Is there a way to make it so that reserved slots don't take up normal slots? It is really annoying to wait to connect and almost join only to be kicked because of reserve.

Jago could be right on this, if the power coming in to your system is surging or browning out then your PSU will throw a shit fit. Speedfan won't show anything different in this case, but if you want to look anyway it shows the voltages on the bottom of the window on the default screen.

Does it ever hang when you are doing something particularly stressful? The PS could be crapping out and not providing the power when its needed. You could also download Speedfan and check if the voltages ever drop severely (several points out of spec) at any time. Outside of getting a tester and testing it, those are really the only ways.

Also, Turbine gets really really old after about 1 round.

Steel is fun, but its nearly impossible to navigate until after you play a few rounds and get an idea of where everything is.

Could be a power supply issue too, i had a brand new box a while back that would hang about 5 minutes in after boot, and it was only because the power supply wasn't giving it enough juice. Also, you use 64 bit XP don't you? Could be a driver issue.

I posted this in your other thread, but the temp sensors for the 45nm Duos and Quads report almost 20c over what the temp actually is. Every monitoring program you can use will report this wrong temperature. So i am 99% sure its not heat, unless your heatsink isn't applied correctly, in which case it most likely wouldn't run to begin with. Run memtest like phill said, that sounds like bad memory.

Hard drive branding does not work this way. Most major suppliers have nearly the same amounts of failures, simply because hard drives are mechanical and they are much more likely to fail than any other computer part because of this. In other words, its not an if, its a when. Especially if you carry it around and chunk it everywhere.

So it turns out that the reason the HD4850 and HD4870 run in the high 80s at idle is because the PowerPlay downclocking function that was introduced in the HD3xxx series has been moved from a 64kb BIOS to a 128kb BIOS due to GDDR5. The current BIOS has issues with this, and so do the drivers. As a result, the cards run needlessly high clock speeds and voltages during idle (500 core, 750 mem) so they get really hot. Hopefully ATI will get off their asses soon and fix this.

Overheating, or your power supply is going. Check for dust first.

Its really not that hot of a card guys, the reason it gets that hot is because the fan speed control is goofed.

About 3 or 4 times faster, to be precise.

Very well AFIK. They'd better be, for how much they cost. I will tell you this though, the screens on the regular Macbooks are known to be awful.
