  1. The problem I see with Sakuraba judging from his Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4 OSTs is that he starts sounding very generic.
  2. The only real problem I see with the Tales series(from what I've played of it) is that other than the battle system, the crafting, synthesis and other elements just feel unrealized. They managed to keep my interest with a nice world, great battle system, and the cliched crap I love, but it sure would feel nice if all the systems in the game didn't feel so superfluous.
  3. Ok this shit right here? It needs to stop. Neither version is going to be superior. Yes it's true that FFXIII was developed with the PS3 IN MIND. The fact of the matter is that Crystal Tools(the engine that SE touts as their next-gen toolset) is a dev kit for multiplatform game development, in which all their games are developed on PC FIRST, then "optimized" for the systems they're releasing on. The idea that the 360 or PS3 version will be superior to the other is flat out wrong and laughable. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that will be a boon for PS3 will be the storage size of bluray, which will allow for uncompressed audio and video, which is great if you're an A/V enthusiast who'll spend serious green on the kind of set up really necessary to take advantage of that bonus. Square-Enix isn't going to tap into "the power of the cell" to make the game as amazing as some think, and they never planned on it even before the 360 announcement. Right now it's anyone's guess as to how it'll compare in sales due to a higher PS3 install base and a lower price on the system. But most people who only own 360s probably aren't going to buy a PS3 just for this. And yes, Square-Enix is going to put an end to Tetsuya Nomura's endless Sony fanboyism and demand that he go multi-plat with Versus once they see the comparable sales figures for XIII on the 360. Apologies for the rant, but this shit is getting old.
  4. Considerable drop in the main series after X? Final Fantasy XI, X-2, and XII would like to have a word with you. Anyway, from everything I've heard about this game, it's probably the most story-focused JRPG in existence. It also does away with A LOT of the bullshit of other JRPGs, such as getting rid of pointless towns and any illusions of non-linearity, allowing you to restart battles and healing you after any battle which allows for much greater strategy, as battles are supposed to be pretty tough. Being able to save anywhere would have been a nice plus, but oh well. The soundtrack is supposed to be epic(Hamauzu's final work as a SE employee), the battle system fast-paced and strategic(no "push A to win" bullshit), and the characters, story, and visuals to be superb. The game is late as hell all things considered, but March is going to be exciting.
  5. It'll be localized. It could be one of the big Wii RPGs of the year. Bamco isn't going to want to miss out on that train. Of course I'm buying it used out of principle though.
  6. So what I wonder would constitute a significant paradigm shift from the standard Zelda formula? I think I would agree that non-linearity would probably be a good thing to bring back, maybe just have scenarios a la Mass Effect and let you choose your destination, and the events fall into place that way, but then I worry that the narrative wouldn't be as spectacular. Then I ask myself, is narrative REALLY important to the series? What I feel are most important to me are the items, their functionality, practicality, and "funness" of use, as well as engaging sword combat and exploration in an open, and damned pretty and detailed world that I don't want to leave. I feel that Twilight Princess gave me a lot of that. For a game to hold me to the point where I just want to ride ma horse, clobber some goblins, go fishing and find all it's secrets, well that's saying something.
  7. Oh nevermind. I haven't played Wind Waker in like forever.
  8. Possible tracks would include: Outset Island Faron Woods Goron Mine Castle Town Avenue Woodfall Swamp Termina Raceway Water Temple Lost Woods Romani Ranch(complete with aliens and cows) Lake Hylia Tal Tal Heights Misery Mire Water Temple(would be everyone's most hated track) Forsaken Fortress Dodongo's Cavern Tower of The Gods Twilight Realm Tower of Hera Temple of Seasons Turtle Rock(with a cameo by a koopa troopa) Ambi's Tower Martha's Bay Animal Village Sacred Realm Hyrule Castle Sewers Death Mountain Great Palace Thieve's Town Snowhead Gerudo Desert Arbiter Grounds Subrosia
  9. I made the last thread. I'd hate to revive the bilefest, but to keep things short, her song doesn't fit, and it's annoying that SE feels that they needed to change the song to make it "marketable" to a more western audience. I also doubt the head composer wanted the change either.
  10. I'm really doubtful we'll see 3 major Nintendo titles in the same year, and Zelda will probably be delayed into 2011 if anything. Here's to hoping though.
