Because the only way to explain it is to either be a Sigmund Freud about it, or not give a fuck. Most of us opt for that second one because we don't give a fuck.

and, at the bat of an eye my childhood died seriously though, I'm not a huge fan... keeping an open mind, but I think everything from the style, to the attitude expressed, just rips away everything that makes Charlie Brown what it is in other words, shallow but interesting experiment I guess

Sounds perfect. It's taken me 2-3 weeks before just to get the right idea of what I want to do let alone how I end up doing it. I may be an illustrator, but leave it to me to have no imagination.

Question, would it be one month active every 2 months, or the full 2 months active every 2 months that we work on the projects? I'd still like to try contributing to the FAC. I was so close to finishing my entry, but my tablet didn't work at my sister's place where I spent 8 days last month. I still spend 30 minutes every now and again just working on the small little bits when I can, even though it's useless now. In fact, we just got this on the main page. That in itself could be good.

Guxt - Vertical Shmup from the Maker of Cave Story
Necrotic replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
Simple but a blast to play. Pixel proves once again proves that sometimes being dead simple can be just as fun as being complex as long as the right parts are there. Also, Pixel RPG? -Nick -
Thanks. That makes me a very happy to know. I'm sure the PS2 games aren't affected by that though.

This actually just made me think of something that I nearly forgot that's been on the back of my mind for a while now, but I never got around to asking. I always assumed yes until this was brought up though. Does the PS3 have region locking? And if so I assume it's just for the discs and not for demos then? (Thread's too long to backtrack if this has already been asked, sorry.) -Nick

uhh... I'm beyond confused as to what the goal of any of this is or what any of this is explain better? I think you're getting too excited or something.

Just checked IGN and the MSRP is just $20. Can't go wrong with that, considering Picross is like one of the most addicting number puzzles pretty much ever. And apparently there's talk of downloadable puzzles from Nintendo and other people through WFC?

I dunno... think it's a stretch because Rare still made GBA and DS games long after acquisition. Just look at Diddy Kong Racing. Just not console games. Besides, it's not like Microsoft has any portable system of its own. Might as well go with the one guaranteed to make a solid buck or two. Or millions.

So sucks for me but I couldn't get my tablet drivers working at my sis' place (where I spent the past 8 days.) D: I'm back home now... I'll keep working on my entry just for the fun of it. I'd really like to show what it was I was working on, I'm pretty proud that I haven't managed to eff it up so far but it's not even close to finished. -Nick

Nah he's just bein' a hater. Konami said during E3 that it wasn't impressed by the PS3 price drop and wants to see more consoles sold otherwise it'd consider moving exlusives to "reach critical mass", but that's basically it. Kojima's gone on record saying many times that he ideally wants MGS4 to stay on the PS3. Whether or not Konami could sway without a doubt their biggest asset to change his mind is definitely way, way up in the air. As much as I wouldn't mind MGS4 going onto the 360, anyone holding their breath better think twice. If there's any game, any SINGLE game that Sony has a bottomless pocketbook to keep on their side, it's this. These rumours are so damn frustrating though. I'm at a point where I'm ready to buy either a 360 or a PS3, but once I buy one or the other I'm basically locked in. It's not like I can afford both. If MGS4 goes on the 360 then I'd of course rather have that because it's had a chance to prove itself for a couple years now. It's got the support, the titles, and a solid online system. It's just that the hardware isn't reliable. However a lot of people like to be blissfully ignorant about this fact, but as much as Sony has done stupid shit before they're not stupid enough to forget that losing MGS4 means losing producers, developers and exclusives. Because by losing a gargantuan chunk of their consumers Sony loses any leverage on the people who actually supply the software (frankly everyone I know would rather have a 360 over a PS3 at this point because it doesn't have any games like MGS yet). For guys like me, MGS4 is THE system seller. The one game that's all I give a fuck about for the PS3 coming anywhere in the near future. In the long-term, with the PS3's features, I'm going to be honest by saying that despite the 360's good charms over the past couple years the PS3 has more potential for being more than just a game system, and that's a charm (to me) all in itself. As for the gameplay footage... dayamn. There's a reason MGS is easily one of my favourite series. Hell I'm sure any of us that've played it have it ranked somewhere way up high in our favourites, but it really does grow and improve with each new game. I like how they took some of the elements of great action games (or Splinter Cell for that matter) by adding the soulder aim and vastly improving the camera. Somehow made it not really lose its foundation in stealth though and with those kind of additions THAT's impressive. It's just ridiculous as to what kind of options you have to control Snake now. Plus nothing really seemed to just be given the ol spit shine from MGS3. Everything was either greatly improved, changed, or removed. The only exception is the first person "mode" that was added... I'm nervous to see whether that could give MGS a bit of an identity crisis. The FPS mode is still REALLY neat to see in action. Anyone remember some of the first MGS4 trailers where it perceived MGS as an FPS? The first thing I thought was, 'Wow, MGS could be really fun if that was pulled off right.' My favourite addition is definitely the new CQC stuff. I hope what we saw in the demo is just a taste of what new CQC stuff we see later on. Holding up is easier too, which is kinda cool, and the idea to do body checks seems so obvious that I'm glad it's now an option. -Nick

Yay internets. My sister got that shiz all sorted out. No longer a problem. -Nick

Now here's something interesting. http://starmen.net/ebsiege/itoi/ Starmen.net has an addition to their "Earthbound Siege" where they want people to send messages to Shigesato Itoi. Keeping the messages simple, of course, so that he can understand them. They'll screen the entries and when they send him a translated (and apparently special) version of the Earthbound Anthlogy. This is one of the extras he'll get: various fan mail from people like you or me telling him how much we appreciate his work. Starmen.net's Siege is easily one of the most organized, compelling, and by far the coolest method of petitioning I've pretty much ever seen.

