  1. Thanks for everything Dave! Like many others have said, the music from OCR was the music of my high school years, and it's amazing to see how many artists and listeners have been inspired by your project! I'm glad to have been a mixer and project director under your guidance and I can't wait to see what OCR will become in the future. We owe it to you to keep it amazing :D

Thanks again for all the hard work, sweat, tears, years, everything you have put into this, even when it wasn't always easy.

Got a book from my secret santa, so it arrived safely. I didn't read that book, so thanks for finding something i didn't read. (yes i have a pretty extensive sci-fi book collection)

I'm glad you didn't have it yet :D enjoy!

As @Abadoss proposed, we do have the profile block/column with the avatar image where we can add some (not a ton) of additional info - I'm thinking specifically a star for featured artists, linking to artist profile on OCR, and then also icon links for the more common social media networks, i.e. Twitter, SoundCloud, YouTube, Facebook. Blogs were nixed at the time because Invision's implementation didn't have, of all things, global categories, which were deemed relatively important. They're (finally) adding those in the next major point release, so it's time to reconsider how/whether we'd do that.

IPS *does* have a gallery module, as well, which we *could* enable - in addition to giving visual artists a place to show off their stuff, it could be used for WIP artwork for album projects, etc. Interested in your feedback on this @The Coop, mostly in terms of whether it'd be worth it & have some value?

To echo what @DarkeSword wrote, we're moving forward as-is, but we're also going to be making a host of other changes. Strong feelings will be had, I'm sure, but to me a lot of this is long overdue and we need to try what we can to leverage the forums & integrate them with the rest of the site, along with a redesign. When the dust settles and we see what's what, anything & everything could be back on the table, but the same design concerns would likely apply.

Thanks for the clarification and your attitude towards suggested alternatives David!

  4. Since I will never be able to say it as well as Coop does, I agree with Coop :) I think the sigs add to the personality and feeling of the overall site. There are more than enough emotionless social media-outlets. I don't think OCR should try to follow that trend, I think it should differentiate itself; allowing the personality/art aspect of sigs as The Coop described very well is a part of that in my opinion. Adding to that, I think a big part of the appeal of ReMixes of videogames is the nostalgia; why remove that sense of nostalgia from the rest of the site?

  5. Like I said in the YouTube comments, I can really appreciate the artistic value of using a source and using it in a very different way than just taking the main melody and changing a few notes here or there. I'm a bit biased here because I've done this before as well (and probably will do this in the future). These kinds of remixes can sometimes feel like a puzzle, trying to get the source from it and then going "aahhhh that's  what (s)he did with the source". For me, it's very exciting in a very different level than for pure nostalgia.

What I'm trying to say is very well done - this might not be for everyone, but as an artist I can really appreciate how you handled the source material! This is the "abstract art" style of making ReMixes

  6. Yeah it sure does! Awesome that you have a BadAss idea for him!

In other news: quite some work has been going on behind the scenes, as well as some mixers working on tracks that are not on the front page yet. What is on the front page though, is that Steele (from BA3 fame) has officially joined the roster with a Nero theme from DMC5!
