maybe you might have better luck looking for .wav samples instead of soundfonts?

Chrono Trigger - Ruins of Dome 16 ReMix
Robotaki replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Thanks for the comments so far. I've been having a little trouble trying to get more of the source into the piece right now because the only aspect I've taken is the bass (and it was the bass line in the original that was the most striking to me when I first heard it) Any nifty ideas? So far I've tried raising the ostinato in higher registers but it doesn't sound appropriate. Thanks! -
Gonna try and beat Fester's Quest for the NES this year.

a letter from gf from korea, sent one back, and jamaican dinner with family (yeah my dad's chinese jamaican lol) aki and saltfish! oh and I guess this soundtrack I bought online for myself came in around christmas...sorta counts? other than that, nothing huge. the sword and shield in earlier posts if bloody amazing btw.

So I finally got FL Studio 8 and it's sooo much easier to work with. Came up with this lil "Manoria Cathedral"-esque remix but for the Ruins of Dome 16 source tune. This tune seems to be relatively untouched. (I think Beatdrop is the only other who has one on the site) It's really bare as of right now, but I'm just getting the ideas down and the overall feel; ?emptiness?. This section is not the beginning so don't expect a smooth entry lol. It's a tad repetitive right now, but you have to admit, the source tune itself is pretty repetitive haha, anyway, no excuses. I hope you enjoy it! This tid bit took way too long to make, I don't even know why. =/ *oh kudos to Skrypnyk for the piano effect trick he told me about a long long time ago haha. FL 5 kicks major ass man. Yeah Christmas is around, along with the new year's revelation; maybe it's about time to *buy* FL 8. Buy's a scary word. Oh yeah I converted the files to .wav but they slice differently for some reason. Lame. Thanks anyway!

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with FL Studio 5. For some reason, the program refuses to read .mp3s that I import into the browser or beat slicer. As a result, a lot of the percussion loops in .mp3 format that I used aren't working anymore. It seems as if FL Studio suddenly changed to only read .wav files. Whenever I try to import an mp3, it says Loading (filename).mp3 but doesn't play back at all when I try to play the sample in the program. The same goes for when I try to slice the .mp3 in the Fruity Slicer. No slices are made and there is no playback whatsoever. I hope I've been clear enough on my problem. Any thoughts, solutions? Thanks a bunch!

Chrono Trigger - Manoria Cathedral ReMix
Robotaki replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Thanks for the comments guys. One thing I'm sort of having an issue with is keeping this within the site's guidelines for file size. Encoding it at 128 kbps doesn't quite cut it either. I'll try variable encoding tomorrow. If worse comes to worse I'll cut out repetitive sections. (I'd really like the cathedral organs I've put in here to come out more since they're pretty much unnoticeable right now. They show up at 4:48 and 6:43 with a lot of stereo separation.) Anyway, thanks again! This track'll probably be my first submission to the panel when it's all set, and you guys have really helped. -
Chrono Trigger - Manoria Cathedral ReMix
Robotaki replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Haha I can't believe this thing got bumped after a couple of months. But since exams just finished yesterday, I had 1 night and 1 morning of the break to work on this a little bit. I hope I changed things for the better. The drums were the main focus on this update, mainly because they were a lacking the oooooomph! Added a new harmonic section that I thought sounded kinda neat. Hope you guys like the changes ^^ Happy Friggin Holidays, so happy exams are over. - Hemophiliac helpfully on mIRC just pointed out some rough transitions that need smoothing out around 4:30 so I'll get on to those asap. - Sorry for not encoding the whole track, I fouled up. Chrono Trigger - Chrono's Theme ReMix
Robotaki replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
mhmm, using squidfont orchestral samples for the strings, brass, piccolo, woodwinds. The choir sample used is terrible but a little layering made it sound less tinny. Oh, and I'll lower the volumes on the drums. They're a little jarring like you guys have said. Thanks for the comments everyone! -
Chrono Trigger - Chrono's Theme ReMix
Robotaki replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hey everyone. Long time since an update, and I'm afraid to say despite all that time, this is only a small update from the original. I've inserted more of the source into the remix, added a few instruments here and there, lowered a few volumes on percussion mainly, and a other minute things I can't remember off the top of my head. I had to encode this at 128 kbps because I needed to do a bit of cutting from the beginning of the track through Audacity. I recognize that it is quite loud at the moment, so the next few days I'll be playing with volumes. Apologies, but still hope you like it! *Updated link in first post* -
hey hobo! I have to make this quick because of schoolwork but the first thing that juts out to me is the decision to put delay on the drums. While it does somewhat add to the whole ambiance thing you're trying to create, It comes off as being a little too sparse and unpredictable. In terms of EQing, I can't provide anything specific for exact frequencies, but it seems like the drums, choir, and piano bass note (which is panned too far right imo) are overlapping too much in the middle frequencies. The compressor on the master track is trying to compensate a bit too much. I'm not familiar with the source unfortunately, but I could totally hear the harmonies you're using with some sort of cathedral organ...very DMC like. lol I'm just thinking out loud now, best stop when I can. Keep at it!

