  1. I just want to start off to say metal is definitely not my favorite genre. That said, though, I can really appreciate the excellent production and playing chops it takes to pull off something like this. Good variation in the different parts, interplay between rhythm and lead guitars, and drum programming. Laughing interlude was amusing as well. Overall great work, even if it's a genre that doesn't necessarily pull me in personally.
  2. Starts off pretty loud and stays that way, which makes it fatiguing on the ears after a while. I would've liked to see some more interesting synths & less repetition. It may have been solid for the time it was made, but hasn't really aged well. Clearly Beatdrop has improved a lot since this one.
  3. Ahh, nice chilled EP to start off. This is an interesting mix of some laid-back jazz and basic synths. Nothing really stands out as spectacular, but it works effectively as a relaxing backing track. Some of the instruments were stronger than others - I particularly didn't care for the violin lead. It came off as thin and a bit fakey, but all in all not a huge deal. I think thing song especially benefits from a very strong source, so it's hard to go wrong in that regard.
  4. Not at all the way I'd expect this source to be remixed. Production is very clean throughout (pretty typical DJP). Some of the instrument choices are a little quirky (also typical DJP , but on the whole, catchy stuff. Really liking the soprano sax that enters in around the minute mark. Very pretty sound and, assuming it's sequenced, it's very capably done. One part I didn't like was how all of the energy was lost with the breakdowns - I think the song in general could've been more effective if he breakdowns were handled with either more energy or building expectations. Anyway, really like the ghostbusters 80's synth feel at 2:32 - some of the elements here really could pass for an 80's track, especially if the synths were more pronounced and embellished IMO. I'm not always a fan of DJP's stuff, but this is catchy and a keeper.
  5. Catchy groove to start out here. Production feels a bit muffled prior to the guitars at :53, but nothing too bad. Things fill out nicely with the strings at 1:08. I would've liked to hear some more energy still, especially in the drums here. I'm liking the trade-off of synths and guitars here; synths being used for accents and filling out sections and occasionally taking the lead. Things still somehow feel a bit empty when it kicks back in towards the end, and the strings don't come off realistic by any means, but it's still an enjoyable listen.
  6. Pretty standard-sounding early ocr trance. Can't really say I'm a fan of the beat here: elements like the cymbal and especially the clap are very dry. Lots of original material here as well, with the only link to the original I'm hearing being the occasional arpeggio from the original. Sorry, just not much more to say here :/. Could've been quite a bit shorter than 5:42 without losing any of the ideas.
  7. Sounding fantastic - but hey you're in the industry, so you know what you're doing . Listening, I can't quite put my finger on it, but it feels like some low/low-mid range freqs are rolled off on a lot of instruments. Is this intentional to make room for some of the percs and low strings/brass? Just personally curious.
  8. Lots and lots of work. And yes, I did almost kill Jay after all those tempo changes . FL Studio + wavs + 27ish tempo changes = nightmare.
  9. Eh, not at this point. I'm actually really trying to clear my plate a bit right now from everything that's unfinished :/. I'll let you know, though.
  10. Super rigid drums to start things off. Guitars sounds like they're played capably, if not pretty straightforward. Production-wise, this sounds pretty typical of the remixing era it came out of - most (including this one) just don't stand up well to anything from the recent past. Unfortunately, the arrangement doesn't help things much - basically a straight up cover here. Sorry, good for 2001, but doesn't stand the test of time.
  11. Kit writing is pretty hot here, might be slightly loud, but no big deal. Loving your combination of orch/synths/beats (sounds familiar . Orch feels a step down in quality compared to some of the other samples, and also pushed back quite a bit further with longer verb. I would've liked to hear more presence on the orchestra personally, but I think it's still effective use of what probably aren't the greatest samples. Nice leads here here; nice breakdown with the beats and bass around 1:30. Feels pretty short at 2:42, but not incomplete. Nonetheless, I'd still liked to have heard more .
  12. High Tension should be wrapped up (finally) in the next few days. Just putting some finishing touches.
  13. Thanks for the plug, Luke. There are some tracks from the ff4 project that you may like: Fighting for Tomorrow (Fabul) Genesis of Destruction (Final Battle) Or the alternate version of Genesis I did: Phantom of the Zeromus Also, a few ocr tracks that come to mind: Black Wing Metamorphosis Monstrous Turtles Fortress of the Knight Nuclear Flash Seized With Fury Hell March to the Apocalypse The Twelfth Commandment There IS a tagging system - it's attached to the review thread for each song (though they haven't tagged them all yet). The best way I know to search using tags is to use the forum search function, selected the Reviews forum under criteria, then enter in your keywords (example: rock orchestra)
  14. Thanks, glad you liked it . Dreamscape is one of my older songs (and it shows, I think), so I'm glad to hear it's still enjoyable.
  15. Whoops, working link now: http://cid-dda80e3cb135e034.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/GI%20Joe/GI%20Joe%20-%20Boss%5E_19.mp3
  16. New version, huge download link: Added new source towards the end - Final Stage.
  17. I remember hearing the first version EB posted on the forums and being totally floored. You could already tell it was going to be a standout track. Great emotive instrumentation, excellent usage of ethnic voices, & overall good progression between parts to keep the listener in it. (I immediately pick up on the CT reference thrown in there . The change-up at 2:14 was especially effective given it's unexpected, but is a great contrast to the previous sections. Overall a track I'm still looping on my mp3 player and a great way to lead out the Gears disc.
  18. Awesome, nice vid. Thanks for sharing. I'm a huge Hybrid fan myself (though I actually only have Wide Angle). I also have the Master Class disk lying around somewhere - probably should pull it back out sometime.
  19. Well this one came up on the mp3 player today at work, so review time. Overall, this (like many other older mixes) has very basic synth textures and a very straight-forward arrangement. The brightest spot here is the drum work, which is notably better than everything else. I can hear that he was going for a kind've ambient mysterious feel, but with the dry, simple synths, it just doesn't quite click.
  20. I usually see it at Barnes & Noble's or Borders. Better call ahead and find out, though, cause availability seems to be hit and miss.
  21. Sorry just realized I never responded to this. thanks for the compliments . Yes, that's live guitar - I'm teaching myself currently so don't expect any awesome solos
  22. Way too long since I updated this. Some more material now: EDIT removed, see first post. I know what I want to do with the next sections, just ran out of time tonight. Should be able to knock it out in the next one or two sittings.
  23. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it. Is anyone planning to save a chat log that they can share afterwards?
  24. It BETTER not take that long to come out. That would mean my mix would be sitting on "to be posted" for nearly 4 years. Seriously though, since progress is actually being made on the last tracks, I doubt it'll be beyond 2010. Just depends how things pan out with projects set to release ahead of it.
  25. Man, I don't remember being on this many tracks on the project. I guess it's been a while...
