Greatest minute and a half of guitar ever recorded?
The Legendary Zoltan replied to Leon K.'s topic in General Discussion
Damn! That was pretty nuts! -
What exactly do you mean by, ?I totally don't know what that means. As for everyone's advice about starting projects, I would just agree with all that. But just for the heck of it, why don't you start out by telling us what your idea is. And then. . . Wait. Just like The Damned said.

That's freaking classic!

Greatest minute and a half of guitar ever recorded?
The Legendary Zoltan replied to Leon K.'s topic in General Discussion
Hate be like the only one who thinks so, but that was a pretty boring song for me. Of course this would be making a genre jump from rock to metal, but I recommend the guitars solos of Soilwork, Death, and Nevermore. Creativity is more emotional than just playing a slow bluesy solo when your life is at a particularly low point. Of course all this is just a matter of opinion, but I can still say exactly what solo is my greatest one. It's the second solo in Jealousy by Death. It's played by Andy Laroque. I think he's from Sweden but I'm not really sure. It's a pretty short one, but it's so dang sweet! Harmonizing is where it's at! Check it out if you can. -
Yeah, it's hard to say whether or not you'll be able to actually participate in an actual remix if you really can't do ANYTHING. But how about those other jobs that Fishy mentioned?
-
I'm still standing by Xenogears and Tri-Ace games as the best.

Since, I'm such a n00b at production, I've decided to slow down and take it one step at a time. So this is a revised version of the drums. I haven't touched it with any effects other than velocities. Do you think this can be considered good sounding drums with these samples and if so, what EQ/compression/effects/whatever else advice would you give? http://chipp_damage.sitesled.com/Music/ValkyrieDrumSample.mp3

Just curious, but what are the other misconceptions?
-
I guess this is different from the NS Kit 7 that you can get for free from the website? I have that and it's less than 200 megs. This is a different one right? To be honest I thought my old drums samples sounded better. And I just downloaded the thing a couple days ago. However, Tensei san is using it for his Bloody Tears Metal remix and they sound really nice. Hmmmm.

Official Mastering and Production thread
The Legendary Zoltan replied to sephfire's topic in Music Composition & Production
Yo. I don't know if anyone is interested, but I was wondering if anyone could give some advice specifically about EQing/Compressing/everything elseing drums for brutal metal. I'm working on one such piece now and I, personally, think the current drum sound I've got sounds cool, but I'm thinking that all the producer heads out there would say otherwise. What advice would you give for producing drums for an extremely busy metal song? -
Tensei, I really hate to do this on your bad ass drum tutorial, but I think you got blast beats all wrong. I live in Japan and everybody calls everything something else out here, but I'm pretty sure that a blast beat is when you hit the bass drum, snare drum, and a cymbal all at the same time in rapid succession. Watch as I go into detail: In the pattern you've got: (S=snare, B=bass, C=cymbal) C---C---C---C---C---C---C---C--- --S---S---S---S---S---S---S---S- B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B- There are cymbals on the down beats and snares on the ups. If you think about it deeply, I think you'll notice that this is just like all those basic rock beats you've been talking about, except it's a lot faster and there's double bass added. An actual Blast Beat hits all three of these things at the same time: On the down AND up beats. So it should look like this. C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C- S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S- B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B- Now, I don't know if they could actually play it at the speed of this song, but that's a Blast Beat. And I'm pretty sure that if you make any variations to the rhythm of anything, it is no longer a Blast Beat. The only way to vary it is to change the cymbal you're hitting. It seems most commonly to me to be the ride cymbal, but I don't have the scientific data to back that up. And I'm sorry that I don't have an audio file to give an example. Anyway, I've done my good deed for the day. Nice Tutorial, man. I, too, am looking forward to the production values section of this tutorial cause I'm such a n00b at it. Hahaha.

Moseph and Yoozer, you guys are the greatest! I finally figured it out. It was Moseph's saying that he checks the synth property option in the insert synth box. I usually don't bother with that because, well, because I've never needed to in the past. To answer your question Yoozer, I did use Edirol Orchestra a lot in the past. But I never needed to bother with the synth property page with that one. I guess because it's not a soundfont and thus doesn't require SFZ. Well, I guess the only proper way to thank you is to dedicate the next mix (And it's an INSANE one) to you two. So that's what I'm gonna do. It will take some time though. I'm still a n00b when it comes to production values, so I gotta take some time with that. But I think I'll be able to make my drum beat sound really bad ass now. Thanks guys (or girls, if you are girls).

Nope. It's my first time. So I have no idea what I'm doing. None of the help menus in Sonar seem to mention anything about how to use a soundfont when doing it with SFZ. It's possible that I missed an important piece of in the SFZ FAQ. I don't THINK so, though. I've been using VSTs until now. And not really all that much since I usually only use Sonar to make songs for my band to play. So I don't worry about quality one bit.

I liked the "Aeries dies" page too. Hahaha.

Thanks a lot everyone. Your idea of using SFZ seems like it's gonna work. Now here's another n00b question. I think I've figured out how to load NSkit7 into and all that, and then I can load SFZ into Sonar as a DXI synth, but when I want to select a patch, there are none. Not sure why. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thank you.

So, anyway, getting back to what I was talking about. . . Barret rules! Hahaha. Allow me to throw in another two cents of mine about a game that I've recently added to my top . . . 5 or so. ALUNDRA SPOILERS ... ... ... ... After about half of Alundra, everytime I entered someone's nightmare to save them I kept getting jumpy at the possibility of that person dying. Because in that game I think over one-third of the people you meet die. As soon as I exit the dream, the only thought in my mind is, "will the next note of music I hear be that acoustic guitar of death or that groovy town theme?" That was really starting to get to me. I loved it! It had a much greater effect on me than the FF7 scenes. By the way, does anyone know if it's possible to do things differently so that one CAN save the villagers' lives?
-
I don't get it yo. I use Sonar, and the soundfont option in the tools menu is greyed out and unselectable. In the Hardware section of the audio devices section of my computer it says, "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio." I guess that's my soundcard. Can I not use soundfonts with that? If you know what I'm doing wrong please let me know. Thank you. CHIPP Damage

NO WAY! Barret is my favorite all the way. I mean, come on, he swears. And he's black. What's NOT to like?

Fishy said it for me. The plate falling on sector 7 was way more dramatic for me. I'm really interested in playing Tales of Symphonia. Similar to what I said about Star Ocean 3's ending, if Motoi handles the music, it's gonna kick our asses every time.

I know there's another FF7 thread, but this thread is about whether or not you've been moved by a game. FF7 SPOILER ... ... ... ... Like Noizrocx said, I didn't get attached to her at all. In fact the only reason I ever wanted to use her was because of her healing limit break. That was it. Can't say I felt much of anything when she died. Except that killing her made Sephiroth cooler. Hahaha. Star Ocean 3 SPOILER ... ... ... ... Star Ocean 3 really had me going during the ending though. That game was full of perfect cliches, stereo types, cheesiness all over, but when fate said, "That means I'm still alive!" and then all those memories flashed by I could feel the tears trying to creep up on me and my throat even got all swollen like when you cry, and I know exactly why. 95% of it was Motoi Sakuraba's sickly sweet music. That dude always does it to me.