Whoa it's the original composer! Means a whole lot to me to get kudos from you =) Haha, talking about epic titles, I don't really have any ideas for this one. I mean, "Tor" is already pretty killer as is (as is TORonto booya). So yeah, if you have any ideas that would be great. Glad you liked it! I'm hoping I can get some better string samples lol.

yeah I sort of agree. the reflector became less of a strategic thing in the middle of a gunfight because it took so damn long to charge up. the only time you could use it was when guys would fire over your head with a heavy weapon so you could have time for it to reload. still, doesn't detract from the action much at all. =p

Thanks for the helpful comments everyone! This is one of the few things I think I have complete at 5 minutes so hopefully it'll pass the mark? I feel like it just sorta ends too suddenly after the climax and needs time to release tension before ending. In my first post is the updated version, and just because I'm nice I'll put it here too =p Hope you like it! Iji - Trailer Theme ReMix You know, I might actually submit this if it fits the guidelines and whatnot... Oh and I'm huge on putting live instruments into music but have no hardware to do it whatsoever. So first of all, would this remix benefit from having a live...let's say, cello somewhere like....1:52? just curious. even possibly consider an electric guitar for that matter, because it seems like that instrument was a popular aspect of the original.

Hehe, shotty The game's got great music. oh, and the gameplay is kickass too. the only thing that was a little bit of a drawback so far was that I can't jump and shoot at the same time. but then again, it makes you "think" before tanking through a bunch of enemies on a platform above you, which is always good =) thanks for posting!

Hey guys! So this one came off really quickly as soon as I saw this thread about Iji, a game that is extremely high quality, especially considering it's price of $0. I hesitate to call this a remix right now because I haven't done ANY interpretation of the original piece. It's more of a cover at the moment. I just want to see if you dig a shift to an orchestral genre of the theme. As always, balancing issues and the limiter is struggling to keep this within non-ear bleeding dB, so apologies. I'll get to that asap. Enjoy! Link: Iji - Tor Theme ReMix UPDATES [7:51PM - September 13, 2008] - included new section at 1:52. (used the sine motif from the 'new sector' track atarting at 2:11) - varied drums slightly. - increased range on velocities of marcato strings and staccato notes to emphasize accents. - removed pad in the background at 1:33. [3:51PM - September 14, 2008] - added a quiet repeating dulcimer-like synth at 1:15. - varied drums even more. - slightly changed up a few chords on the marcatos of the strings. - lowered frequencies around 500 Hz on the marcato strings. - added some funky transition FX. - added an ending? - overall balancing where I found issues. Thanks for the comments everyone! Here's just a little one-hour-work update. The harmonies don't really change at all so the track seems to drag on. I'm hoping that I can eventually change this into a track that maintains the same harmonies but manages to stay interesting. Enjoy! (The piano STILL comes in too suddenly. Sorry >.< Forgot to fix it. Plus percussion hasn't varied yet...yay) LINK (updated in first post as well): Chrono Trigger - Time Circuits ReMix

Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I've touched music because of summer school and being away from home. Here's a little something put together the second I got home. Hopefully it doesn't sound like too much rust has built up on my brain. I know, what a source tune to tackle after a break haha. I understand how difficult it is now to get a mix for this source accepted due to the sheer number of remixes already on the site, but I think it's reasonably a different take on the theme (which comes in around 1:49.) I've also tried to incorporate one of the motifs from the theme that plays in the intro of the game. The segment so far is really short so there may not be much to comment on at the moment. But please tell me if you dig the atmosphere and direction =) Cheers! LINK: Chrono Trigger - Time Circuits ReMix (listening through it myself, the piano at 0:28 comes in a bit harshly to my ears. I'll get on to fixing the entrance.)

Robotaki replied to Jillian Aversa's topic in General Discussion
I wish for the best and am extremely grateful that everyone has been as supportive as possible so far. A huge meetup at MAGFEST would be crazy amazing so get better man! (It'd also be the first time I'm allowed to go) To Jade, your devotion to Jordan is admirable to anyone. The both of you, stay strong! -
Just wondering. will there ever be any plans to create a "teaser" track with small snippets of what we have in this project?
