  1. I have pretty strong feelings that this will be AWESOME. I loved playing through dungeons with friends in DQ9, and if this is something I can do even more, then hooray!
  2. KO guys, tonight is the night! For general ease of communication, join #vgmmtg on irc.esper.net and we can get everyone up to speed. Check the first post for download and setup info for the program we use, cockatrice too.
  3. Just a reminder that TOMORROW NIGHT is the debut! Thursday the 13th, at 8pm EST. *********** We will be playing *Block* format, so do your best to make a deck using the cards from Innistrad that can crush your foes! you can choose to keep your creation secret, or collaborate with others to get something extra-strong. If you have questions about anything or need tech help, show up a little early, and people can help you get set up. Also, I'm sure a few of us will be playing beforehand, so that's a good chance to get your feet wet with the program, and work out any kinks in your deck. *********** If you need decklists, there are a few last page, and I expect this first night to be a lot of me giving tech support for people in cockatrice. For those of you who have already been rocking the program, please please please be my deputies and help keep things moving.
  4. The lead guitar is a little too dry, and I wish the drums had a little more oomph to them, but this was a pretty unique dance-rock mix that I overall enjoyed. Some of the synths seemed a touch lifeless or generic, but there were enough that the variety made up for individual sounds, and the arrangement did enough fun things to keep me guessing. The source use is a bit obscured in a lot of ways, mainly because there are so many new prominent melodic ideas added, and when the melody of the source is played, it's using a more subdued synth. Somehow the source is all there, but the treatment makes it harder for me to hear. With enough listens I found what I think is all of it, and it's over 50%. Pretty fun, cool take on the source, and while hard to place the first few listens, I got it eventually. I do think the guitar's dryness is an important issue, as doubling up some synths with some more active ones would be good. It's really really close, and might even grab a few YES's, but I think what is best for the song are some tweaks. I'd love to hear this one again soon! No, please resubmit
  5. At first this felt like a Frankenstein track to me, where there were recognizable bits of the song sewn together, but the more I listened, the more I understood the source use. I don't think the middle synth lead quite fits, but overall the guitar/piano interplay is very nice, and the soundscape feels expansive. Definitely not how i'd envision the source to be dealt with, but it's really nice. The track length is about right, and there is agood progression and flow. This one really won me over, nice work. Yes
  6. Double post, but it's pretty good info, played a few games with Donut last night, and I was reminded that I should post some good deck lists for block to use as a starting point. Note that these are not even close to tuned, and that i'm sure there are better card choices for some, but they are meant for a foundation. 7. Definitely a visionary, packed several lifetimes worth of achievements into just one. Nice Work, Steve, RIP.
  8. I played in an awesome 6 player FFA last night with some wonderful gents from the shizz. Seems like we have a really supportive group of people helping each other to learn the program, and we usually have a decent amount of people in the #vgmmtg channel at night, if any of you want to get some random games in.
  9. show uop whenever! we will have plenty of people to play against!
  10. For the foreseeable future we'll be focusing on block and standard, as well as draft. Modern/Legacy can be for those who are interested. The goal of this is to have a semi-simple (at least as simple as magic can get) playing field for people to have fun in. I'm sure plenty of people will be interested in the deep end, andthey can meet up ad play too, via the power of networking
  11. Just Innistrad; it released this weekend, so there is a pretty level playing field as far as information. "]innistrad
  12. it is possible in conjunction with ccgdecks.com, which is a draft simulating website. It actually works pretty well, and we will definitely be doing drafts once we get the organization basics down.