Grim Fandango The Longest Journey Only adventure games you'll ever need, although Sam & Max, Full Throttle, and the Monkey Island series are also really nice. -Nick

Uhh so I just found out my sister's place may not have internet access during the time I'm going to be there 'cause of some stupid billing issue that stupidly shouldn't exist because it was really taken care of but the ISP doesn't think so. That said, I may not be able to submit on the 27th. D: How should I proceed commander? Entry is not ready for consumption but I will be taking it on my trip. Maybe I can leech WiFi? -Nick

This helps put things into perspective... It's true: I don't enter my regular competitions like FAC every month (although I still have a serious interest) and I took a break from the fighting game tournament (and am slightly losing interest in that even now). The fact that they run every month is nice but I don't obligate myself to join every month because either I can't or don't want to. In fact sometimes the competitions are outright boring when you're against the same set of people, or the same people win every month. That's why fresh folk are nice to have around here. I wonder if putting competitions into 2-month or even 3-month cycles would work better? Maybe a 1-month break between competitions would be good, or maybe just randomly starting up competitions at different times. Although, that last one I feel would be best served as a last resort. You're right, usually we'd be sending kamoh off with a "hey, screw off if you don't like it" but this is something we can all sympathize with, because this section of the forum--these competitions--they're founded upon the hard work we all do to keep them alive. It's a pain in the ass that they've become neglected when some of us put in 100%, or can even be bothered to put in any of our free time whether it's the tiniest bit or not. In the General forum, people seemed to have fun watching the competitions. I remember watching the FAC each month before I started entering my own works. I remember other people who didn't or couldn't contribute talking in the thread (even myself) complimenting people on their hard work, giving them critiques on their works in progress, and things like that. I wish I could keep sharing the joy of active participation with everyone, but being in the Competitions forum makes it hard to share that work when honestly most of what I see in some of these threads is "wow I had no idea this forum even existed" or "oh so this is where the competitions moved to." Contributions for the FAC seriously dropped from like a rock bottom of 10 or more entries a month with a diverse variety of people each month, to the same people contributing 6-8 entries tops. You can just guess when this change started happening. -Nick

I was wondering why my Wii got to be so blazing hot lately. It was even hot enough to warp the plastic slightly when I first touched it realizing it was hot. Funny thing, though, I never noticed it up until a few weeks ago that the heat of the blazing sun was inside my very own Wii. -Nick

QFT Why play crap when you can play good. Or work on a FAC entry.
-
Thanks. I think you'd be surprised as to how much I've transformed that into so much more in just a few short hours. Can't wait to finish. Even if I'm the only entry for this month I'm making it a commitment to finish the lineart at the very least to keep on the spirit of this competition. I just wish more people could do the same, but I understand even during summer some of us have lots to do (me on the other hand...) I really hope we can do something about this massive hiatus. D: This is far and away my favourite competition. -Nick

Not entirely sure I see what you're trying to say here. Elaborate?

Wondering the same thing myself. Also what about DVI? Me and my bro are thinking of investing in one of these while the opportunity's here.

Don't give up yet, man. A work-in-progress: WORK IN PROGRESS CLICKIE CLICKIE I was bummed that I couldn't finish for Castlevania month. So far that's what I'm going with but who knows what other fun Konami stuff I could throw in there by the time I'm finished. -Nick

I give a darn, but the only problem is I don't enter anything. I contribute to the problem. I either don't feel like entering (May), haven't had the time (June), or can't physically enter the competition this time around (I'm not going to be at home.) Poor excusesI know. D: Well except June cause of freaking exams. I apologize for contributing to the problem though. I opened up Photoshop a few days ago to get a start on something, anything, and hope it'll be tangible before FAC's deadline. I even TRIED in June but the work was too rough to actually submit because I didn't have the time (exams). I could even show you privately exactly how crap quality it was Atma. Maybe we just need to take action. I remember in a FAC thread like last month or something , someone (friendlyHunter I believe) had an elaborate post made out to try and support the competitions board, but everyone was too chicken to do it, even me. In the end I offered but got no response, not even from you Atma, so I just left it alone. We need to do something because this board just goes away ignored and I think that's the real problem. When we were in the regular board set we got a lot of entries, so what changed other than moving here honestly? We can sit here complaining in a lonely corner of the interwebs or we can actually TRY and push for some kinda change not to sound ridiculous or anything. But let's face it this place just keeps getting lonelier and the spirit of these competitions is part of what keeps me on OCR. Problem is that I can't feel arsed to contribute 100% to the competitions anymore if the competition is always the same dedicated people and that number keeps getting smaller. -Nick
