  1. This has a lot of initial similarities to Snappleman's mix of the same source initially, but it does branch out and do a lot of unique things on it's own. Production got a touch cramped i the low mids, but overall it was clear and punchy, with very nic eguitar performances. The modulation section at 1:45 was pretty, though I managed to lose the tonal center a few times. The shift to a clean breakdown, and then super harmonized head was great, and throughout this while track is a lot of great detail with a punchy ending. I think this was really well executed, and i'm hoping you submit more similar wuality material to the site. yes
  2. This improves a lot of the crits in decent ways, and while overall it feels stiff in places, i think it's a good evolution of a track i've alrady yessed. yes
  3. 8 string guitars are for weaklings. If you don' t have AT LEAST 11 strings on your guitar, tuned to low Z, you aren't really metal. Seriously though, the only issue i have with this is that the leads are a little lost underneath the brutality of the polys. Great playing in the rhythms, it sounds very tight. I almost wish you did even more with the 3:20 section, and extended it, because that heroic progression with this style sounds really good. Incredibly powerful submission here, i like it a lot. It's a challenge to make metal that sounds so brutal but still remain very accessable. Nice work, guys. yes
  4. There are flashes of brilliance throughout, but overall it is feeling like it needs additional polish And balance adjustments. The instruments overall are ok, but the sequencing feels very stiff. Fishy has some good crits that will help you improve what needs to be improved while still keeping the parts of thesong that are really good intact. The OCR WIP threads are a great place to get detailed feedback and assistance, I recommend you take advantage of it to further improve this! no, please resubmit
  5. Some pretty nice synthwork here, I felt the arrangement balance was a little strange and distant at first, with super weak sounding drums. Some more powerful drums do come in, but i think that maybe with these big tonal shifts, there should be more leadup to new sounds. The organic fade and such is pretty good, but some power fills would really help. Aw the song goes on i can't help but wish that the drum were stronger, with a more pronounced kick and snare to really drive the track. It's that lack of energy that is the main sticking point for me, as i enjoyed the arrangement. Overall its close, but i'd like to hear the kick and snare beefed up. no, please resubmit
  6. This is a really nice blend of source tracks from verybdiffent games and composers working well as a unified whole. The drums seem a little single-velocity, but i am definitely feeling the energy present. Little bit of intonation issue on the lead guitar bend right before the breakdown, but it's close enough. I think there should be a little bit of additional backing part in the beginning of requiem- it feels better when the rhythm guitars come in, but its a bit empty for the first iteration. Overall, strong stuff. Nice work! yes
  7. Pretty interesting retro/scene sound to this one, its like what games would have sounded like if the composers had access to better tools, i think. The arrangement is really rally conservative, however, and for the most part is sounding verbatim. The are some drum fills and little additions, but overall, it is sounding to me much like a nice sounding upgraded cover track. That makes sense to me, since the original was so varied as well, but i'm going to need more personalization before I can sign off on this. I enjoyed the track, but it is too condervative arrangementwise. no, please resubmit
  8. Yar, that opening saw is dry, even with the touch of processing on it.. Once a soundscape fills in aroud it, it is much better, but the early bit was harsh. I would have duplicated the channel and had a touch of delay on the second channel, and used that for the intro part. Balance was overall solid and the instruments gelled. The arrangement was very classy, with some funky swagger and some excellent ideas. Transitions were great, and the track clicked overall. Very nice work, dude, this was great. yes
  9. This is a pretty subdued track, and wasn't really sure about it at first, but came around with a few extra listens. I think my issue at first was that the drums are wuiet and felt that they were lacking power because of the levels. The piano and pads combo is very nice, and the thmes are blended well together. The treatment of the sources stays in a pretty comfortable closeness to the original, but added elements and minor personalization keeps it feeling fresh. I dislike the ending though, as the "someone forgot to tell the shaker player the song was over" style of endings is a bit weak. Overall though, I am comfortable passing this track. yes
  10. Triple recommendation for the WIP forum, there are some good ideas here, but there needs to be additional production and arrangement refinement. The soundscape needs to filled out in a lot of sections, and improving thr drum sound will be pretty important. Keep at it though! no
  11. On some levels i agree with Emu, but to me, it was like 1 min of source, then 1:45 of loosely connected original material. Just when i think i hear dominant source for a few notes, it goes off to some thing else. Drums i wasnt really feeling in context, but a lot of the synths felt right to me. Production is close, but really my issue is the lack of dominant source for almost 2/3 of the track. It is A good resub candidate, but it needs way more dominant source. no, please resubmit
  12. The lead playing was a little shaky at the beginning, but once the song got going, it really came together. Production sounded good, I enjoyed the synth sound, and the rhythm playing was tight and powerful sounding. You are on the right track with the guitar sound when orchestra is involved; there needs to be room for them in the mix, and a guitar with less low mids is a good solution, I feel. Arrangement was good, with interesting parts, and the bestvparts of the original emphasized. I really liked this track. yes
  13. The balance sounded pretty good to me, though, the flute could have come up a touch. That live tambourine is awesome! Some of the rhythm playing around 1:40 could have been a bit tighter, but otherwise the performances were pretty on, and the variety of instrument timbres was very nice. I really enjoyed the arrangement here, and think you guys make a good remixing team. Very cute piano flourish at the ending as well, was a fun way to end the track. yes
  14. I can totally hear Mike Shinoda rapping over that intro, pret good. I agree with Cain that the snare could use some extra tratment, and that the arrangement didn't contain a lot of surprises, but this is a solid mix that gets the job done. The breakdown, which should have been insane seemed pretty tame. The transitions were nice, and overall I enjoyed the track. nice work, though the fadeout could have been something stronger instead. Still passable. yes
  15. I think it's pretty good, but for OCR it needs some additional spice. You chose a very good source track, and the production is solid, but it really needs to be unique. You have the chops to pull it off for sure, so let's hear it! No, please resubmit
