  1. According to the second link they just got a committed publisher which is probably why that target date is wrong. EDIT: Looking at the news section of their site, the last thing dated was for yesterday.
  2. Damn this looks hot. It looks like they've spent a ridiculous amount of time on this game already. Here's to hoping it'll be a great game, although there's a good chance get it just to support an indie developer who clearly knows a thing or two about what it is they're doing even if it does go below my expectations.
  3. I'm pretty pissed because I just pressed the back button after typing a shitload of stuff. Fuck. Anyhow, keep in mind the DS is manufactured with 2 screens: The first type has a smooth image and is more responsive. The second type is probably what you have on your DS: the screen colours are more vibrant, but the LCD crystals seem to have a sort of shimmeriness to them and the viewing angle is a little more narrow than the other type, not to mention the lag. The second type have a fraction of second of lag but it's extremely noticeable. When I got my first DS, I had the less responsive type, but had a dead pixel and returned it. I was fortunate enough to get the more responsive type of screen. Incidentally when I got my DS Lite I got the same less responsive type of screen but I had to return it because the microphone didn't work. I wouldn't find out until later that I just had my face too far into the mic. But anyhow, the second DS Lite I got out of it had the more responsive type once again. In regards to screen protectors, I've tried a few of them and here's what I have to say: The Hori ones are just not worth it. They're not very good and you have to pay a whole lot more just to get your hands on a set. The only upside is that you get a soft clean cloth out of it. If there's anyone anal about keeping their screens it good condition it'll probably be me. But the Hori protectors are made of some kind of rubbery plastic material with an odd texture that literally gives you less control over your stylus. There's more resistance required to move your stylus across the screen, but once you get it sliding it just slips all over the place. Tires your hands out more that way. Not only that, but if you wear down your stylus or get some dirt stuck on it the stylus will grate against the material causing huge, gaping scratches in the protectors. Kind of counter-intuitive. I got some $8 hard plastic protectors from EB for my DS Lite and they've been doing a much better job of lasting over the year I've had them. Just do a little research and make sure the type you buy comes off okay. Sometimes less is more.
  4. I've been keeping an eye on Folklore lately. Why is it that a couple publications like IGN give it a 90% and say it's a game that really delivers a whole lot of awesome while others give it 60-70% and just bash it? It's boggling my mind and it's probably the most drastic cases of separateness among reviewers I've ever had the eyes to see. Besides look and sound, is it worth getting for story and gameplay?
  5. I think a few pages back people were getting all worried about the new style, but I actually kind of like the new look. It looks like Intelligent Systems has an idea or two of what they're actually doing with the new look and it still seems to manage being able to distinguish itself. Fire Emblem DS looks like a winner in terms of its new art style too. Not as drastic as AW but it seems Intelligent Systems is going all across the board for getting rid of some of the softness.
  6. Funny that just a few days after ordering a PS3 with the intention of getting rid of the PS2, they announce this. I got a 60 gig so I technically could, but what I'm even more worried about is whether or not they're going to keep their PS1 emulator supported, regarding some of the PS1 games that don't quite work properly through the PS3's emulator. I imagine they'll keep PS1 support which is really all I'm concerned about. I mean, they offer PS1 games through the online store don't they? Considering how Son'ys been lately, apparently I'm a sucker for punishment to buy one of these things. Then again, a more mass-market friendly price could be just what they need to start moving some systems, but I'm not sure how successful they'll be making the decisions for the consumer in this case and might have been better off with 2 SKU's. Sony has to realize that $500-600, even if you're willing to pay that much like me or those of us who already own a PS3, is a lot harder to part with at the drop of a hat than $200-400 and the comfort of knowing the guaranteed future of your investment. Me and my bro, when we decided to get the PS3, did months of planning and research and it's not surprising to any of us the PS3 isn't moving very fast when there's such limited reasons to find appeal right now. When we bought our Wii on the other hand we really didn't have to think twice. -Nick
  7. Hah! So it turns out this is a universal problem with the Greatest Hits version of Chrono Cross. Go figure. Time to contact Square. On the bright side, all of my old unworking games now work due to the resurfacing.
  8. Thanks guys. I phoned up one of my local EB Games. I asked the guy if they knew where I could get my disc refurbished and they said they could only do it for games that you bought from EB and added their "Gameplay Guarantee" thing on top of it. I'm cool with that, but now what? Well, he was actually a really cool guy. He directed me to a place in my town, a hobbyist shop, where they do disc resurfacing for $3-4 or so per disc. I'm gonna take advantage of this because there's a couple other games I have that I'm worried I'm gonna run into the same problems (especially my DMC3 disc, ordered online, which popped out of the case while in transit and is scratched to shit but still plays fine so far), so I'll probably get them all resurfaced, and help out a small local business while I'm at it. I'll probably check them out some time this week.
