  1. Some hip-hop with a little house influence - a little Kanye-ish I think. Sample from 'Almost Lovers' by A Fine Frenzy.
  2. I'm nearing completion of an album a friend of mine and I have been working on and we're starting to think about printing options. We're thinking something along the lines of 4-panel digipaks, though Discmakers' shortest run is 300 and it's pretty expensive. The fact that 300 is probably a bigger run than we need isn't a huge deal since we live in different cities and would be taking 150 each. But neither of us really have a lot of expertise in this area, so I thought I'd ask around here for suggestions or comments or anything.
  3. oh wow way to totally dig this up from out of nowhere btw feel free to post this mix anytime guys (:
  4. haha yeah it was kind of awkward because I was recording and I couldn't stop and say something so he was just kind of hanging around...Thanks for listening!
  5. i agree the lack of techno really just drags everything down
  6. not to jerk you around or anything but I personally thought it sounded really good with the clicks
  7. yeah if anybody wants to see me straight railin on a piano here is a video I made today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKqCT8ZS9BY it was an electric keyboard so I slipped up a bit but it actually didn't come out too bad. and yes that is some random dude who walked in and started watching me play :\
  8. Now we lie on the floor While the radio war Finds its way through the air Of the dead market square
  9. I've listened to this album a bunch of times now and I just can't get into it. It's not terrible or anything, and there are a lot of promising ideas for the songs here, but the execution is lacking for the most part. 'Sexy Boy' is one of the few songs that I feel like the ideas really came through. Fuses trip hop rhythms with intricate and developed electronica very effectively. The vocals here work very well. My other "favourite" is 'Days of Summer V2'. Great energy and sound, also a great choice for the opening track. The rest of the songs were just alright to me. Not to single it out or anything, but I felt like 'Requiem for Another World' is the one track could've used a lot more work. The vocals here just don't work as well as they did in songs like 'Sexy Boy' and 'Thieves of Fate'. They're pretty jarring. The singing isn't that great either, the vocals are frequently off-key and there is a whole lot of unnecessary scooping in most of the larger interval jumps. That aside, congrats on the project everybody.
  10. That's pretty cool, I might try that sometime And thanks, Vivi, that was really helpful.
  11. Under $1000 pretty much, maybe a bit over. Both, I suppose. Midi is probably the most important if it comes down to it since I already have an acoustic kit. What is the advantage of mesh headed pads? I don't necessarily care about the realistic feel of the pads so much as their responsiveness (for example, a snare picking up ghost notes, buzz rolls, etc.).
  12. I've been thinking about getting one of these, mostly so I can make more natural sounding drum parts rather than just clicking around the piano roll in FL Studio. I don't have a lot of experience with these, they all seem pretty much the same to me. Does anybody have any recommendations or tips as far as what kinds are better than others for this sort of thing?
  13. This is a song my friends and I did back when we were like 13 and played in a band...it isn't the first song I ever wrote (though I didn't write much of this one, I was the drummer) but it's the first song we finished enough to the point of actually recording it properly. My drumming is pretty brutal, I sped up a lot towards the end... Anyway, here it is. http://alexhhhh.googlepages.com/HotButteryJesus.mp3
  14. that assumes that people enjoy only one or a few genres. also that same argument could be used for categorizing remixes by game, original composer, etc. the way I see it it's the exact opposite. categorizing remixes only makes them more accessible. the way it is right now all the remixes I have are either from games I am familiar with or remixers I know I like, not including the ones I have found by pure chance. I don't really have time to go one by one through the archive so any means of categorizing the music is helpful.
  15. This is pretty good only I wasn't really feelin the drums that come in at 0:30
  16. Are commercial album releases moved to this forum after 2-3 weeks as well? To me it seems that those sorts of announcements are less about getting feedback (i.e. a work in progress) than they are letting people know about a finished product you are hoping to sell.
  17. congrats on actually getting this done in such a short time. it sounds pretty good so far. uhh I guess not a lot of time was spent tagging these though O Come, O Come, Emanuel and Winter's Town are really great.
  18. this is awesome. almost...cinematic the way the songs fit together.
  19. yeah sounds like you're improving a lot...just gotta work on balancing the volumes, the supporting parts drown out the main schala melody.
  20. I remember listening to this in the WIP forums awhile back and really enjoying it. I randomly got the opening of the song in my head today. It's a very beautiful piece.
  21. OK so this is the most updated version. I sped it up a bit, but not too much because I felt like it made the sample sound too rushed, even when it was adjusted to the new tempo. It could just be me though since I'm so used to it being slower. I'm gonna listen to a ton of house this weekend to get a feeling of where I wanna go with this, I think it has some potential. Thanks for the feedback so far guys.
  22. I was using the technique in FL's sidechaining template which is pretty much the same thing I think. I didn't do the invert part though, I think that was the problem. How does it sound now? http://alexhhhh.googlepages.com/BeLivingdemomain.mp3