  13. Between OCR and the shizz, we have about 21 people interested, which is totally awesome, and a great starting point! Since the skill levels of people vary wildly, and since a lot of people are coming into this without playing for a long time, I think the best way to start would be to make a small-pool constructed format, and then gradually work backwards. Typical rules apply for constructed; a limit of 4 of any card except basic lands, and a 60 card deck, with 15 card sideboard. Block format (Currently 1 legal set, Innistrad): "]Block Standard format (Currently 5 legal sets, Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged, New phyrexia, Magic 2012, Innistrad): "]standard Eventually we'll give Modern and Legacy formats some time, but let's start with these two constructed formats for now. SETUP information: 1. You'll need to go to www.cockatrice.de and download the program (all platforms available! Yay Mac users!) and register your name. Once registered, put your name in the thread, so other users can friend you in cockatrice. 2. Once downloaded, you'll need to run the oracle program to get the cards updated, and then you can start building your deck. 3. For the time being, we'll go with the honor system for deck construction; make sure your deck is legal. If you aren't sure, ask others! 4. If you haven't used cockatrice before, you might want to get a feel for it; it's pretty simple to use, with minimal button pressing, but it's good to get an idea of how it generally works. You can play some games VS yourself with it, or meet up with another league member. 5. We will have an IRC channel set up on Esper.net called #VGMMTG. I'll be idling there for sure, and I bet a few others will eventually. *********** The first OFFICIAL night we'll try this will be Thursday the 13th, at 8pm EST. We will be playing *Block* format, so do your best to make a deck using the cards from Innistrad that can crush your foes! you can choose to keep your creation secret, or collaborate with others to get something extra-strong. If you have questions about anything or need tech help, show up a little early, and people can help you get set up. 14. So i've been throwing this idea around in my head for awhile, but what are your thoughts on creating an online league for playing magic over cockatrice (free MTG program that is pretty nice)? There are a bunch of players on theshizz and on OCR, and having a specific meetup time once every 2 weeks for tournaments, or drafts, or whatever would be kinda cool. Since cockatrice is free and has the entire card database, card availability isn't an issue, so people can play what they want, and using CCG, we could do draft or sealed. Any interest? It'd probably be a weeknight like tues or thurs every other week.
  15. Love the soundtrack from this game; I've been flirting with the idea of remixing the 4th linked track since I started remixing, but have never pulled the trigger. Maybe now is the time?
  16. the bells can get pretty piercing and seem too loud, and overall the high end seems pretty overhyped. The arrangement is cool, and the production is much improved, but those bells need to come down in volume. No, please resubmit
  17. I gotta agree that the arrangement idea is great and creative, but the execution is rigid, and the samples are pretty lifeless. The drums seem to be a little static as well, and are lacking life. I think some humanization on the sequencing and some better samples would make this awesome; I'd hit u the WIP threads for some advice and possible sample help from some others. No
  18. It sounds much improved with the bells being in tune. The production is above the bar with some some cool synths (though one is a touch shrill, but not a dealbreaker) and beats. The drums are a bit static, but there are several patterns that mix up the sections, and while some more involved drum fills would have been nice, and a little bit more expansion that pushed this closer to 3min would also have been good, i'm comfortable passing this. Yes
  19. Things are wrapping up on this, and an early 2012 release is imminent. It will most likely be right after MMX for schedule, but of course these things tend to change. some fun facts: - Most of the songs feature a guitar on them. Almost all of the guitars are acoustic. - Overall playtime is just a little under 1 hour - There are several vocal songs - over 3/4 of the album tracks have live instruments
  20. There is a pretty good variety of sounds on here, some solid guitar playing, and a vocaloid hook that works pretty well. It really gives a space-travel feel, and contains some mysterious and sinister elements as well, in the intro and throughout. The mood here is definitely cool. The rhythm guitars get a little uppity in some spots, but everything is still audible, and the transients are good. I just think some of the high end could have been EQ'ed down. The solo was good, and the flow was solid. I think a little bit could have been trimmed lengthwise, but overall this was cool. Yes
  21. I really enjoyed the first submission, and this one is even better. The whole soundscape is excellent, and it really captures the majesty of the source, and expands upon it in a huge way. If this was an official version that opened up FF15 or something, I would be incredibly hyped to play the game. I love it. Yes
