  1. Good luck, guys. Never been a fan of the Lufia series but that doesn't mean I don't want music remixes. And Gario, if you're seeing this, check your PM. Sorry for the late reply.
  2. Excellent stuff. Love your flute and guitar playing, especially the latter. The reverb you put on the guitars sounds so awesome. Like the tropical vibe of the remix, which obviously fits Koopa Beach like a glove. The Powerful Mario/Starman theme is integrated really well, too.
  3. Love it. Excellent stuff as usual. Very Daft Punk-esque indeed. I've secretly always wanted a remixer to tackle any game music track and go all Daft Punk on it, so congrats on being the first to do so. Tornado Man is an unusual pick for this experiment, but you managed to make it work overall. I recognize parts of the beginning of the original track here, but I'm not familiar with Cold Man's track at all. Either way, not questioning the usage of the source since you've broken it down in the decisions thread, but I personally would've love more Tornado Man since it's such a cool and catchy track. Next time, bring Jillian in to do some back-up vocoded vocals or something. That would kick ass! (Pssst, Jill...encourage him to sing more no matter what. His voice can't be that bad)
  4. Freakin' LOVE Tri-Ace. They've only gotten better with each game. Sadly though, for some reason I haven't been seeing their games to completion. Last one I finished and started a 2nd playthrough of is Radiata Stories, another forgotten gem. I've reached the final disc of Star Ocean: The Last Hope for the Xbox 360 and grown tired of the grinding and cringe-worthy voice acting. Enjoyed it while it lasted though. As for Eternal Sonata, thought it was good too but I only played 5 hours of it. Resonance is one game I really want to play. It's still wrapped and hiding under my desk. I'm really addicted to its soundtrack though. Once again, Motoi Sakuraba surprises me by going industrial with this one.
  5. LOVE this! After my first listen of the album, this track just stood out to me the most. No offense to the other strong offerings that may need more than a listen to sink in, but man this take on Tal Tal Heights is my favorite of the bunch thus far. Zircon's remix years back really raised the bar on this one, but you've done a great job in bringing it. Chill, moody, catchy, sweet samples. Keep up the good work!
  6. Hmmm...underwhelming. Stickerbrush Symphony is arguably the pinnacle of DKC music, so a remix of that track demands it to be just as emotional as the original. This mix may have successfully transferred the genre to DnB, but unfortunately it lacks the same emotion invoked by the original. Much as I hate sounding like an asshole judge from your favorite music/talent TV series, I just can't help but say that I can't feel anything from this mix. Sounds kind of bland and repetitive to me. If it were a remix of another less impressive track from the DKC games, perhaps I would've liked it. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of DnB music. Don't know. But I have to be honest here. The counterpart from OCR's album is much, much, much better. I know I'm comparing apples and oranges here, but I felt a lot of passion and emotion from Mr. Morse's interpretation. It felt like it belongs in the game. This track...not so much.
  7. http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3182527 Straight out of the oven. Read through it and enjoyed it. I see that a lot of the OCR artists contributed opinions to the article as well. Good stuff, people. There's just one blooper in page 4 that should be corrected: "Jillian Aversa, along with her brother Andrew Aversa and her spouse, have made their friends and family aware of the fact that musically-inclined individuals find a great deal of worth in game music." Andy and Jillian are actually married not brothers.
  8. Remember this way back from the WIP forums as well. It attracted me then and it still attracts me now. Very, very weird tune though. Never expected a MM2 Wily mix to sound this different. The beat is some sort of trip-hop/trance/downbeat mishmash...can't exactly pinpoint a genre for it. Surprisingly, it somehow meshes with the vocals rather well. ...which brings me to the main attraction. Vocals aren't bad despite the nitpicks and imperfections. Autotune adds more weirdness to the overall vibe. I am impressed with two factors though. First of all, the freestyle, storytelling lyrics are spread over the song very well. For lyrics that don't rhyme much and don't follow a specific length for each verse, it still managed to complement the beat rather well. Melodies and harmonies never overstay their welcome. Secondly, good job in performing the chorus differently in each take. Don't see that much in OCR vocal songs. I have a feeling that this will be one of OCR's most polarizing remixes...really reminds me of Max Payne's "Tragedy of a Bullet" from years back.
