  1. To be honest, the production and effects sound really nice here, but the sounds you're working with are just too vanilla, even with the cool reverse-synth treatments you've got going on I don't think this'd pass OCR for that reason alone. You've done a great job touching you an old WIP and it's clear you've improved your sound design a LOT since this was made, but unless you switch up the sound palette almost entirely I don't think this would really get by. But yeah, as far as getting a clean EQ and great production, then bravo You did great there, this is sounding much improved from your past work man, so you should be proud of that!
  2. Huge improvement here from what I remember hearing, though I still don't think it's quite ready to go back. The piano you've got in here is REALLY dry and blocky on the sequencing, and the sample itself is really detracting from the overall quality of the piece. The same thing can be said for the electronic kit at the end of the song, it just isn't jiving with me. As for the arrangement overall, it feels like it's a little bit too short and has too many drastic changes in style, and therefore never really concludes or properly expands on any of the ideas that are presented. Part of this is the transition, which still doesn't feel like it's quite there yet... it's close, but I think the blocky sequencing/performance on the piano needs to be cleaned up a little bit. I'm also really disappointed that the really amazing guitar that's going on in the intro never makes a return, I felt like that was by far the strongest aspect of the track. If you need a hand with the piano sample itself, just say the word. I can't work any sequencing miracles but if you get to the point where you're happy with that, I can certainly render parts for you. I do like a lot of the ideas you've presented here but the arrangement needs to be a bit more cohesive and flowing to take full advantage of those shifts in style. I'd also recommend revisiting some of the classical guitar ideas you introduced early on later in the song. Great work though, this is an improvement but there's still a lot of work that can be done.
  3. I've listened to your remix and can't possibly put it better than Avaris did. He's got some great feedback, I'd try and incorporate as much of that as you can and really experiment with creating a more dynamic arrangement with more peaks and valleys, and see what you can come up with You've got some cool melodies and ideas going on here, and a great adaptation of the source, but it needs something a little bit more to pass as a remix. Shoot me a message when you get around to updating this, I actually really like the vibe of your arrangement and your solos sound really nice, let's see how far you can take this one
  4. Finally able to get around to mod reviews now that I've got headphones, but... your link is broken! What's up?
  5. Yeah, I second the notion that the piano needs to be a little bit less forward/bright in the mix. Throw some verb on that bitch! Past that, this is really really good. I feel like you could do a little bit more with your drum fills/transitions to better match the level of energy of the rest of the track. For example, your snare is super-muffled which works sometimes, but for the more dramatic parts it just comes off as weak. I'm really digging the vibe, this is one of your most epic, glorious arrangements to date, it did start to drag just a little bit toward the end when the overall song didn't increase in energy. As-is, this would probably still be a pass, but it could definitely stand to have a little bit more dynamics as far as the energy level goes. Make what you will of that, I still really enjoyed this! The Gerudo Valley sections particularly sounded great
  6. He's had this concept in the works long before the final deadline. However, given that he's already done 4 songs for the project, I figured it would be fair to let him have a bit of extra time to finish up the other two that he'd already gotten a solid start on.
  7. Just wanna remind everyone that this project hasn't gone stale yet We have nothing for you guys right now but that video preview is still going to happen... I swear. Feel free to lob all complaints at me in the meantime. And welcome Fishy, who's helping finish off Theophany's ending track. I think. That track's gonna be boss, foreal. I also got a 30 second Wip for Enchanted version 5, that's pretty cool So... I hope we haven't lost all you guys. We're still here, just waiting for the OCR queue to sort itself out and these last few tracks to reach fruition. Any questions we can answer for you guys in the meantime?
  8. Please do stuff like this more often There's not nearly enough classy futuristic-sounding jazz on the site, or in the world in general. This song really helps fill a void in my musical world!
  9. Happy birthday to one of the most helpful dudes on the site :-D I hope the good karma comes back to you in spades man!

  10. Because of some forums glitch I literally cannot change my avatar. If anyone wants to help me out with that (like Darkesword, if you can change my avatar directly from the admin CP or something) then I can be cool, but otherwise y'all just gotta deal. Sorry team
  11. Right on, thanks Rexy
  12. Wow, #00FFCC is actually a real color. Cool
  13. If my sig isn't exactly #00FFCC then I will raise all manner of holy hell upon you, Rexy, and this entire competition too. Just you wait.
  14. Hey, avatar buddy! My account is glitched up somehow so apparently I'm stuck picking Tetris Attack avatars for the rest of my OCR life :-P I've never even played the damn game!

  15. Oh god now I need to learn how to Mega Man. What have I done?
  16. Howdy, teammate! I don't know how we've never talked before, but any friend of Drew/Ben is a friend of mine :-) Hit me up sometime bro!

  17. Well, I'll say that I do like how this one changes up the groove frequently and doesn't get too repetitive. The arrangement here is solid and well-adapted. The breakdown sections are really cool and offer a nice counterpoint. However, I don't feel like this really has enough nuance or detail to really hold up to muster as a dubstep track. Perhaps this is just a matter of this track being produced back when dubstep was still a budding genre, but the drums and bass are very generic-sounding and don't really pack much of a punch. You definitely need to do some searching for better-quality drum samples with a bit more grit to 'em to set them apart from every other electronica track out there. My suggestion, if you're planning on making more remixes/songs in this genre, is to come up with ways to use automation on your bass than simply modulating the LFO. Dubstep as a genre has gotten to the point where simply wobbling the bassline is a dime-a-dozen trick. Think outside the box a bit more with how you mangle and twist your sounds to sync up with the rest of the song. I know I'm being harsh here but I see a lot of potential in the arrangement and the way the artist adapted the source, and I'd like to see more artists who are attempting the genre push it to the next level with their sounds and modulation, instead of relying on crutches that have become played out and predictable by this point in time.
  18. Alright, screw it all. I'm joining up with Ben Briggs and Ectogemia. Here's my choices (sorry, I don't know many of these themes so I'm going with the more popular ones, haha) 1. Bubble Man 2. Elec Man 3. Flash Man 4. Galaxy Man 5. Snake Man
  19. Holy crap this competition is now officially awesome.
  20. Necrobump to post yet another rap song that samples Chrono Trigger that I found tonight, I don't think it's been posted yet: Should be pretty obvious, but here's the source anyway: I wonder if it's the same producer.
  21. I might be interested in mixing something too once you update your damn tracklist
  22. One of my favorite tracks off the entire Lucid Dreaming album, what a fantastic take on the source that I may try to remix someday down the road. This is really a beautiful, sentimental mix that I can't get enough of, it definitely showcases OA's fantastic versatility when it comes to tackling different genres without missing a beat. Stellar job dude (and dudette! )
  23. Only one post after this whole month? :\ This is a much more traditional trance track but I really do like the little elements that help make this unique. That synth flute lead has a very retro sound to it but it's well-utilized melodically. It's definitely a standout element in this track and probably the main reason I come back to it every so often. Pretty cool
  24. Lol, I think I might give DJP a coronary if I try to aim for a Christmas release, considering how Wild Arms is slated for release 4 days earlier Trying to prepare two of the largest projects OCR has ever released within 5 days of each other would be a whole new kind of insane. That said, I think we'll be dropping a special present on Christmas though, so you'll have one thing that you can open up early if you'd like
