  1. Listened to this and read through the decisions. I think I'm pretty much where Vinnie is in my decision. It's really close, and you've added some good personalization here, but it feels just shy of where it needs to be. I think this could just use that little bit of spit polish in improving the automation and maybe consider switching out the vocal lead. I felt a little underwhelmed with the the low-mid presence while listening to this on speakers, so that might be something to address as well. Close! NO (resubmit, please)
  2. There are some really nice arrangement ideas in here, and I was really liking how you approached some of this. I like that you use the third day of Clocktown specifically, as it has the much more sinister overtones. I do think that the mix does get a bit long overall, and the cameos feel a bit out of place at times, especially when they aren't really fitting the style you were using earlier in the mix. It makes the track feel a bit to all-over-the-place. I think condensing the mix down a touch and adding a bit more focus would do it some good. The bigger issue here is the recording quality and the piano. The intonation is a bit painful, and overall the recording quality is a bit low. Along with that is that there's a lot of clipping in the louder sections that need to be addressed. I'd love you to get this into a daw and be able to tweak it to fix things up and get a really nice tone out of it. Really enjoyable to listen to, but it's gotta get fixed up before we can post it. NO (resubmit)

Remixer name: Spumph Real name: Jared Bean & Russel Anthony Email: userid: 52402 Games: Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask Name of arrangement: Storms Over Clocktown Songs arranged: Song of Storms, Clocktown Comments: This OCR account is managed by two people, myself, Jared Bean (Wumph), and Russel Anthony (Spud). I wrote the piece back in 2010, but I just recorded it in 2013 with Russel doing all of the producing work. Like most of my arrangements, it can be considered a little "over the top," but I'm rather fond of it and I hope you enjoy it! The bulk of the material comes from Song of Storms and Clocktown, and I've included snippets from other Zelda songs such as the original's Overworld and flute melody, Ocarina of Time's Zelda's lullaby, and Majora's Mask's Song of Healing. ------------ (Be aware they do use the variations in Clocktown, at least day 3)

When I discovered this OST, I was bewitched so this melody was beautiful. I could listen it in a loop, again and again. To tribute its great composer, I tried to make my own arrangement There are several influences in this mix: piano solo, exotic, dark symphonic, with some electronic elements and a rhythm thought in a metal style. I found interesting to combine these different styles. The title is owed to the two atmospheres I wanted to create in this mix, peaceful and exotic at the beginning and really dark with the final boss theme. Hoping you’ll enjoy this mix

A friend told me about this site and I had to see what this community is all about. I can't believe I didn't know about you guys sooner! This song in particular I've been wanting to make an arrangement of for a while. LttP was my very first video game and its music is very near and dear to my heart. Most everything I write now has some sort of 16-bittiness to it and it's all thanks to what this game started. FUN ZELDA FACT! In the opening sequence of the original SNES release, the people put in charge of sealing the gate to the Land of the Golden Power were called "the seven wise men". In the GBA rerelease it was changed to "the seven sages" to remain consistent with the rest of the series. But the gamers that were there from the beginning... We know... They're WISE MEN and no one can tell us otherwise! Leave it to a rerelease to destroy what you love. Aaaaand that's where I got the song title from. Enjoy thoroughly, -JAG ------------------
  7. Remixers: Chimpazilla - 45254 Kristina Scheps http://soundcloud.com/chimpazilla jordanrooben - 46229 Jordan Plutchok https://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben Game arranged: Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess Name of arrangement: “Hero’s Rest” Names of songs arranged: Boss Defeated theme Composers: Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota, Koji Kondo Chimpazilla’s comments: Jordan sent me his wip for this song, asking for a critique. Jordan has a great knack for capturing the feel of the source he’s arranging, so once again (as with our previous collab, Forest of Purple Mist), I fell in love with his arrangement and unique ideas, and I asked if I could join in. After many hours spent, and many changes, improvements, arrangement expansions and new ideas added, this is the result. At this point Jordan and I are both thrilled with it. This is Jordan’s vision for the song: Morpheel has just been defeated, Link is exhausted from the battle and the rigors of the water temple, the fused shadow piece is floating on the ground and Midna is hovering nearby, it's one step closer to saving the world, but ruin is still around the corner and to make matters worse, the journey is far from being over. You catch your breath, listen to the music, and plan your next move. Source breakdown: This very simple source has two basic parts to it which were used in the remix. I’ll call these: Part 1: arps from 0:04 to 0:20 Part 2: melody from 0:21 to 0:31 Remix Source Seconds 0:35 - 0:43 (lead) Part 2 8 0:43 – 0:47 (lead) Part 1 4 1:14 - 1:20 (lead) Part 1 6 1:20 – 1:42 (lead) Part 2 22 1:42 – 1:46 (lead) Part 2 4 1:53 – 1:58 (flute countermelody) Part 2 5 1:58 – 2:04 (flute countermelody) Part 1 6 2:26 – 2:42 (lead) Part 2 16 2:42 – 2:48 (lead) Part 1 6 2:48 – 2:58 (chord prog & flute countermelody) Part 2 10 3:10 – 3:26 (lead) Part 2 16 3:26 – 3:32 (lead) Part 1 6 3:35 – 3:51 (flute countermelody) Part 2 16 3:51 – 3:57 (flute countermelody) Part 1 6 3:57 – 4:13 (lead) Part 2 16 Total seconds of source usage: 147 seconds Song is 4:27 or 267 seconds Source usage is 55.1% I realize this is a fairly liberal arrangement, as would be necessary with a short source such as this. I left out some source usage that I didn’t think we could justify, although the entire track was written with the source components fully in mind. Hopefully you will enjoy it and agree that we’ve captured the feel of the original! As a bonus, 0:02 to 0:20 contains actual Twilight Princess sfx: Link huffing, hearts refilling, Midna “talking,” and actual Morpheel ambience. 4:21 to 4:25 is the Twilight Princess “warp out” sfx. If that helps.
  8. Was a bit torn on whether or not to direct post this or not. I think the arrangement is excellent: great interpretation of the theme in terms of the style as well as some good rhythmic change-ups. The track sets a good tempo that drives the feeling of being determined and that's backed up well by the rhythmic section. I felt like there were some sections that the lead guitars could have been a bit more forward in the track, and the balance wasn't quite where it should have been, which is why I went for paneling this instead. Hopefully the other more production-heavy judges can offer some advice for you for future submissions. Great listen! YES

