OCR01988 - Wave Race 64 "Serenity's Wake"
OceansAndrew replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love this theme so much- this is a really done rendition of it as well, with a lot of subtle, and some not-so-subtle shifts and additions to it. I think there is a bit too much panning for headphones, as the middle feels a bit neglected, but there are so many cool things going on throughout, that all that use of space lets you distinctly hear each thing individually. Really great upbeat stuff, just my thing, and having it done so well is awesome. Nice work indeed! PS. Another great version of this theme was done a few months back at DoD by Scaredsim and Harjawaldar. Really nice stuff as well, but very different. here -
OCR01986 - Mega Man 2 "Cold Metal"
OceansAndrew replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
That snare is way loud in certain frequencies, not sure why I didn't mention it in the judging thread. I'd like to have heard more vibrato too- nice explanation on that though- makes sense to me. Good arrangement, as per usual, however. -
Pretty smooth stuff, and hold up well. It's pretty obvious that your guitar technique has improved since this, but this track is still pretty great. Excellent flow, and it doesn't drag; it definitely doesn't feel like almost 6 minutes have passed since I first hit play. Good stuff.

OCR01984 - Secret of Mana "Step Off My Flower Bed"
OceansAndrew replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Very energetic and it evokes a lot of different time periods for me. It has a great and cool blend of nostalgia that speaks to me. Some great twists thematically, and the instruments shift and cycle in some unexpectedly cool ways. That bass is like, the blue ribbon winner at the state fair. It can go on the pedestal next to the 150 lb pumpkin and Farmer Herrick's best pig. Awesome stuff. -
hellion sounds would be unstoppable if they used shreddage (now on sale!).

In search for a sax or trumpet/trombone player
OceansAndrew replied to Locutus's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
Good on you for looking for help, Locutus! Your arrangement is awesome and i've love for the track to be on OCR. Neblix is right that Brad is a great sax player- definitely give him a try; tell him you have my seal of approval. If he's too busy (and he might be), i'll give it a shot myself. -
Hope you have a great birthday!

*NO* Pokémon Red Version 'Hope to See You Again Soon...'
OceansAndrew replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Judges Decisions
go ahead and vote on it. -
I have an oldish mix that i'm going to be fixing up and improving sometime this year- http://dod.vgmix.com/past/mar08/02tie-HopeFails-DariusTwin-Fish-DoD.mp3 I agree that the music of this game is awesome. One of the first few games I would leave the sound test on repeat while I played with legos or something as a kid.

The outside video looks like the gameplay is a little slow-moving, but this is an awesome surprise of a game that i'll be picking up this weekend.

Ask the Mass Effect 2 Composers! Congrats BGC!

Who actually lead the team and the creative vision of the soundtrack? Was that Jack? How much input and direction was given by the studio and product management? How were duties assigned, and was there much, if any collaboration? -
Dragon Warrior Project - Claim tracks, send WIPs, yeah?
OceansAndrew replied to Monobrow's topic in Projects
this is unrelated to this project, but since we are posting dragons, here is one I am working on: http://www.oceansend.com/00-art/current/my%20dragon-let%20me%20show%20you%20it.jpg -
These trailers look awesome, I hope it comes out in the US! The second one was specifically badass. The environments are pretty and varied, the puzzles look really fun, and the combat looks good too. Definitely something i'll be watching for!