  9. I hear ya. Halo has always been a fun multiplayer experience for me, but I think it's the people that make the experience and Halo that does a good job setting it up more than anything. So even though I don't think it comes anywhere close to being the best shooter out there it's a summation of all the parts that make it fun to play and the fact that it's a more simple shooter makes gives it mass appeal and thus you get the hype which yes, makes guys like you and me bust out that inner hate that these guys just love to get worked up about. The Halo 3 Mountain Dew ads and seeing Master Chief's face plastered over every electronics flier for the past month is where things started to get pretty ridiculous. It's not a system seller for me, but if I had a 360 I'd probably buy it just due to the fact that I have great friends to play with.
  10. I was playing Chrono Cross earlier today. As I worked through the story, and got to a particularly climactic part of the plotline, a cut scene started playing. Feverish with anticipation, I was clamouring to see what would happen next in this very intriguing story. About 10 seconds into the cut scene, it stops playing and freezes. I am enraged. So I take the disc out, look at the disc, and... well, it's not the prettiest disc but there's no scratches that are noticeably deep. I use a CD cleaner from Radio Shack that's worked wonders for my (very finicky) Wii Sports disc in the past, but in the end I get no luck. I rip open a package of one of my soft lens cleaners, wipe the disc in a straight line from the inside then outward, wait for it to dry, and pop the sucker back in. Again, no go. The game was new when I bought it. I purchased it last spring some time so I'm a little surprise the disc ran into problems so fast. I always take great care with my game discs, especially my PS1 games, so this has me a little chapped. I've been reading up on household recovery methods and I'm a little skeptical. I've read that polishing with a baking soda toothpaste can do wonders but I'm not confident enough to start polishing my disc unless I'm looking at last resorts, unless someone can tell me in a little more detail exactly how and why it's done. I've heard there are some places that have disc refinishers I might be able to use. This is what I'm particularly interested in more than any other method, because I have a knack of fucking up any household method offered to me. Does anyone know a place that'll let you pay to use one, or any places that specialize in refurbishing your discs? Extra points go out to ones those of you who might know of any in Canada. I've heard of rental stores and game stores letting you pay to use theirs in the US, but if there's one thing I've learned lately it's that Canadian branches of the same US-based business usually half-ass their services like whoa compared to their US counterpart. Anyone else have a similar experience before? I'm pretty cpnfident we've all had our fair share of scratched discs that didn't work before, but I'm wondering just how successful recovery can be, not to mention how I'd go about doing it. Most of mine in the past were just useless, temporary data CD's that I never really cried over. This time it sucks because this disc is a game I've been so engaged in lately. Besides, I'm sure I'm not the only one that can benefit from this knowledge. Thanks everyone, Nick
  11. you guys aren't alone me and my bro are probably getting a 360 or PS3 soon... the wii is cool but I feel left in the dirt with it right now in the past month the only thing that kept me on my Wii was Metroid Prime, but I'm close to finishing that... it's the first game which made me felt like I wasn't just thrown off to the side Mario Strikers is a fun multiplayer game but will only keep me coming back for as long as I have friends at my house or online willing to play... seriously underrated guys you should give it a rental maybe buy it, even if you're bitter about friend codes My PS2 has Guitar Hero, and possibly soon DDR, plus like 50 billion kajillion RPG's for both the PS1 and PS2. I've found that since I can find PS1 games for so cheap lately all I seem to do is play those. It's ridiculous. I just went to EB this weekend and spent like a couple of 10`s on some RPG's and that was that... I feel like this console generation was unnecessary to some degree on the bright side there's SSBB, Mario Galaxy, and some more hardcore games like GGXXAC coming so I'm still happy with my purchase, but Nintendo's gonna have to try harder because I'm a pretty easy person to please but even I'm kind of feeling like something big is missing
  12. Nice, I was waiting for that second one. Makes me wonder how they're going to handle Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
  13. don't call me an expert but I can't see how there's a very big difference between a modern LCD TV and an LCD monitor and your dad or whatever's probably just being a dick he's probably thinking of a non-digital projection TV or plasma or something -Nick
  14. hi gais i play shoters al l teh time I em a expert metroids am shooter k