Contact Information: Remixer name: Nanaki's View Real name: Chris Holland Email address: Website: www.chrishollandmusic.net User ID: 52385 Submission Information: Name of game arranged: Final Fantasy VII Name of my remix: "Eyes Of A Soldier" Name of individual song arranged: Judgement Day Composer: Nobuo Uematsu Game was released on Playstation, PC Link to original track from game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfg3NmQFg-0 Comments on the mix: To me, "Judgement Day" evokes hope and courage. I tried to retain the emotion of the original track, while adding to the intensity by remixing it in a hard rock/metal style. The intro and guitar solo section are original, and I changed some of the rhythms as well.
  10. I can see Larry's crits, but I don't think they're dealbreakers in the mix compared to how fun the arrangement is. Really enjoyed listening to this, and loved the tasteful use of offbeats and sound effects. I think some of the other more production-heavy judges might be on Larry's side, and I wouldn't mind an update myself, but I am fine with this on the front page as-is. YES
  11. Yeah, gonna have to agree on the source usage here. I can hear the connection between the chords, but I feel like that's not enough to really keep it cemented as a remix as opposed to an 'inspired by'. I'll also echo the thoughts on more variation. I love trumpet(and we trumpet players loooooove to be in the spotlight 100% of the time), but even my ears get a bit tired of the noodling after a while. Some more change-ups will let the trumpet shine more when it's featured, and give the other instruments a chance, too! Really good start, and I think it's easily modified to fit into our standards more with some more melodic connection. Hope to hear more from you! NO (resubmit)
  12. Yeah, agreed with all of the above about the compression. I think it's toeing the line here, but I think that alone is a pass, though a bit close overall. I listened to the 3:54 part in particular with and without headphones, and I think it's another one of those 'on the bar' moments. It could definitely stand to be brought down a touch, but I think it passes the bar as is. The arrangement is a lot of fun, and I enjoyed listening to it through. I felt like there was a lot of movement; the track didn't feel as long as it was. There's a lot of elements going back and forth that keep things interesting as well. Between the issues and the good stuff I think this squeaks by, though it's really close. I could see this going either way. Good luck! YES (borderline)
  13. This group is going to be the new hotness. Jooj-cat is loving his new role. He's getting ready for stardom!
  14. I think the genre shift works pretty well, and Cid's theme definitely can be pretty badass in metal. Right now the track is pretty much a cover of the theme, so I'd love you to work on adding more arrangement into the track. Adjusting the melody in more sections, and maybe working on some original sections to break the repetitions up would be a good start. Production wise I felt the drums were a bit flimsy overall, especially on the snare and crash cymbal. There's a lot of room reverb in them, which compared to the guitars doesn't fit. The strings are also very stiff, so some adjustment there would be great. I think you can bring up the bass a touch more to get some more presence and give the track a bit more of a badass feel. The 2:10 section feels like the chords aren't quite right, so I'd go back and check out that section to make sure everything is kosher. Good start here, but it needs work. Definitely do some work on the arrangement to vary things up and make it less repetitive, and look into your balance/production. Good luck! NO
  15. I was told you might like this. I've listened to some other remixes. I think you will find this one pretty nice. You can download both songs at the bottom if you hover over each individual track and hit the download button at the far right. --------------
  16. There are a lot of crits here that I agree with. The thing that I noticed the most was the balance between the parts. I felt at times that sound effects and drums were drowning out some of the more melodic sections. I'd love to hear a re-balance of this to get things to be a bit more audible. The arrangement does get a bit side-tracked a couple times, but I felt overall that it was clever and fun. I also agree that the sound effects were a bit random at times, but there were plenty of moments where they fit well. Maybe go through with a fine-toothed-comb and find the most appropriate sections to use it? I think this is close, but I'm going to go on the NO side here. Really would love a touch-up, and I think you can get this through easily if you do! Good luck! NO (resubmit, please)
  17. I was considering this for a DP, but I'm having a bit of a tough time wrapping my brain around the source usage and would love some help. - Deia Contact Information Vortigon Ziggy Leidelmeyer https://soundcloud.com/vortigon userid: 47351 Submission Information Spelunky A Super Splunky Discovery Main Theme, Cave PC Windows, game made by Derek Yu. Original Soundtrack: For me Spelunky is one of those games that is timeless. But the thing that has always stuck with me was the music of the first area, namely the cave. I never got tired of dying since I would just end up listening to that some more. For my remix I tried going for a more mysterious vibe meets adventure compared to the original. Submission I'm sending the song as an attachment.

I was pretty nervous to working out of my usual rock/metal style, but it was fun regardless. I've discovered the power and flexibility of synths, even had to learn a bit about synthesis programming myself. Couldn't help myself and included a little section of guitar solos, I'm sorry if that annoyed anyone, heh. Inspirations include Alexander Brandon, Karl Jenkins, Fukui Kenichiro and the time spent in the night clubs (not that much of it though). --------------
