  1. I think that's just a standard glitch of using mp3s try the razorlame thing though.
  2. While that's true, you really only need to get it once, as it doesn't expire. It's not that kind of demo, it comes with the entire program except for the ability to save, so there's no reason not to try it out at least.
  3. Interesting idea, though I'm not sure where you could go with it. I've seen people use wii remotes to not only input midi, but also tweak midi parameters and such (via bluetooth) so it can definitely be done.
  4. Hey guys, Zephyr here, sorry I can't make it for this one, I had a nice song going, but now I'm travelling and won't have time to finish it, I probably won't have the time to vote either. Good luck everyone!
  5. Yup, I can't listen to these things but there are a lot of things that can be automated to get almost unexplainable sounds, some things react oddly when automated in a certain way with others, then you get into options like pulsewidth, FM, ring, Sync, not to mention all of the filter options. Mod envelopes are your best friend, but they can be crazy evil when you're trying to get a certain sound. Oh, and just so you know, it's spelt: rhythm; looks funny, but that's just the way it is.
  6. Try to cut down on th frequencies used by each individual instrument, that allows for each instrument to have it's own "space" seriously though, you should need intense eq envelopes for the master channel. Compression can be equally as important as EQ, so don't forget about that.
  7. Definitely reasonable since all he would need to do is his the "export to mp3" button after loading up the appropriate demo song.
  8. It's quality conservation, and for the very same reason I plan to render mine in several hundred 1 second full quality wav clips. If anyone wants to listen to it, you can reconstruct it yourself. It helps with music appreciation if you put some time into it.Now wouldn't that be fun? I kid.
  9. Samplers are VSTi's, (or standalone, ) What it does is it takes samples that you give it, usually sample sets, and organizes them across the keyboard. Say you have guitar samples, you took a sample of playing C5, if you use that sample in a song and play all the way down to C3, it's gonna get pretty distorted trying to play that low, but if you took samples of C1, C2, C3, C4, etc. then you would have one sample for every octave and it would really cut down on distortion. Normally in most DAW's you can only have one sample active at a time, and even if you did activate them all it would play all of them every time you hit a key. A sampler takes the samples and spreads them across the keyboard according to their relative pitches. So that you can put in all of the samples, and have an instrument that will automatically stretch and pitch bend the right sample for the range you're playing in. Hope that clears it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampler_%28musical_instrument%29
  10. Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a free vst sampler, I'm looking for something along the lines of Direct Wave from FL studio, only it just needs to be able to load sample banks, (kind of like a soundfont, but I don't really want to make a soundfont for every sample set I use) Sorry if I'm not being specific enough, thanks for any help you can give.
  11. Is this still up for grabs? If it is, how do I get it? I don't read german so good...
  12. My keyboard lets me set min/max values, so you may be able to set the synth pitch bend to 12+/- then set the max value to what it needs to be for only 2+, that would probably make it so that moving it a milimeter would max it out, but if it works it would only be 2+. It might just end up centering the range, then you'd have something like 7+/-. Hope it works though.
  13. What exactly do you want done? If you just want it all thrown together into an mp3 with some slight mastering I could have a go at it for you.
  14. You know, I'd be curious to see what Rose would say if we put up audio of actual guitars and asked what she thought of them. Chances are decent that it would be hard to tell the difference in some ways. I'd also be interested in seeing some proof of the credentials that would be necessary to even take part in an argument like this, or maybe listen to this so called song that's on the radio.
  15. Nice job everyone, and thanks for the critique. I look forward to the next one! Any idea when it'll start? Or does it just start when the winner can get in a theme?
  16. Going a tad bit off topic I'm wondering if anyone knows of any half decent free guitar samples (or soundfonts), I need something to run through all these amps!
  17. Thanks, I really have no idea what I'm doing when I mess with the mp3 settings, I don't know what's standard here's what I have, let me know if I should change anything or tell me what these things do if you can: Depth; I have it at 16Bit int, but options are 32bit float (0.24) and 32bit (16. Bitrate; It's a slider, I have it at 128Kbit Sampler interpolation I have at 64 point sync, there's linear, 6 point hermite and a bunch more point syncs with different numbers, Looping mode; I have it at leaver remainder, there's also cut remainder and wrap remainder. If anyone can help me with these terms or tell me where to change it to 44.1khz then please help me out.
  18. I got my entry in yesterday, how long is the voting period?
  19. http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/cvzp/Zephyr_-Tread_-_Deep_Waters_CMC16 There's a link to the stream and download, compare the two and you'll see what I mean. Especially when the cymbals come in. Also, if anyone has any other hosting recommendations, I'd like some other options just in case this doesn't get figured out. Even if you don't notice that it's audibly slower, you should notice that the pitches are different, I'm assuming this is caused by it being slowed down.
  20. Hey guys, Zephyr here, I'm just wondering if any of you have experienced slowdown when stream a song, not slowdown in loading, but rather it actually slowing down the song when you stream it, I uploaded my first song to tindeck today and when I streamed it I was disgusted, it slowed down the entire song. If I download the song from there it works fine, but not if I stream it. Anyone know why this is? Is tindeck just really busy right now or something? Is this common and I've just never heard of it? Thanks for any help, I'd rather not have people listen to my music in this horribly distorted manor. Edit: Also give me a post if you have any recommendations for a hosting site.
  21. Another thing I've heard of is that if you want the song without vocals, try to get just the vocals on their own, then invert it's phasing and mix it with the song, poof! vocals gone.
  22. Another thing I'd recommend before starting (if you haven't done it already) is to take the time to really get to know your DAW, in this case FL Studio, set aside a time when you figure out and watch tutorials for the mixer, then the same for the sequencer, the playlist, the piano roll... etc. Then move on to other more specific things; eq effect, delay effect, piano roll velocities, layer channels, delay... etc. again. It'll help you know how to do certain things in a mix and make everything easier overall. Also (again, if you haven't already) familiarize yourself with some synths and musical terms, I'd recommend synth1 and crystal for free ones and words such as dry, wet, reverb, feedback, panning, gain, frequencies, etc. for the third time. For myself the best advice in getting started was to try some original songs first, the conceptual music competition is a good spot for that, originals are easier. Good luck.
  23. Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I was wondering what your opinions are of the sample fusion guitar samples, I haven't gotten around to trying them yet, but since I'm a beggining re-mixer I'm not quite hardcore enough to buy any of those sample sets, and some of the samplefusion ones are free for me.
  24. I wish there was a good guitar synth built in, Slayer (Fruity's default guitar) is downright dreadful, pretty much good for anything but guitar sounds, it does have it's uses, but it rarely works for an actual guitar riff.
  25. That's really odd, you could probably just use photobucket for the pictures, but I'm not sure about the web pages, what would they use other than FTP?