  15. Well, sure we can stop. But we're probably not going to. Because that text book is fucking retarded and loses all credibility in my eyes if it seriously means to say they require multiplayer to be a "shooter". Looking at it in the context of English, does the term "shooter" even remotely or accurately represent, "something in which many people take part in the same or similar activity together"? Even if you were to look at the group of people who play shooters nobody, and I mean nobody, I know personally flies with "multiplayer" being a requirement in their definition. I'm not sure there's even really a way to properly interpret that textbook's definition of a shooter in this situation because it says it uses multiplayer as a "primary thrust," and "thrust" isn't really defined. It could mean it's A driving force in the genre. It could be THE driving force in the genre. It could be something to compel the market. What does 'thrust' mean? The entire definition itself is entirely moot unless that little bit is defined. I'm hard pressed to call that a credible source of definitions because it may only represent what the text book writers think should define something. In the case of Webster, or Oxford, they're institutions which intensively and extensively study language in their respective place and try their damnedest to make sure no contradictions are there and that slang like "thrust" doesn't confuse the reader. That's not to say this institution you're going to doesn't study things like that but they're not linguists. I wouldn't look toward them for a semantic debate even once. Just looking at the gaming market, there are plenty of single player games where you shoot shit. What do you call that? "A single player game where you shoot shit"? For the record I got tired of this little FPS debate a long while back, but using this textbook as a credible source, to me, is just not going to fly. -Nick
  16. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas first reply has the right idea too... Slevin's a little depressing but still a really fun movie, but Snatch and Lock Stock sounds like what you're looking for
  17. I've started to name my stuff after Castlevania characters. My PC is Alucard. I thought this was especially fitting because the paint is an elegant piano black finish, and in looks it's flashy in some ways but blank and withholding at the same time. So it made sense. I really should switch out the blue LED's in the front with red ones. My iPod is named Richter, but that was just to keep the theme going. Plus I like the name Richter.
  18. As far as I can tell, people I know my age tended to have had a NES or a friend with a NES when they were young, and I'm three years younger than both of you. We had a NES and Genesis and the NES was most of what I played growing up. I can whistle a tune from Mario 1 let's say, and people will instantly recognize the tunes, even chicks. Good looking chicks too. Nothing beats moments like when you get a good one-third of the class to start humming Mario tunes.
  19. you would k, this guy has editing skills I'll admit that now back to watching avgn
  20. On general principle I just don't buy anything other than Valve games on Steam. I already told myself that's all I'd get on Steam, and the fact that my friend got his Steam account jacked a little while back just makes me realize sometimes I'd rather have a physical copy of a game if that's a choice I can make.
  21. I watched the last set of vids on the night of the 16th (was like 10PM), and they said the 20th. They might've changed it some time before that, but other than that it's probably just your imagination.
  22. I used to use SmartFTP, but I found myself not even coming close to using a quarter of the features it offered. It's very robust and has a clean interface. I ended up settling for FileZilla... which is way tiny in file size and takes a fraction of the time to load up and get my files uploaded in 5 seconds and close it again. Simplicity. It's been said... but it gets the job done, it's just that may not be what you're looking for if you need something a little more powerful. Those two options are what I prefer. I've also used CuteFTP but I'm not really sure what it can do that the other two options won't have going for you. Do you still have to pay for this even? I dunno.
  23. Speaking of, what the eff is up with the fact that you can't use the CC for GCN games? I like the GCN controller like any other guy, but I'm not going to rebuy a set of GCN controllers for my Wii just to play my GCN games on wireless controllers. I understand it probably has to due with the Wii hardware pretty much switching off or into standby and then the Gamecube hardware taking over, but couldn't Nintendo conceivably still run the Wii hardware with some updated firmware overtop of the GCN hardware to give it some additional features like that? I'm not knowledgeable on the technical side of how something like that would work, but it seems possible on my basic understanding of things to keep some kind of enabler running in the background.
  24. Okay, let's call it a 'shared idea'. Nothing changes. Giving you a hard time comes from a gaping lack of foresight. I'm going to outline a few reasons why what you did is frowned upon: - the number of 'projects,' whether they be OCRemix's or personal attempts at realizing an idea, is annoyingly large right now. If you start up a project, it better damn-well be something wanted or fresh. Don't pull the 'it's a 100% personal thing' card, because if you try and support it via OCRemix, and it's accepted as such, it is an OCRemix project - you made it for a series that's not only had two projects, let alone one of those very ones having 'shared ideas' to your own idea... said project is very close to being realized - a respected member of this community heads up said project - you have a terrible history with lack of foresight, making you a target for personal amusement and taking it easy might be the best idea right now For the record, I had things to say long before Linkjing posted anything. He's pretty much right though. Please be smart about it. Your reputation's getting stale. I'm not trying to be an ass either, but keep this up and I'm not sure if a guy like me will be able to spell it out why you gone done fucked up. Being firm but reasonable seems to be the only option here. -Nick
  25. Mucho tasteless dude. You could have at least picked a different game series instead of taking someone's idea in nearly every aspect and adding a cherry on top. Way to spit in hard working people's faces just now.