1:12-1:40 supposedly has B section source in the piano. I'll edit this with revisions after re-listening. -
Weeping Shards Arrangement of: Crystal World (Final Fantasy IX), Terra (Final Fantasy IX), To the End of the Wilderness (Wild Arms) ReMixed by: Kenogu Labz (Nathan Armstrong) User ID: 24234 Comments: This song is based off of one of the best themes in Final Fantasy IX: Crystal World. It's an eerie rendition of The Prelude, replete with some of the most haunting harp you'll ever hear. But the original song never pushed the original melody of The Prelude, so I decided to mix the two together, and this is what came out. I also mixed in a little To The end of the Wilderness, because Crystal World was feeling lonely. This is a tracked song, so the style is pretty calm. Most noticeably, the guitar teases until the end, when it breaks out in full. The mix is intended to be chilling, with brief flashes of uplifting emotion. Have fun listening! ReMixer name: Dustin Branscum Real Name: Dustin Branscum Website: http://www.myspace.com/dustinbranscum Forum User ID: 24328 Name of game arranged: Red Zone Name of songs arranged: 'Title Music' and 'Night Mission' Original composer: Jesper Kyd System: Sega Genesis Release Year: 1994 Additional comments: (Copied from my YouTube page) This is a remix of "Title Music" and "Night Mission" from Red Zone for Sega Genesis. The original song was composed by Jesper Kyd, whose work on the Sega Genesis is arguably the biggest influence on my overall guitar style. This remix is still a work-in-progress and may change with feedback from the OverClocked ReMix community. As it stands now, though, I'm really happy with this version and hope the changes I have to make, if any, will be minor. I did this mix for two reasons. Firstly, to pay homage to the game composer who not only made, in my opinion, the best soundtracks ever to grace the Sega Genesis, but also had such a major influence on how I write music and play guitar. I grew up playing songs from Red Zone, Sub-Terrania, and The Adventures of Batman and Robin, and it's safe to say that Jesper's work has had more of an impact on my guitar style than even my favorite bands, if only slightly. The remix was done to fit the metalcore genre, which is the style of music I am most familiar with playing. I was on a really big August Burns Red kick before writing this mix, so it ended up influencing the final product a lot. The other reason for making the mix is I'd like to submit the track for OverClocked ReMix, a video game music arrangement community that I have been a huge fan of since '04. To get a remix accepted by the judge's panel is one of my highest musical goals. The track was recorded in FL Studio 8, and finished up in Audacity. The drums are programmed using a tweaked FPC preset. The guitar I used was a Schecter Tempest Custom with EMG 81/85 pickups. The bass is a Squier P-Bass. Both the guitar and bass were recorded through a TonePort UX2. The sounds are from Soundsnap.com. I posted this song a little while ago in the WIP section, and didn't get any responses. But the original composer liked it, which really boosted my moral about submitting this remix. source: source 2:

For a game I've never played it's one I definitely want to, the soundtrack is great and much under-represented!

Needs a new title and a smaller file size if it passes Remixer name: Block35 User Id: 30777 Website: http://www.youtube.com/user/shprotanu Full name: Mihai Protopopescu Game Arranged: Tyrian Song Arranged: Tyrian: The Song Hi! This is my first submission to OverClocked ReMix. Hope my track makes it About the track: It's a remix of the song you hear in the main menu of Tyrian. The original music is done by Alex Brandon. The Tyrian soundtrack along with the Pinball series music by Olof Gustafsson are my favorite game tunes if not some of my favorite songs in general, not just from video games. I also love House music: fast beats and strong kicks that make you want to dance or at least shake your head up and down as you're speeding on the highway... As an artist or producer that's the mood that I'm trying to achieve. I just had to put those awesome Tyrian melodies on a House beat. I changed some of the arrangement too, just to fit with the genre and fooled around with the melodies and bass line a bit. This is not an attempt to "improve" the original music. The original song is great and I love the way the sound card's synth has been tweaked to create those awesome out of this world sounds... This is something different altogether, just a club track that draws inspiration from Tyrian. Hope you guys like it! source:

Might be DP material, but it's a newcomer, so i'm paneling it to be safe. Your ReMixer name: blackguitar Your userid (number, not name) on our forums, found by viewing your forum profile: I have one, but I cannot retrieve my password. Username is the same as the ReMixer name. Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged: Metroid Prime Name of individual song(s) arranged: Track Number 2 from the OST / “Menu Select” Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: This remix had been planned and begun nearly six years ago when I was making my first experiences with software synthesizers. The actual mix was now made from scratch again. The three main parts of the melody are subject to differ each time they appear in order to remain interesting, although I like the natural catchiness of the tune. When I played the game, I liked the constant feeling of being lonely against the hordes of enemies. In my opinion is this what the melody delivers. Nothing could sound more tragic like a heavy metal ballad, so here is my remix. I hope it is accepted. source:

OCR01473 - Super Metroid "Brinstar Bonsai Garden"
OceansAndrew replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
pretty interesting stuff that has a lot of surprises; with the intro, I was expecting a more electronic take on the source, but then it turns into a jazz combo with a fiddle or something lead. Nice piano comping and solos, and a cool rotary epiano mix well with the drums and bass. Not my favorite style, but still some pretty strong work. -
OCR01395 - Artura "Dublin Delight"
OceansAndrew replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Really a fun mix, and not one that i'd really expect to hear on OCR, so that is a definite plus. Good production, a fun lyrical tale, and it gets the job done that it sets out to do. Short and sweet, this is definitely more of a mood-setter, but the quality is definitely there. -
OCR01276 - Donkey Kong Country 2 "Set Sail"
OceansAndrew replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Pretty pleasant work here, I enjoyed the adventurous melody and the transitions between sections. The use of free samples was very well done, and the level of work put into them was very nice. Strong articulations and nice humanization. I like this one. -
OCR01249 - Donkey Kong Country 2 "From Within"
OceansAndrew replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Definitely a liberal mix, but one that's really effectively handled. It has a really nice classic rock sound, and some good transitions. This is a really nice sound, and is pretty timeless. Really great work here.
