If you're gonna be a few hours late or something, ask Doulifee for an extension, with so few entries so far I'm sure he'd allow it.

Wow, I really like what you guys have done with this, I see parts of my melody that I hadn't even noticed before.

Hail Sixto up for that one, or perhaps if it was in the processing portion, zircon would know. -
CMC - Conceptual Music Competition 20: The Urban Streets
Zephyr replied to Abadoss's topic in Competitions
Allright, sounds good. Thanks for keeping us in the know. -
Don't base anything around me as I'm an amateur remixer who'll probably only come every once in a while, but sundays will be good for me a little less than 50% of the time.

Is there any definitive way to learn when one will be ahead of time?

I noticed this competition a little while ago (the one hour remixing competition), and have been interested in entering, however it's hard to find anywhere that has information on it, I decided that I wanted to enter today, and have been refreshing the OHC thasauce page, I thought it was supposed to start an hour ago, but I waited until now and it still hasn't shown up. Are my timezone calculations completely off, or is there something else I'm missing? Also, I think there should be topics in this forum for it so everything isn't quite so hard for people to find. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Doesn't that somewhat defeat the purpose?

Ya, if it's a commercial game then it's definitely not legal. But like RD just said, there are remixers who could make a soundtrack for you.

Reserve Tank: VARIAtions (Need Mirror Infos)
Zephyr replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
What kind of font should I use, and are there any changes I should make? The Super Metroid font would be a little tricky to copy, but I might be able to manage it (I'm not crazy good with photoshop) -

Whipped up a quick sprite scene for the front cover if you guys like it, let me know what you think and what it should be called if we'll be using this. I'm also working on a back cover. Edit: Back cover draft is done -
How Can I Include ReMixing, With my Passion For Computers
Zephyr replied to Halt's topic in Music Composition & Production
I'm just like you on this one, I love music but I get over-musicked (musiced?) very easily. -
Need a very easy help from anyone

[Help] Cant seem to get a good mix going.

It would just further complicate everything since you have no idea how to do anything even without a keyboard. You need to learn the basic FL Studio workflow, if you don't understand that and you try to move on, things will only get continually more complicated. Load up the demo projects and take a look at those for a few hours, they should let you see how to use patterns and perhaps learn something about it. Firstly, if you don't know how to read notes, or compose, do you have any interest in music at all? Have you done anything musical in the past? If not, maybe music isn't your thing, and even if it is, I wouldn't suggest starting remixing/composing as your first venture into music. Also, FL Studio automatically loops songs and patterns forever, but not on a final render/mp3 so don't worry about it looping because it won't on the final one unless you want it to. PLEASE look up some basic tutorials on youtube or something and try to learn at least a little bit about the interface. -
Does your keyboard has zones on it, (check the manual if you aren't sure) if it does, then make sure only 1 zone is active at a time or it will send a midi note from each zone, resulting in more than 1 set of midi notes. If you get more than one set again, then just disable all other zones than zone 1. Hope that helps!

I'd see if you're actually interested in remixing before blowing any cash in a soundcard or even headphones, personally I'm using a stock soundcard and some crappy consumer phones and I haven't minded one bit, I'm not yet at the skill level where it makes any difference yet, so if you're just starting I would worry about getting started and getting a DAW a lot more than headphones and such, you can buy those later.

Well, if the threshold goes down, the amount of signal being affected is increased, so if you have a large ratio, then the volume will reduce with the threshold, similar to how it is with the gain method. Using the threshold way could end up almost exactly the same, but you'd have more options if you wanted to do something different. You could get different effects by changing ratio, knee, and the compression envelope. For basic sidechaining, you might as well just use the gain version though, it's simpler.

Whoah, who hijacked Doulifée's grammerz?

Outside of the money I paid for FL Studio and my midi keyboard I've been going completely on freeware so far, it's amazing how many freeware VST's there are if you take the time to look. lol, I love how finding notes on a staff is the final lesson on that site.

Beyerdynamic 770pro - yea or nay?
Zephyr replied to PrototypeRaptor's topic in Music Composition & Production
It really depends what you want (if you actually want a good digital piano, or just a midi controller) but I can personally recommend the yamaha ypg-625 or the DGX-620. I've played a lot on one of them, I can't tell which model I've used because as far as I can tell from the site they're identical. They have a good feature set, good sounds and good action, I believe they also have USB midi support and you can pick one up for less than 1000$ if you look around a bit. There's my recommendation. -
... OH YEAH! I TOTALLY CHALLENGE YOUR SIDE SIG TO A SIDE SIG BATTLE! (CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL= false) Even though I personally support yours, I have the people behind me in this venture! You stand no chance mere mortal! (Please ignore this blatant topic commandeering.) Bonus Entry; what the midi sounds like when properly rendered with real sounds and such: (not an entry though) Driven On, non midi version

I'm genuinely very surprised that you didn't do better Alex, I liked it a lot actually... I guess sometimes you just get unlucky. -
Prayers for bLiNd (UPDATE: He's home)
Zephyr replied to Jillian Aversa's topic in General Discussion
I've known people diagnosed to have a few months to live and have had a full recovery that no doctor could explain, through prayer. There's always hope. I'll be praying for you bLiNd! -
Do you know of a link to that anywhere kirby? (Or could you host it somehow) I'd be interested in getting that.

A decent recommendation for a beginner. Something I would probably NEVER suggest to a beginner, like... ever... (sorry max) Seriously though, the first thing to do if you're interested, decide what you actually want to be able to do, then try out demos for a few DAWs (digital audio workstations, the program where all the music making is done) if you're still interested after that, then think about buying one, you'll want to buy the one that you understand the most and like the most after fiddling.