  16. Theres a glitch in my mp3 around 1:50ish that wasn't in the wav. What can I do to help?

  18. Hello again OCR, Been a while since I submitted anything, probably because I was in "original mode", and experimenting more with new techniques and improving my skills. I decided to take a crack at another (currently) unremixed game, Hedgewars, since Flexstyle introduced me to the game a couple of months ago. It's an open-source Worms clone, but a very good one, with some nice music that doesn't quite seem to get going as much as I'd like, so I decided to flesh out the Bamboo level theme. I chose trance as a style this time because 1) I haven't got a trance remix posted yet 2) it was the obvious choice for the source, and 3) I wrote it after listening to ARMed and DANGerous! Influences are bLiNd, Jewbei, and everyone involved in the aforementioned album. The details: Remixer name: DarkSim website: http://soundcloud.com/darksim userID: http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=33879 Game arranged: Hedgewars http://www.hedgewars.org/ Name of arrangement: Hogs Of War Name of song arranged: Not sure exactly, I'm calling it "Bamboo theme" - http://tindeck.com/listen/jsjv
  19. Hello! I'd like to submit my remix of Mother 2 (Earthbound) "Otherworldly Foe Battle Theme". For quick reference, here's a link to the original of which it is based. It's entitled "Picture Postcard On A Blue Altar" and falls between the genres Psychedelic and Downtempo Electronica. Hope you guys like it! All the best, Andy

Although newcomers to OCRemix, we have been following its growth since 2004. After getting interested in the dance music scene, we discovered chill, ambient, and deep house, which we thought would make a great pairing with David Wise's DK Water Music masterpiece, a game track that had an impact on us since grade school. Sound effects were sampled from real ocean and rain recordings. We tried to keep it peacefully funky with original bass and lead lines but at the same time retain that "deep" sound with the kick and pad. No as-is presets, every sound is handcrafted with love. We really hope you enjoy our first submission.
  21. ReMixer name: Devastus Real name: Jani Syrjänen Website: http://projectdevastus.blogspot.com/ User ID: 38159 Games arranged: Sonic & Knuckles Name of arrangement: Airborne Name of invidual song arranged: Flying Battery Zone Act 1 Link to the original (Youtube) In case of an emergency, here's a MediaFire link to the remix. The original song is one of the better remembered game soundtrack songs from my childhood, and certainly one of my favourites. Even then I imagined what it would sound like in a more hard rock / metal esque setting, so as I were scouring through game osts one day and came over this one, I decided to try my hand at making one myself. The result is a lot of needless guitar wankery with a pretty balanced mix on it, plus an extra 10 second ballad for every girl to wet themselves to!
  22. Alright OCR, Submitting another house remix here. This time its Sakura’s theme from Street Fighter Alpha 2. I have never actually played the game, and only became aware of the source when Jewbei posted a very catchy WIP of it on the WIP boards. As a matter of fact, I ended up writing an arp for that remix. In the end, Jewbei decided to focus on other mixes, and I forgot about it for a little while. Then I came across Marc Star’s remix of the same source – I really enjoyed it (actually, it still finds its way onto my playlist from time to time) and decided to remix the source. Around the same time, after looking into how other artists (including zircon) use samples in their music, I thought it would be a good idea to sample Marc Star’s remix, and maybe a couple of other mixes instead of using samples from Reason’s library. This way I could pay homage to some of my favorite mixes on the site and at the same time experiment with incorporating samples from actual tracks into my remixes. Obviously, since Marc Star’s remix was the source of my inspiration, it is the remix I used the most - I sampled some guitar phrases from there and chopped them up some to fit the style. Sakura's "Shouoken" scream, while it sounds similar to the one in Marc's mix, is actually difference from the one he used. For one of the transitions I used a few seconds from Avien’s Slow Moon Groove. DA and anso’s Hyper Monkey made its way in there as well, but it is actually hard to make any of it out in the final version of the mix. Finally, I used a brief string sample from mv’s Darkest Omen. Oh, and that arp that I wrote for Jewbei’s version of the track found its way in here – a bit more housified. At the end, the mix turned out fine, but a bit too vanilla. Luckily, I knew someone who could fix that problem – Mr. Skrypnyk! He very kindly agreed to spice it up by mangling and glitching sections, adding some techy lead licks, breakbeats and voice samples. I really love what he has done with the track, especially the dubsteppy part towards the end. The way I think of it, it is Skrypnyk’s remix of my remix of Marc Star’s remix of Sakura’s theme. I hope you guys like it! Remixers: ambient, Skrypnyk Names: Alex Gventsadze, Andrew Skrypnyk Game: Street Fighter Alpha 2 Song arranged: Sakura's Theme Remix title: A$$ Woo Ping
