and sweet. Not a whole lot of deviation as far as arrangement goes, but enough that it's not just simply an upgrade in sound quality. I hope it makes you want to tap your feet and "snap your fingers" to the tune! Not only is this my first submission to the site, it's the first "remix" I've ever attempted. I was inspired to arrange "June Mermaid", from Yasunori Mitsuda's amazing Xenogears OST, for a number of reasons. First, Xenogears is THE game that got me to start paying closer attention to the music in the games I was playing. Second, my original intention was to actually give this arrangement to Mitsuda himself (I was lucky enough to be able to meet him at the Play! Videogame Symphony in Chicago this past May). Knowing this was coming I began to diligently work on it during the weeks leading up to the event. Unfortunately, I was not happy enough with the arrangement by the time the concert rolled around so I wasn't able to give it to him. But, that did allow me to spend some more time with it and get it, in terms of quality, to where I needed it to be. The instrument arrangement itself is not all that different from the original (piano, strings, etc). I think the tone/mood of this arrangement, as well as the compositional passages of my own material, are what make "Ma-meido" fresh and, I hope, worthy of acceptance onto this site. *crosses fingers* Possible notes of interest: I created this piece using Cakewalk's Sonar Music Studio. Dunno why a 3:30-long track has been encoded at 125kbps VBR. It doesn't even sound good for VBR. Very muddy. Piano performance sounds pretty stiff at times, and most of the notes sound plunky and barren. Couple of sour notes in there. Strings also sound extra synthetic and unrealistic. Things don't flow well; all in all, pretty rough to listen to. Terrible decay of the samples at 3:24; way too fast, which exposed the samples. You need to beef up the piano work, but also need to learn how to create more realistic-sounding textures with your existing samples. Read up on ways to help do that in the ReMixing forum and post material in the Works forum for more feedback before you try to submit again. You need to acquire more experience on all levels. NO

Please excuse and remove the little addition this site makes to the File name of the song. Ok, this was a long time coming. I originally submitted this in May 2005 and was told by a couple of Judges to resubmit it. But by then I was already neck deep in a new song, “Squirrel Outta Hell”. But after that, I did take a third look at this song; I added a few things and so one. Then I lost the source file for about 4 or 5 months (grrrr, my brother formatted the computer). But then I found a backup that was about half as far along as the one that was lost. But by that time, I was up past my ears in “Battle of the Hylian Hero”. (Notice a pattern?) So finally, last January I started work on this again. Though it was only sporadic work at best. (Max: Hour per week). Anyway here it is. Same kinda style as the original with many instrument additions/replacements. Took the advice from the first judging and mixed it in. Oh, I guess I should mention that there is a tiny, second long, 7 note part in my song taken from ABBA’s, ‘Gimme, Gimme, Gimme’ which I use about 5 times throughout the song (first at 0:17). Benny and Björn won’t mind I hope. Original Submission Info: This is the second and final version (guess not, J) of this song. I did submit an earlier version on vgmix.com but this one is of much higher quality in my opinion. The re-work served as a way to develop ideas for a totally new remix. Hope you like it. This is a resubmission of my orchestral remix of the song, Writhe In Pain, from Guilty Gear. The title is the same as before; Destroy Movements. I appreciated all of the advice I received from the judges on my first submission. I hope this one can become the first Daisuke Ishiwatari remix on your sweet site. I tried my best to make the 3v2 labels right. Please forgive any mislabels. Thank you for your time. ------------------------------------------------------ Guilty Gear XX Original Soundtrack - 106 "Writhe in Pain ~Millia's Theme~" This resubmission was a major improvement over the first sub. Only two sticking points. 1. The encoding is too low. Bump it up to try and reach 6MB with VBR. 2. With the exception of the very loud (probably a bit too much so) close from 3:19-3:42/end, the instrumentation was still flat. I can live with the samples sounding synthetic, but they at least need the power that real instruments would have with this kind of composition. For example, the sampled brass from 2:10-2:18 sounded so thin. Beef it up; that doesn't just mean raise the volume. Use more layering and/or effects to flesh out the instruments that are meant to sound organic. Almost everything right now sounded noticeably tame on the production side, but clearly headed in the right direction. Unfortunately, I can't give you much specific advice on how to remedy those things, but hopefully some other Js can and will. The arrangement was pretty strong to me, Jahan, so good luck on the rest of the vote. You did a great job of taking the criticisms of the panel in stride and coming back with a vastly improved piece. I think you have what it takes to get this unique and interpretive arrangement up on the site! NO (borderline/resubmit)

No clue what the source is based on this one. I tried "Armed and Ready" and "Shop", but didn't draw any meaningful connections. Maybe I just wasn't patient enough. Any help's appreciated. Meanwhile, a pretty cool vibe from the outset. Nice sounds chosen. 1:17-1:39 though, things didn't sound very musical at all. Beyond that point though, it sounded like the major majority of the tracks was beats and ambiance with little melodic content for the remainder. Not sure how that's supposed to represent a substantive arrangement. It simply doesn't. Total head-scratcher, but I'll at least keep it. More substance please, and let us know what you're arranging in more detail based on the actual soundtrack archive. wait a second... [checks tags]...