  11. Tales of Graces Final Fantasy XIII Final Fantasy XIV Super Street Fighter IV Blazblue: Continuum Shift Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of The Moon Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Halo: Reach Metroid OtherM Resident Evil 5 DLC I'd be more interested in No More Heroes 2 if I knew more about it, and Bayonetta/Dante's Inferno just don't interest me at all.
  12. I'm gonna go ahead and just say it. Fuck "hardcore gamers". Seriously. Fuck those elitist pricks. If a game is fun, it's fun. If it's not, then stay the fuck away from it, but don't belittle someone's experience by saying they're tasteless shitheads for liking something like Bejeweled or Peggle as opposed to something like Dragon Age or Halo 3: ODST. Laziness? If by laziness you mean putting out solid experiences time after time, then I guess so. It's not Nintendo's fault 3rd parties are trying to cash in on the success of stuff like Wii Sports and Wii Fit without adding any of the depth to their titles.
  13. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. If you like Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica, as well as light gun shooters, then this is the game for you. The only problem one might have with it is the shaky camera, but I love this game and you all should too.
  14. Holy GOD, people. They're both going to be the same exact game. The only difference between the two will be multiple discs on the 360 version. All that crap about either version being superior? That's PR spin. Give it a rest already. This is also the first/last time I post in this thread. I can't handle the inevitable spoilers.
  15. I guess if Gears of War or Uncharted ain't on the system, it's crap. There are PLENTY of games on the Wii worth grabbing(or at the least interesting), and I'm not even counting all the stuff on WiiWare/Virtual Console.
  16. All right gang, so I'm having a connectivity problem with a friend of mine, and I'm sure it's because she needs to have the proper ports forwarded, but I have no idea which ports I'd have to open for the DS/Wii to be able to connect with no problem. Can anyone help with this?
  17. Nobody dies in their bathroom at age 32 from "natural causes"... On that note, I guess it sucks for the family. I never gave much of a crap about her "acting".
  18. I guess the real experience is watching it in 3D, 'cause I'm not sure what's supposed to be groundbreaking about it. It was pretty good-looking and yeah, it was basically Dances with Wolves mixed with Ferngully with a futuristic spin on it, but I still don't see why people and the media are going nuts over it.
  19. So I bought a Wii for myself yesterday. I do not understand all the hate for this system. Mario Kart Wii alone is most excellent fun, and if I can get my mom and stepdad interested in gaming(Wii Sports Tennis, Boxing, and Mario Kart), well that's some big win in my book. Too bad I can't find that many people to play Echoes of Time with. Also double post. Also Also the universal component cables I bought for the Wii/PS2 really helped out the image. Still a tad blurry, but that's standard def for ya. Nothing terrible, though. I likes what I sees.
  20. Well right now I'm using S-Video with my PS2, and while it IS blurry, it isn't impossible to deal with as the picture is(relatively) decent to me... If component with the Wii is even just a few notches above that, then I'm sure I'll be just fine.
  21. Well they started Crystal Tools development after they were effectively "done" with the PS2, so anything pre-FFXIII would have to be redone for the PC, but as for FFXIII and everything after? Perfectly able to make PC releases no problem. It's also interesting because this is the first time we'll see a Japanese developer creating their own next-gen dev tools, use them for multiple games, and license the tools out aside from Capcom and their MT-framework.
  22. Alright so I'm grabbing a Wii next week, and I have a tech question. I know the Wii is limited to 480p with component, and my experience with my PS2 and standard composite(480i) on my HDTV has been full of blurry visuals. If I were to buy a set of component cables for my Wii, would it still have a pretty blurry picture or not?
  23. Well to be fair here, Final Fantasy XIII(as all SE games using Crystal Tools) was developed for PC first, and then optimized for the PS3 and 360 hardware respectively once development was complete. Which is why it's so odd to me that they haven't mentioned anything about a PC release since basically every next-gen game they make already has a PC version now. Egads I want that soundtrack.
  24. Man o man, versus is so damned satisfying this time around. I've actually formed a pretty fun versus group over the weekend on live, and we just go at it all the time. It's so funny to see at least 2 of the opposing team drop out after totally decimating them literally seconds after the leave the safe area of chapter 1 on Dead Center. The spitter blocks their path, a jockey grabs an unsuspecting one and takes him over the edge, then when the others go to help, a hunter pounces on one and the charger knocks another one right out the window... Such versatility. It's great. Playing as survivors is a lot of fun as well with the addition of so many new weapons. Seriously satisfied with this game.
  25. ...Schwaltzwald, where the hell do you keep getting these awesome images!?
