Chaning tempo is relatively easy, and it's very easy even to have a varying tempo, you could even hook it up to an LFO if you so chose, time signatures are trickier, but I think you can just change the beats per bar as you need to, do the first part in the time signature you want then switch it (I don't think it affects things you've already recorded, but I could be wrong) You could then just continue recording and switch it as you record in different signatures. I think it would work, I'll check when I have a chance.

CMC - Conceptual Music Competition 19: Haunted House
Zephyr replied to Abadoss's topic in Competitions
I'm gonna be in on this one, but my submission will more than likely be riding the deadline. -
What program do you guys use to remix?
Zephyr replied to newkeithmoon's topic in Music Composition & Production
True, especially for those of us who use FL studio (myself included), even with the producer edition, it only takes one sample library or decent synth before our accessories are worth more than the DAW itself. -
Questions about piano recording.
Zephyr replied to UnofficialSoundtrack's topic in Music Composition & Production
Is there a chance that you could rent/borrow/buy then return a microphone (there, abreviations solved), I know this is unlikely but it could save you the money of buying it then realizing it's no good. Maybe you could get one from somewhere, then send in the quality demo and see if it's worth your money. -
I'm looking for an old album art cover that someone made a while back, I searched for it, but couldn't find it, it's got the main logo (headphones and snes controller) and in the background has some ocr skinned tetris pieces. Anyone know where i could find it?

Good news, I just found it, but in FL 8, hit caps lock and you can resize from the left aswell.

I almost entirely disagree with max, and mostly agree with Nutritious, what follows is my personal conventions and advice, do what works for you... Watch lots of tutorial videos and fool around a ton, getting comfortable with how to do things in the program will help things come easier later. If you like to do everything in one pattern go for it, but i think that just makes almost everything more complicated. I like to use the playlist for arranging things and makes automation and repeating much easier. I also highly recommend the competitions and I'll add the CMC to the list, it's for composing original songs according to a theme. It helps me a lot because I had trouble remixing songs straight from the start and found composing new ones easier. It also gives you about a month to complete it if you find yourself needing more than a week. There's also the FLMC, but I'm not personally such a fan of that one, it also gives a month. Keep trying and try not to get frustrated with anything.

I use Synth1 all the time aswell, I just wish they would add a tiny bit more FM support, maybe 1 more oscillator and possibly an adsr mod envelope. Oh, and maybe the choice to have the LFO's affect Osc1, Osc2, or both. But I suppose that would defeat the purpose of having a simple synth. Crystal is good too, for more complicated synths, but I prefer Synth1. Both are good, both are free, take your pick (or use both). -

So when is it due anyways, I'm having some unexpected trouble with mine... -
It just burnt my eyes out, but it's a decent chart, it would be nice if it went into detail about which features every program had in terms of very specific areas (automation, audio clips, effects, mixing setup, etc.).
-
Rozovian had the idea of making a big comparison chart not only showing features within one program, but amongst many, this would mainly be to help cut down on beginners asking us the same question about all of them every day. I'm not sure if this will go anywhere, but I think it might be worth the effort overall. We'd need to decide what criteria they'd be compared on, which programs to compare, and how we'd incorporate different versions. We'd also need people with experience from each program to let us know if it can deliver on certain criteria or not. Post your thoughts here.
-
That's a good idea, it would save us a lot of time dealing with beginners, the problem though is being able to compare different versions of each individual product, would people want to compare fruity loops 7 with logic pro, or logic express, Reason 3, or Reason 4, would they want Fruity express? Or Producer? Maybe we could just do a general capability chart for each main program. In fact, I'ma go make a thread about it. Join me there if you wish...

@EternalWrath; On the piano roll either use the selection tool to select a bunch of notes or use control with the pencil tool, then you can move/edit all of those notes at once. As for individual channel editing, each channel has it's own volume and panning knob, aswell as individual note velocity/panning markers on the piano roll aswell. As for tempo changed in songs, the tempo in FL studio is fully automatable so it is pretty easy to have tempo changes, it's relatively difficult to work with time signatures in FL Studio, and I'm not sure how you would be able to change time signatures in it. As for producing equal results, music is music and you can create the same thing on both, but according to your work style and resources it could be significantly easier/more difficult on one program or the other. Both are very different and you would need to pick out one that works best for you. From what I can tell (I've only used FL Studio) Logic would be better suited for live recordings, while in FL studio everything is always easy to go back and edit.