  9. Don't know why I haven't posted a comment before. Been listening to this ever since the project was released awhile back, and I guess it's official; this is my favorite track in the pack according to my iTunes count. So much so that I'm anxious to listen to the source material it's been compared to. Yeah, I'm a loser who hasn't grown up with Pink Floyd's music. Truly excellent work, Fishy. Love how all the sounds and instruments flow with each other. No instrument, including the electric guitar, overpowers the other. I can really feel the emotion off the guitar work in particular. Been a fan of your playing since your FF7 work. Make more. Looking forward to your next mix.
  10. Good stuff. Didn't know that you were the composer for Super Meat Boy, Danny. On a related note, I just discovered that you also composed for the iPhone game CANNABALT. Recently played this on my friend's phone...and man, that lone track is simply remarkable. Yeah, the game is simple and addictive, but it's that music and art-style that keep me coming back for more. Great stuff.
  11. Good stuff. Very Bollywood-like indeed. Not really my cup of tea to be honest, but I applaud virt's versatility here. Is there a genre he can't take on? On a related note, I LOVE "Through the Trees" in Shantae RR's OST. Very DKC-like in terms of mellowness. A remix of that would be awesome. I'm going to download this game soon since I missed out on the original.
  12. ABOUT FREAKIN' TIME. This should've been in OCR long ago. Glad zyko got around to do so as I too have been wanting this gem to have more exposure. Been a fan since its DoD release, and I also think it's one of zyko's best offerings. Didn't know it was so personal to him...but I guess that's what made this track to be that damn good. Dragon Roost is one of the best tracks in TWW, and zyko's take does it a lot of justice. Great vocals, perhaps in my top 10 favorites when it comes to OCR vocal tracks. The lyrics really fit in without being too Zelda-centric. Has a lot of parallelisms with Tenacious D's "Wonder Boy"...but a lot more serious of course. I especially like the performance of the chorus. Excellent guitar playing. Very nice and moody atmosphere particularly in the beginning with the beach soundscape and faint flute (of a Zelda classic tune)...and towards the end as well with that flute once again. One nitpick is the breakdown mid-track sounds out of place at first despite the cool guitar playing. That doesn't take the greatness this track offers though. Keep it up, man!
  13. One of my favorite Uematsu tracks. Always sends a chill down my spine. Not seeing any remixes of this bad boy. Of course, I prefer an orchestrated one just for the sake of recapturing that chilling mood...unless it can be replicated through other genres. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNKumgJ_UPY&p=3DA4A26B9BEDAEE2&index=20
  14. This is the first time I've ever heard a fan love V more than any other game in the series. Wow. How ironic that I just (sort of) berated the game because it's not as popular as the other installments. Wonder if there are more people like you in the world? You don't happen to be from Japan, eh? 'cause if you are, I can understand your love for V since you've most definitely played the original version. I haven't played V, but my discussions with other people in the internet lessen my interest of actually trying it out someday.
  15. http://www.projectcoe.com/blog/2010/09/10/want-final-fantasy-v-remixed-ocr-has-us-covered-ffv-thoughtsrant/ Well...I did my job in shamelessly plugging myself and spreading the news of this albums' release. Beware of long post filled with analysis, rants, and preliminary impressions of Sixto's track! Good job, everyone. Keep 'em coming.
  16. Browsed the first page of these boards and the announcements section. Don't see anything so I've decided to post up this exciting bit of news by Gamespot. Hopefully we see some of our cool community members (aka pixietricks) upload videos of the panel. Anyway, here's the link by Gamespot: http://pax.gamespot.com/story/6275245/sound-byte-chiptune-music-and-overclocked-remix/?tag=picks%3Btitle%3B6 The Final Fantasy V album is coming out in a week! A surprise to me. I've been so out of it in OCR's boards these days so excuse my noobiness. Additionally, there's plans of a site overhaul by "Lloyd" as Gamespot calls the renowned founder. Maybe I'll start calling DJP Lloyd from now on as well. Good stuff, people. Hope you had fun and keep the good times rolling.
