  1. I've only played most of those because my friend owns some of those classics compliations and we throw down on some Joust or stuff like that. Sometimes they remix the sound, it's tough! Hahaha, I never owned an Atari.
  2. Test your aural skills with these classic gaming sounds: http://www.pbs.org/kcts/videogamerevolution/arcade/name/index_flash.html I got 16/18 but I guessed a bunch
  3. I'm sorry? What makes you say that? EDIT: You sound bitter, man, really bitter.
  4. Wellp, if I HAD $3000 to blow, I WOULD hire some eastern european orchestra for cheap.
  5. I own and purchased my own copies of Windows XP and XP64--I am a beacon on a hill!
  6. You can't get too picky on a site that doesn't even use the term "remix" properly.
  7. I'm on a mod project where I have to revision the music for Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. Here's a taste: http://www.dannthr.com/samples/sketches/doc/doc_title_a.mp3
  8. My philosophy behind building audio computers: I like CPUs that run on 65watts. They're quiet and easier to cool. My cases have at most two 120mm fans mounted on rubber gromets, they're whisper quiet. If you're building a sample machine/slave then you want to focus on fast hard drives and lots of RAM. If you're building a master computer for recording and stuff, you want good CPU power and reliable storage. Cheers,
  9. Argle's suggestion is actually vital! No one is a metronome and honestly, players typically speed through parts they've mastered and slow through parts they have difficulty with. They also have the general tendency of accellerating the tempo through the piece if they don't have a conductor. The first step in creating a realistically human performance is to consider your virtual/imaginary player as a real human with a performance personality and ticks.
  10. I just layer raw waves with severe pitch bends--I do it in sound forge. I've created tons of lasers for sfx for games and stuff. Most of that air is EQ and verb
  11. Have to chime in here. A new company called Sample Modelling is releasing a vi called THE TRUMPET http://www.samplemodeling.com/en/products.php Personally, I don't like Wallander Instruments, but the combination of samples and modelling is, in my opinion, just right for where this industry should be heading. Watch the video. Seriously, these guys are the BAD ASSES of the sampling world. Nils Liberg is probably one of the best Kontakt scripters in the world.
  12. It won't take years to create an expert performance with LPC. Everyone has their own priorities and values when it comes to spending money. By the same token, everyone here could take years to get involved in a symphony orchestra and earn the right to become a resident composer and then have original works of theirs performed by actual orchestral instruments instead of buying sample libraries. Really, it goes without saying.
  13. It's too late, actually, he stopped looking like... a day or so after I posted this. Dhsu, your work would've been fantastic.
  14. They do, I wouldn't get the distorted model, I'd get clean and use Guitar Rig like a champ.
  15. It should also be noted that Prominy LPC is one MONSTER of a sample library. I would say aside from its little multi instruments, which are giant keyswitches, it's an EXPERT level library and VERY intimidating.
  16. If you want to LEARN how to do something mixing wise, then you need to EMULATE first. Take a song you admire, not by a peer, but by a pro, and mimic it perfectly. Make your equipment sound like a pros. You'll learn tons about how your equipment works and you'll also understand more about how a pro achieves his/her sound.
  17. Kontakt, no contest. There is nothing made for Gigastudio that can't be converted to Kontakt and there are tons of stuff for Kontakt that can't translate to giga because of the advanced scripting. One of those little gems is LPC's own Multi instruments, which were advertised in their live video, this multi instrument is only available in Kontakt format. Cheers,
  18. I guess "GOOD" is a subjective term. His music SOUNDS like half hour to an hour jobs. I've been in and out of the electronica world, I've spent an hour on an 8 minute track and I've spent 6 hours on half a minute. When I'm specific and detailed, it takes longer. Arranging for a full orchestra takes that much longer, programming realistic performances also takes longer. What this guy does SHOULDN'T take long.
  19. Hey guys, If you've got some skill at the piano, you'll want to check this out: http://vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8664 Nick Phoenix, one of the main men behind the Quantum Leap sample series and owner of Two Steps from Hell production company is looking for non-quantized classical piano MIDI files. If you or your friends have some classical piano skills, this is your chance to, I imagine, be credited with creating demos for QL Pianos. Just spreading the word for my fellow OCRemixers. Cheers,
  20. Actually, you can buy EthnoWorld 4's Plucked Sring instruments separately. http://www.soundsondemand.com/ Also you can get the Galaxy II grand pianos ala carte there as well.
  21. Honestly, RA is much better than simply ethnic instruments. The library has a survey of instruments from all over the world and while its focus is on unusual instruments, I've probably used it more in Mideival tracks than in random african or south american tracks. It has some really nice frame drums, ala Patric Doyle's Henry V OST which are great for those brooding military marches and it has some really decent plucked instruments from all over the world including america (steel string washburn). Of course, it's Duduks and Shakuhachis are highlights.
  22. Seriously, SO is my base orchestra too. I suppliment with West Gate Studios often. I keep thinking of getting some of the VSL stuff, but I don't want a VI vst and audiomidimall is the only place I could find that sells the old horizon series--except they sell it all at like... old prices It's really like traveling back in time. I don't know if you saw or not, but Doug announced that they will soon be working on a new chamber strings library.
  23. There's no release date set for the PLAY version of Symphonic Orchestra, so it shouldn't even be on your radar with EW's history of releasing products. The complete bundle is pretty sick, ain't it, Zircon?
  24. If you already own Kontakt, it does that, by the way--it's just a deep and complex piece of software that does A LOT.
