So close to Blizzard...I can taste the ice storm!

So I finally took my PS3 out for a run...what was meant to be only a 1 hour play quickly turned into 2, as I was playing a lot of Virtua Fighter 5. I haven't been this sucked into a fighter for a while, so kudos to Sega for maintaining a fine line of fighters. Unfortunately, as I turned off the PS3, I noticed it emits heat like a motherfucker - putting other consoles to the right of it is a pretty bad idea, as that's where it emits its heat. Also, while my TV is shit, I'm pretty certain that the PS3 has poor support for older TVs - I'm hearing weird sounds when I do things like turn off the PS3 via the controller, and the picture quality isn't sharp. The refreshing of the image looks really bad...I'm hoping this is fixed with a firmware update, but somehow, I don't think Sony really dealt with it.

So, I got my brand new PS3 in the mail today...along with Diablo 2, which has prevented me from playing the PS3 so far. I'll give my first impressions soon enough... Although, it's pretty shiny and heavy. This thing is at least 2x the volume of the Wii and side by side, the Wii looks sort of puny compared to it.

A lot of those complaints seem like nitpicks in the wrong direction - a lot of them are basically non-issues, and the game had other more serious problems that plagued it than that.

I guess I'm the opposite - I'm sick of RPGs where the difficulty factor is based on how much time is spent leveling up. It is an artificial and non-skill based way of prolonging an RPG, making it only dependent on how much time you devote to leveling up. Combined with what gets to be repetitive battles, and you got yourself the equivalent to an MMORPG - this is the reason why I got sick of MMORPGs.

Well, technically it's not a clearance - I haven't heard of any cases where someone got denied, but also even if you get screwed, just return them and rebuy them on the spot. Either way, it's a 0 risk situation.

Actually, he bought a lot of them as fodder for his trade list on CAG - I'm sure he'll be selling some of them too, but he put up a lot of the good stuff on the tradelist.

Told ya all you should've went the day before to clear house and bring the stuff back today to price adjust - someone on CAG got refunded ~$1300 for his purchases after the price adjustments.

I tend to buy largely from online stores - they're just as good as B&M, and you avoid sales tax a lot of times. Amazon is probably my favorite site for anything video game related, although I scour for cheap stuff on cheapassgamer.com . One site for preordering video games I've found great though is www.liongames.com - they're not known well as a startup company, but you pay via Paypal so your credit card # is protected, and the guy who runs it seems like he's a pretty good guy. Edit: There's CD Universe ( www.cduniverse.com ) - Amazon is the best source for music CDs hands down though.

Oh shit I forgot about those $5 off coupons! You can find photocopies of the coupons, which supposedly do work and are scannable, on CAG.

So I'm hearing lots of stories that people brought in lists as soon as the stores opened and bought everything out...no chance for me to score anything so I'll just avoid Best Buy for today.

Pssh you can up the cheap factor with Gem Box with Economizers - I would collect 4+ Economizers all the time, so my spells only cost 1 MP. In addition, Offering + Genji Glove was cheap as fuck.

Difficult turn-based RPGs with a level up system is the worst idea ever (see 7th Saga, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue). I liked the difficulty change on FF5 Advance, but I don't know enough about this one so far - I didn't play much yet. It doesn't seem as bad as people were bitching about yet though. Edit: lol, FF6 wasn't even hard originally - I never died to one of the later bosses or had remote trouble except Kefka, only because I was curious about his final form doing anything, and then after waiting awhile he started casting rapidfire Ultimas.