Backing Tracks: MIDI & General Questions
Zephyr replied to Jovix's topic in Music Composition & Production
Here's my suggestion to you, get the demo version of a sequencer, fruity loops for example, open it up and put in the midi. Put in the sounds you want for the midi then export it to mp3 form. You now have mp3's that can be played through your laptop instead of keyboard and you can choose any sounds or midi's that you want. -
How can I open .Wav files in Reason?
Zephyr replied to xSane's topic in Music Composition & Production
What kind of DAW doesn't load WAV's? I find that kind of odd. -
Backing Tracks: MIDI & General Questions
Zephyr replied to Jovix's topic in Music Composition & Production
Smaller Midi keyboard and laptop? I'm kind of confused, is he playing the midi's on the keyboard by hand? Or is he just running pre-recorded midi's through his keyboards soundbanks and speakers? If he's playing and/or recording them himself maybe he should just record them through midi onto a laptop or computer. -

I'll finally be around for one again. I'm in, I've already got a start on one. -
fl studio versions...which one should I get?
Zephyr replied to 1337 1's topic in Music Composition & Production
And if you decide to buy FL or any of the Image Line products I can get you a 10% off discount with the promo link in my sig, good luck! And by the way, you can buy any version of FL via online download, it sounded as though you were confused about that. Which version you getreally depends on what you need, but since there's a rather minimal price difference I'd recommend just getting producer as you may regret not getting a higher version if you get express or fruity. I wouldn't recommend XXL either because it has a lot of excessive features which you don't really need, but check the comparison chart on the website and decide for yourself. -
CRAZY East West Deal! Buy 1 Get 1 Free!
Zephyr replied to big giant circles's topic in Music Composition & Production
How do the EWQLSO bundles work with your DAW? Do they come with any sort of VST or is it just samples and I'd need to purchase a sampler like Kontakt? What's the cheapest way to use these samples fairly easily? Edit: Never mind, found it on the site that it comes with Kompakt, I'll replace my question with one about that, what can kompakt do? Or is it just a basic sampler? For a point of reference how does it stack up against Direct Wave? Oh, and what would happen if you bought an expansion EWQLSO without the original? Thanks. -
EQuing using Fruity Loops 7
Zephyr replied to DJ Black {OP}'s topic in Music Composition & Production
I mainly use EQ2, EQUO is mainly for morphing like everyone's said. Most of the time I use the 3 band EQ on each track to get the sound tuned how I want it (as well as cut some freq. so as to reduce muddiness) but after they're sent to the master I tend to run EQ2 then a multiband compressor, I'm not sure if this is the best order to do it in, but I always did it this way so that the limiter from the compressor would be last and prevent clipping, but now that there's the Fruity limiter effect should I still be doing it in this order? Or should I compress first? -

Questions about sound pressure and sampling rate...
Zephyr replied to Caravaggio's topic in Music Composition & Production
A little panning and stereo can go a long way in clearing this up just a bit, but EQ will probably be more important. -
I think it's a good skill to have as a mixer, you can be a lot more independent, while you may not be able to master like a master if you even learn how to do a basic job it can really help.
-
Couldn't you just put an edison into the mixer track of the Cello then set it to record on "Input" and set a noise threshold then let the song run through and save it through edison when you're done? Let me know if there's a problem with this, but I figure it should work, you might as well solo it too though to save on CPU, if you have the threshold set right then you shouldn't have any useless empty space in the wave either. (If you're song has more than 5 minutes of Cello make sure to change the max recording time)

In FL Studio make sure you have Tools>Macros>smart disable for all, checked off, it should help, also if it's vsti's you're having trouble with try sampling the parts you're using them for and then saving just the midi for reference, then you don't even need that VSTi there.
