  1. Thanks so much for the positive feedback guys, I really appreciate it. To clarify a bit, this song was completed quite a while ago (submitted Dec '07) when I used a setup with only free samples. Since then I have purchased some premium libraries. I was honestly a bit nervous about keeping this song on the album in its current form since it is almost two years old and I feel like I've progressed quite a bit since then. So I'm glad you guys are enjoying it, despite its age. Hah, well, if you're an FL user, you can grab the soundfonts and project I used as a template for creating this song and several others. Get it in this thread.
  2. Hey man, sorry for the delayed response. I'll see what I can do. Things are super super busy right now: just started a new job this week and have a 12 day old at home. When bLiNd convinced me to grab a track, I did it with the disclaimer that it could be some time before I'm able to work on it at all.
  3. Hah, I might be able to get on some games, assuming you can use existing copies of the game on steam. I used to play Jedi Outcast way too much.
  4. It really depends on your sound card and drivers. Apparently, a few years ago the RIAA got some soundcard manufacturers to eliminate the Stereo Mix (internal recording) option from their drivers. I'm not sure what the current situation is, but I'm able to do it from my current SB Audigy 2. Depending on what you've got, you may be able to google on it to find a set of drivers that allows Stereo Mix recording.
  5. Hey guys, didn't know if I wanted to clog up community since this is a pretty narrow topic. I've found that I'm much more interested in older games focused on story & gameplay, rather than newer, flasier games today. So I'm trying to make some decisions on some single player games to purchase. Was hoping for some recommendations on some not-so-expensive games (another reason I haven't been looking at newer). Recently, I went to Target and saw both X3(The Threat, I think), and Galactic Civilizations II for $10 each. Now, I'm a big fan of the old Master of Orion games, so 4x gameplay is right up my alley. But in general, I'm looking for something with good story and fun gameplay - without a massive learning curve. I haven't played anything in either of these series, so if anyone has, I'd love some pros/cons or any insight on what to get. Also, if there are any other games in the space-ish FPS/strategy that anyone can give opinions on, that'd be great. I already have Freelancer (though I lost the stupid thing), Freespace 1 & 2, the old XWing games up to Alliance, Master of Orion I - III (don't get 3 btw), Wing Commander I & II, & Star Control II. tl;dr version: Galatic Civ II, X3, or a different space game?
  6. Very cool man. Game is basic, but fun - cool visuals. Music, though, is top notch. Great job there. I think the furthest I've gotten is 3880.
  7. Question 4: SOMEONE is wearing their headphones backwards. Can you see who?
  8. Happy birthday, Cap'n! Big 3-0 milestone too!
  9. I agree with proph that the Image Line forums would be better for this question. Personally, the only time I've had this happen was when I accidentally had MIDI outputs on (under Options > MIDI settings) before turning on ASIO. It then would hit 99% CPU and never drop from there until I turned off all the MIDI output ports.
  10. Ok, I broke down an installed the game. Haven't played yet, but I used to play DotA years ago. Maybe I'll catch you guys on sometime. I'm not sure what carry is referring to, but yeah, it's really important to be on the front lines with the creeps to gain xp. That's why you gotta be careful how to commit yourself so you don't have to retreat from taking too much damage. Another strategy is called creep denial, where you kill your own creep unit to prevent the opposing team's hero from receiving xp from it dying. You can also do this on your team's towers if they're low enough on health. You actually get a bonus IIRC (I watched my brother play a couple hon games a few weeks ago when I was in town there, just haven't played myself). EDIT: just read back a bit and saw Tensei's post on creep denying. You can ignore me now EDIT2: Sounds like carry just refers to heroes that start week, but use the strategy of depending on accumulated items to eventually gain strength and effectiveness late game. Until that point, their team "carries" them because they're not pulling their weight.
  11. I'll start off by saying you've got some cool ideas and good general feeling here. I think there is some room for improvement, though. In several parts the soundfield gets very cluttered. One example is :55, another is 1:52. I think one of the culprits is the organ, but I don't think it's the only one. Try to spread things out more in the soundfield and eq out some unneeded frequencies. I'm not familiar with the source, so I can't judge from that perspective how it's handled. I really do have to echo cth that some beats would fit rather nicely with what you've got. Maybe even a bass synth or something to round out the bottom. Hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of splicing out a section and layering a beat and bass on top: http://nutritious4.googlepages.com/CrooksCastleHelp1.mp3 Not saying you have to do this, obviously, but it's what I'm hearing.
  12. This is an orchestrated version of Anxious Heart that's waiting to be posted. It's been in line for quite a while, so I'd imagine it won't be too much longer until it hits the front page.
  13. Do you have the soundfont player plugin? If you do, and are still having probleems, try saving the project again and emailing it to me: nutritiousmultimedia (at) gmail [dot] com
  14. Yeah, last night was the first time I've been able to participate in OHC. It was a blast, highly recommended.
  15. If you have any music programs open (utilizing the sound card) or have MIDI playback enabled in your DAW, ASIO won't work. This is because ASIO is designed to bypass all windows mixing to reduce latency as much as possible. Make sure you don't have anything open that's producing sound and that you don't have midi output enabled.
  16. Is this the official OA fanclub?

  17. You know, this is actually quite good. Most of the sounds are good quality and production is very good. I was worried it would be too conservative, but you started changing things up more as it went along - so no worries there. That said, the drum beat is good (I like the filtered fills you used), but I'd like to see some more variation. It stays on autopilot for quite a long time throughout. I heard a couple times it was filtered, but it's still the same beat playing throughout. If it's a loop, slice it up and change up the rhythms, get a nice groove going. At the 2:09, it starts to feel like just a rehash of :52. Not a significant enough contrast between the two to keep it interesting IMO. It IS a really nice section though, I like the lead and the pads behind are very nice. Not necessary, but I'd like to hear a bit more presence on the bass; maybe some more high end or something. It's filling out the bottom, but the bass moves a lot in the original and plays a significant role. Maybe consider changing it up to a more interesting patch and letting it stand out a bit more. Vary up the writing too if you're going to do that. Uh oh, repeat territory again. At the moment, you don't have enough material/ideas for 4:20 worth of song. Either need to make some cuts of the note-for-note repeated sections, or make some significant changes to keep things fresh. It sounds like a large portion of the second half is verbatim repeats. Overall, great sound and feel here, but it still needs further development in the arrangement department.
  18. Ok a little bitmore progress on this. Still needs quite a bit more work:
  19. Sure thing man, I'll help you get it going

  20. Hey, thanks! I'm really glad you took the time to check out the bonus tracks. I was worried the "No/Get back" part would come off too cheesy, but I guess it worked after all . Well, I didn't come up with that until a long time after Genesis was done, unfortunately. The screaming in your version does work with the context, though. Thanks for the compliments . Very interesting idea combining both vocal parts - that had never crossed my mind. Really, the idea for this track came after Genesis was completed as I wanted to have a more classical/opera version of the track. Just about all the orchestra was already written for the Genesis version, so it just came down to tweaking it and adding my own vocals for zero. I'm glad you liked parts of both versions.
  21. You can probably mark Haunted House as complete. Snow Mountain as well, no?