  17. *Tear* Simply beautiful. Last time I was moved by a Star Ocean track was with Dale North's epic rendition of the same tune. The original track is one of my favorites, and an acoustic style really compliments it well. Great job, Hot Pocket. More Sakuraba love is always good. You should really take on Fallen Leaves from SO3 next. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk8dH6AJa9U
  18. One crazy remix indeed. Good stuff as usual. Some of the synths and the overall style resemble Yoko Shimomura...I won't be surprised to hear something like this in a Mario RPG game composed by her.
  19. Hilarious! Love it. Someone needs to make a damn video clip about this. I can imagine Link and company dancing to the beat.
  20. I'm skeptical on this one. I own all the WarioWare games except for the DSiWare download. Been a huge fan of the series since its first GBA installment. The problem is that I'm not much of an artist so I won't have the incentive to create games...and I hear that the focus is all on that with not a lot of replay value in terms of packed-in microgames. Playing other user-created ones, on the other hand, sounds very interesting. Does it have to be through the WiiWare download or can I play your games right off the DS version?
  21. *Tear* Beautiful, simply beautiful. As a huge Zelda fan, this is one of the few remixes which makes my heart throttle with excitement and give me goosebumps as I listen to it. One of my favorite recent remixes and perhaps in my top 10 favorite Zelda remixes of all time, next to remixes such as CHM's 15-minute epic cover of ALttP's soundtrack, "Unsealed". The original track is really epic yet sadly unappreciated in terms of getting remixed. Been a fan of this piece since the DoD entry, and it makes me happy to see that OCR accepted it despite being somewhat conservative. The acoustic guitars sound amazing, and your playing is incredible. I'm such a sucker for this type of music, but it really does sound great. Love the improvisation towards the end...really fits the original track nicely. Keep it up with the acoustic tracks, man. You really should make more of these.
  22. LOVE this...it's been on my playlist since the DoD entry. I had a hard time figuring out the remixer since DoD starts out as anonymous entrants, but had LuIzA in the back of my head for this one. As soon as the results were announced, level 99's participation caught me with surprise...and collabing with LuIzA no less? OMG. The source choice came out of left field since SFA's soundtrack is so unappreciated...I admit that I really didn't give the game or its music a fair chance. After listening to this, however, it makes me want to give the game a go. Everything about this remix is made of win! I love how both remixers feed off each other during this song. That solo mid-track is especially face-melting. Hope you guys collab again! And LuIzA, submit Bunker Half-Pipe!
  23. This is such a magical remix. Ever since I heard the DoD version...it just clicked with me. I just don't see what's all the hub-bub is about with nitpicking on the "out of tune" guitar, it's not like it's the center of the song. The ethnic atmosphere that this mix provides is just so calming, even the intentionally "untuned" guitars fit so well with the emotion conveyed. I especially love the flutes and subtle vocal chants. The arrangement and instrumentation are executed so well. I'm glad zyko didn't change a damn thing about this piece and stood his ground. Can't imagine listening to it any other way. One of your best works, man. Now submit "Rime of a Wandering Seafarer" already!!
  24. I'm going to play the devil's advocate with this mix...it's executed and written well, no doubts about that. But something about it rubs me the wrong way. It's a good example of a remix having an identity crisis. I don't think both styles blend well together in this mix in particular. Sounds very crowded overall. Lots of sounds all over the place which makes it hard to appreciate the interpretation and work on each style individually. It would've worked a lot better if the remix was consistent with one style...and I prefer the orchestral in this situation since the intro and ending sound really epic. I enjoyed DJP's other track in the project a lot more and I think it's one of his best works overall. The original is one of my favorites in DKC2 and DJP does a great job in making it funkier. But I'll write up my full thoughts once that track is posted.
