  1. Okay, I'm back for one more comment! I've been listening to this track a bunch for the past day and there's just so much to love. I think what's really clicking with me is the Led Zeppelin off it all, especially something like The Rain Song. Forgive my lack of musical theory terms but the whole "soft-to-loud" journey this mix goes on just gives it so many layers. "Like The Rain Song" or "Stairway to Heaven" or "In the Light", this track tells a story just by changing up the volume in meaningful ways. And the use of "classical" instruments with the flute and strings, meshed with some ripping guitar work and drums that definitely get to shine throughout, it just gives this whole mix a saga-vibe that, again, I keep comparing to Zeppelin. Like, if Jimmy Page did a version of "In the Pines". It's creepy, like something out of those Norwegian-crime novels but it also rocks so hard, I ended up blaring my car speakers during those solos.

Okay, I'm done gushing. Thanks so much for this mix!

*gah, I love video game remixes so much*

  2. Resurrection!

As an update, since this post got brought back, I ran that Teen Anime Club from 2016 to 2020 before I stepped away from that job and it was a huge hit and one of the library's most consistently attended programs. Seriously, getting 4 teens to come to something at the library can be a task but getting 20+ on a regularly weekly basis was huge. And those attendees could be convinced to come to other programs! It was a win-win!

    Biggest hits during those years?

    My Hero Academia
    Dragon Ball Super
    Megalobox
    Seraph of the End

  3. With all those "(insert type) of music for studying" videos on YouTube, I was wondering what the policy of OCR is for those? In terms of, can someone make one with OCR music, give credit to OCR & the artists and it's okay? Or do they need to be set to private? Public with no monetization? Ect, ect.

  4. You created something that has been part of my life for more than 20 years and I've interacted with OCR tracks more than any other music in my life. I'm glad your moving on to do what you heart is leading you to but I'll be forever grateful that you not only started this site, but then you led it to amazing heights and standards. Thanks for making such a positive and active part of the internet and video game culture.

@duskvstweak Basically agreed on all points. I could be additionally unkind (to myself) and say that most of the site feels a bit outdated, too, but the homepage is a good place to start.

Step 1 is updating our site navigation to be responsive, which I've sat on for far too long. Hoping 2022 is the year.

I hope I didn't come off as trying to be unkind. I love the site, have for decades(!). If this site was still the 2000's orange design, I'd still use it.

  6. With the forum and the comments being less used then back in the day, I think the main page could do with a reorganization. Moving the new tracks front and center, or something like that. Considering most of the community has moved to Discord, it probably wouldn't hurt to have a link for that somewhere. And Soundcloud is great and all, but the Jet Force Gemini album came out nine months ago but it takes up a ton of real estate. I suppose it looks fine on mobile, though I'm sure it could be more streaming friendly.

Anyway, I suggest all of that without having any knowledge of future site plans, costs or the amount of time any of that would take.

  7. For me, it's Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin. That one nailed each track and my initial listen had me smiling from ear to ear. It's also the one where I realized how consistent and unified the directors and mixers were able to make a four disc album. None of the songs felt out of place and a bunch even compliment each other. I'm partial to FFVI in general, but it really was an awesome release.

For pure fun, I'm also a fan of Heroes vs. Villains, which is just a party.

  8. We moved to North Carolina basically a week before everything got shutdown, was a stressful time. We moved for my wife's new teaching job, of which she's been doing remotely. I had an interview schedule but it's been delayed indefinitely and most of the other jobs I applied for have said the same thing.

Besides looking for work, I've been recording lots of podcasts, reading lots of X-Men on Marvel Unlimited, watching lots of Criterion Channel and playing older games like Mega Man X, Sim City 2000 and XIII.
